Govt to kick off Budget 2026 consultation session on Aug 7, says Fahmi
The Communications Minister said that the consultation session will continue until the final draft of the national budget is completed, aiming to collect extensive input to ensure that Budget 2026 reflects the aspirations of both the people and the private sector.
"This consultation session is part of our effort to hear from multiple parties about their expectations and concerns regarding the content of Budget 2026," he said after delivering a keynote address at the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Nexus Forum (CNF25) on Tuesday (Aug 5).
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh was also present.
Fahmi explained that Budget 2026 will consider ongoing initiatives, existing policies, as well as current geopolitical conditions and economic challenges.
He stated that the budget will align with the priorities outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week.
One of the key focus areas of the budget, according to Fahmi, will be on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are vital to the national economy and play a major role in job creation.
"MSMEs are the lifeblood of our economy, contributing roughly 70% of employment for Malaysians. It's therefore essential that the government understands the issues they face," he said.
According to the Parliamentary Calendar, Budget 2026 is scheduled to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 10.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan previously mentioned that Budget 2026, in line with the 13MP, will be pragmatic and practical, aimed at sustaining national progress, strengthening the economy amid global uncertainty, and building a more equitable and just society. – Bernama

SEOUL: (Bernama-Yonhap) Google said Tuesday (Aug 5) it will blur sensitive sites on its map and satellite image services to address Seoul's national security concerns ahead of its decision this week on whether to allow the overseas transfer of high‑precision map data, Yonhap News Agency reported. In February, the US tech giant submitted an application to the state‑run National Geographic Information Institute (NGII), seeking approval for the transfer of 1:5,000‑scale map data to its data centres abroad. The proposal has sparked a heated debate due to concerns that the export of detailed map data could expose military bases and other sensitive facilities. South Korea remains technically at war with North Korea, as the Korean War ended in a truce, not a peace treaty. Google emphasised that the 1:5,000‑scale map data is a public "national base map," approved by the NGII and already used by most domestic mapping services in Korea. "To handle the millions of simultaneous requests from users worldwide, including those researching travel from outside Korea, Google must rely on its globally distributed data centres for smooth, real‑time processing," the company said. "This technological necessity is why we are applying for permission to run the 1:5,000‑scale national base map through our distributed data centres." Google previously made similar requests in 2007 and 2016, but both were rejected by the South Korean government due to security concerns. Malaysia studies UWO and monthly pension proposals for financial reform

Sultan Ibrahim arrives in Russia for maiden state visit
MOSCOW: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, arrived here on Tuesday (Aug 5) for a six-day state visit to Russia. The special aircraft carrying His Majesty touched down at the Vnukovo2 International Airport at 2.20pm (7.20pm Malaysian time). Sultan Ibrahim was received upon arrival by Russian Science and Higher Education Minister Valery Falkov and Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry State Protocol Department acting director Georgiy Kuznetsov. Present to welcome His Majesty at the airport were Russian Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Alexander Pankin and Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Nayl Latypov. Also present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, as the minister-in-attendance, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin and Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Datuk Cheong Loon Lai. The national anthems of both nations were played and His Majesty then walked past a guard-of-honour, accompanied by Falkov and Kuznetsov, before being greeted by dignitaries from both Malaysia and Russia. After observing the ceremonial march-out of the guard-of-honour, which signified the conclusion of the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim departed for his hotel in Moscow. At the hotel, His Majesty was greeted by the home-based staff of the Embassy of Malaysia and their family members, as well as 30 Malaysian students. During the visit, Sultan Ibrahim will be accorded a state welcome ceremony at the Kremlin before holding an official meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and attending a state banquet hosted by the President.
