Rangers' pursuit of Dor Turgeman ‘hits major snag' – due to Israel-Iran conflict

RANGERS' pursuit of Israeli striker Dor Turgeman has been dealt an additional complication due to the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, a report has claimed.
We told you last week how the Ibrox side remain very much in the hunt for £4m-rated striker.

But talks with Maccabi Tel Aviv appear to have hit an impasse - and a report in Israeli outlet Sport5 claims that's because the ongoing Israel and Iran troubles have caused Maccabi to rethink their transfer policy.
Due to the issues with attracting foreign players to their country, instead Champions League qualifying entrants have hiked up transfer values on their stars as they focus on keeping their top Israeli players at the club.
That includes Turgeman and Roy Revivo.
Revivo, Sport5 claimed, was close to joining Copenhagen, only for the Danes to end up shelving their interest in the player when the escalating transfer cost was deemed to be too prohibitive.
Incidentally, Tel Aviv are one of five teams who could face Celtic in a Champions League playoff clash this season.
And their efforts to establish and maintain a native core this summer include attempts to keep other key Israeli stars Idan Nahmias, Gabi Kanikovsky and Stan Lemkin.
The Ibrox side, meanwhile, are also preparing contract talks with top asset Nico Raskin.
New Ibrox boss Russell Martin wants to build his team around the Belgian midfield dynamo.
Raskin is approaching the final two years of his current deal — and a growing number of clubs are looking at him.
The Belgium international cost £1.75million when arriving from Standard Liege in January 2023 and his value is soaring.

Both sporting director Kevin Thelwell and the club's new US owners are determined to construct a far better transfer model.

Reports in Spain have credited the Ibrox side with an interest in Real Betis defender Nobel Mendy. Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are said to be keen to sign the 20-year-old Frenchman, but a deal is not close as things stand. Mendy, a 6ft 2in left-sided centre-back, joined Betis from Paris FC in 2023 but has featured mostly for the B team, making only five first-team appearances. He was set to join PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer before the move break down to the Dutch side using up their quota for foreign imports. Rangers could still face competition for Mendy though with Rayo Vallecano and Club Brugge also credited with an interest in the defender. The Light Blues have also been linked with a move for 23-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein. The 36-times capped Estonia international spent last season on loan at Real Valladolid and is also said to be on the radar of La Liga side Sevilla. Gunn, 29, who featured in every game for Scotland at Euro 2024, made 35 appearances for Norwich in the Sky Bet Championship last season and 172 in total during two spells at his hometown club. Forest said: 'Nottingham Forest is pleased to confirm the signing of Angus Gunn, who has signed a one-year-deal. Everyone at the club warmly welcomes Angus to the Forest family.' The report states: "The Slovakian defender, on the other hand, is wanted by Celtic, but even the champions of the last Scottish Premier League failed to reach the right figures to reach an agreement. A raise will be necessary to see them leave." The 21-year-old midfielder, who can also deputise in defence, has 11 caps for the Zambia national team. He has played in the Champions League with the Swiss club, featuring as a substitute against Celtic last season, but looks set to leave after being left out of the matchday squads for his club's opening two league fixtures. According to Hibs Observer, Hibs have entered negotiations with Young Boys over a move for Chaiwa, with French side Montpellier also credited with an interest. Hearts finally land Kabore Derek McInnes is confident Pierre Landry Kabore can build on his prolific stint in Estonia after the Burkina Faso forward was finally able to complete his transfer to Hearts on a three-year contract. The 24-year-old arrived in Edinburgh last month after the Jambos agreed a deal to sign him for an undisclosed fee, but he had to endure a longer wait than envisaged to get his work permit and was unable to feature in Monday's William Hill Premiership opener against Aberdeen. 'But I've got a bit more balance about things like that at the moment even though they really hurt at the time. 'I had to be a big boy and make sure it didn't ruin my summer and it helps that I've developed a good work-life balance. 'I've got children who are all happy and healthy, so you just keep plugging away, sticking at it, giving it your best shot.' And that will mean turning pain into gain at the CBS Arena after the agonising near-miss. 'It was turning into a special story - we were one step away from Wembley and playing really well, particularly in those playoff games,' he added. 'It ultimately came down to small details - chances you don't convert and a header that comes off a shoulder and goes in. 'There was deep disappointment but you get over that because it's football and you have no choice but to start again. 'I spoke to lot of people over the summer. I met Coventry fans and neutrals and they all told me how well we'd done. 'That made me feel proud but my job is to understand that the hard work starts again.' Lampard added: 'We'd made all these strides and then when you miss out, you feel as manager of a club that you have a big responsibility in it. 'I still had a relatively good summer because I was with my family and had a break. 'But there were things, I was thinking all the time. I'm just thinking how can we do better and how can we try and start the season better. 'I can't wait to get back to the competitive games. I'm raring to go.'

Alan Shearer names two stars Newcastle MUST sign after Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko blows
Newcastle United have missed out on a host of transfer targets this summer and their former striker Alan Shearer has offered up advice as the new season looms large Alan Shearer believes Newcastle United should respond to missing out on Benjamin Sesko by signing not one but two forwards. The Magpies could end the summer losing last season's top scorer Alexander Isak and failing to land potential replacements including Sesko, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ektiike. Newcastle had a bid accepted for Slovenia striker Sesko, but he is poised to choose Manchester United instead. Isak could yet remain at St James' Park amid interest from Liverpool, but isn't back in Eddie Howe's good books just yet. Now, Shearer believes now is the time for manager Howe to step up his pursuit of Ollie Watkins and long-time target Yoane Wissa. Brentford star Wissa has returned to training, just like Isak, but could similarly find himself getting a move before August is up. "The Wissa situation sounds very similar to the Isak situation where they're both pushing for a move to get what they want," Shearer told Betfair. "Ollie Watkins has been heavily linked with other clubs - Man United being one of them. Whether a deal between Newcastle and Aston Villa could be done, I don't know. "I am an admirer of Ollie, but I suspect the Aston Villa fans and the manager won't appreciate me and other people talking about their centre-forward going to different clubs." Indeed, Watkins' Villa are due to play Newcastle on the opening weekend of the season, and the England striker scored in the opening minute when the two teams last met. Newcastle qualified for the Champions League after a fifth place finish last term, but the teams above them have all strengthened. Howe's side have been relatively quiet in the window so far, though, and Shearer recognises this could end up harming them. "It's a merry-go-round at the minute," he continued. "When you look at the chasing pack, with the business and astronomical fees that have been paid out by the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, when you look at the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton and others, that's how difficult it's going to be to break into the top four. This merry-go-round will continue until the end of the window." Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale have already completed moves to Newcastle this summer, bringing Premier League experience. And, while Sesko may have a higher ceiling than other targets, a league-ready option could end up suiting Howe. "If Newcastle were to get Yoane Wissa and Ollie Watkins, I think that would be two really good signings but I don't think Aston Villa and Brentford fans would appreciate me talking about their players like we are," Shearer added. "If those deals could be done, it'd be a huge plus for Newcastle and they need it. Even if Isak stays, they still need another centre-forward because they've lost Callum Wilson. "I've seen Sesko in the Champions League and I know he's very young but he is raw. There's definitely talent there but he's in no way the finished article and will have to improve a lot. I'd say the same if he came to Newcastle. Whereas Wissa and Watkins know the Premier League and are proven in the Premier League."
