66 Bangladeshi immigrants arrested in North West Delhi
The Delhi Police said they arrested 66 Bangladeshi nationals, including 11 families, during a planned combing operation conducted last Friday in the Wazirpur JJ Colony and New Subzi Mandi areas.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Foreigner Cell of the North West District Police initiated a special drive to identify unauthorised foreign nationals living in informal settlements. According to officers, the arrested people recently relocated from the Nuh district of Haryana, where they were previously employed as labourers at brick kilns in the Tain village.
'These families…had relocated to Delhi following intensified enforcement actions against illegal immigrants by the police, as well as widespread media coverage of such operations. In an effort to avoid detection, they chose to settle in densely populated and informal localities lacking proper documentation, making it challenging for authorities to trace them,' said Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West).
The police said that to evade identification, the migrants split into smaller groups, and lived in Wazirpur and New Subzi Mandi.
'In response, two specialised teams undertook extensive field verification operations, including door-to-door checks, street patrols, and interviews with local shopkeepers and street vendors. Special attention was paid to local Tirana store owners and fruit vendors to identify suspicious purchasing patterns, particularly those indicating the presence of families with children, such as repeated purchases of milk and other child-related supplies,' said DCP Singh.
'The proactive and intelligence-driven operation was aimed at not only apprehending those attempting to flee but also deterring the illegal movement of foreign nationals in the region. The drive remains ongoing with further verification and legal action under process,' he added.
As many as 35 people were apprehended from Wazirpur JJ Colony, and 31 from the New Subzi Mandi area, making up 66 illegal Bangladeshi nationals. Among those detained were 20 men, 16 women, and 30 children. The individuals had allegedly concealed their mobile phones and any Bangladeshi identification documents to avoid being tracked, said the police.

Three Bangladeshis who escaped from Jharkhand detention camp arrested: Police
Three Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, who escaped from Hazaribagh's Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail on Monday morning were arrested within 15 hours from various locations in Jharkhand and West Bengal, said police. The escape was reported at around 7 AM on June 9. The detainees were identified as Rina Khan alias Fina Devi (29) from Dhaka, Nipah Akhtar Khushi (24) from Chattogram, and Mohammad Nazmul Gang (22) from Bagerhat district The police said they escaped the detention ward by removing the barbed wire from the jail's boundary wall. All three had been held at the detention ward of the Central Jail under charges related to illegal entry and use of forged documents. A statement issued by the police said Rina Khan was transferred to the Hazaribagh Detention Centre from Jamtara Jail on February 4, 2022. Nipah Akhtar Khushi was shifted on September 28, 2024 and Gang was brought to the centre on March 1, 2025. Speaking to The Indian Express, Jail Superintendent Jitendra Kumar said that a case has been registered in connection with the escape. An internal inquiry is being conducted to examine the breach in jail security. A Special Investigation Team was formed to search for the detainees, and based on surveillance and location data, teams were sent to Tisri in Giridih and Mihijam in Jamtara.
