Bills superstar sensationally drops out of game after warming up with team amid a contract dispute

Daily Mail4 days ago
Amidst a contract dispute with his team, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook showed up for work - but didn't take part.
Cook took to the field on Saturday for pregame warmups - in full uniform - seemingly ready to compete in a preseason game against the New York Giants.
But after taking part in 11-on-11 drills in the warmups, Cook came out without his helmet on and did not take a single snap of action.
Bills coach Sean McDermott admitted that he wanted Cook to take part in the game, but the rusher didn't relent - wearing a beanie on his head throughout the contest.
Cook - who is in the final year of his rookie deal - is trying to agree to a contract extension with the Bills and has taken drastic measures.
This includes Saturday's demonstration - but he's also passed on participating in the last four practices in the previous six days.
After the game, McDermott told reporters that he spoke to Cook on Friday and described it as 'a good conversation'. In that discussion, Cook agreed to warm-up with the team before the game but to not play.
'We wanted him to play. I wanted him to play, but I don't really want to go into it any further,' McDermott said.
'There is really no change at this point in time from what it was going into this weekend and the game today, so he warmed up, like I said, but at this point, due to the situation and position he's in, he was not willing to play, so that's where we're at. Again, it was a good conversation, but really no change overall.'
While Cook didn't comment to ESPN, the rusher's agent - Zac Hiller - told the outlet, 'I don't know what else he can do to show he only wants to play for the Bills. Hopefully we can figure this out and refocus all energy on bringing a Super Bowl to Buffalo.'
Last season, Cook put up some of the best numbers in his career. His 1,009 yards on 207 carries included a career-best 16 touchdown rushes.
With the exception of quarterback Josh Allen and a few others dealing with injuries, a majority of the Bills' starters participated in the preseason defeat in some capacity.
As a result, the Bills fell to the Giants after quarterbacks Jaxson Dart, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito all completed touchdown passes to beat Buffalo 34-25.

Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. says future wife 'has to be able to cook or something'

In economic terms, Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. simply prioritizes non-market labor over earnings potential. Or, as the 27-year-old put it on the ' One Night with Steiny ' podcast, he'd rather have a domestic wife that brings 'something to the table.' 'I don't mind providing for you, I don't mind doing that,' said Porter, who has $115 million in career earnings. 'You can stay at the crib, you can do your thing. You gotta bring something to the table. 'Positivity, you gotta help me mentally, you gotta be able to cook or something,' he continued. 'You gotta bring something to the table… look, what value are you bringing to my life? That's the way I look at it now.' Pointing to his own mother, who homeschooled Porter and his seven siblings, the former NBA champion doubled down on his statement. 'In a wifey, I don't mind if she's a stay-at-home mom,' he said. 'My mom was a stay-at-home mom but she raised all eight of us kids, she homeschooled us, she cooked for us when my dad was out working, she raised us. 'You gotta be able to do something. These girls nowadays it's like they just want to live like queens and do absolutely nothing.' Porter's love life isn't exactly an open book. As a teenager he dated actress Madison Petit in 2016 and 2017 as well as influencer Kelsey Calemine sometime after that, according to multiple reports. The former Missouri star was traded along with a future first-round pick from the Denver Nuggets to the Nets last month, Porter had played six seasons with the Nuggets, winning an NBA title in 2022-23. Porter has two years and $79 million remaining on his current deal. His family has faced several recent controversies. In April of 2024, for instance, his younger brother Cuban was sentenced to six years in prison for killing a woman while driving drunk. Another brother, Jevon, was also arrested on suspicion of DWI that same month. Porter's younger brother Jontay also reached the NBA, only to be given a lifetime suspension by the league over gambling allegations. 'Obviously, my brother went through his situation,' Porter said on the podcast before referencing some other gambling scandals around the league. 'Malik Beasley's going through a situation right now. Terry Rozier was in some hot water.

Bristol Bears sign Louis Rees-Zammit on return to rugby union

Bristol Bears have signed Wales winger Louis Rees-Zammit for the 2026-26 Prem Rugby Season, on his return to rugby union after 18 months pursuing a career in American football. The 24-year-old, who left the sport in January 2024, announced in August that he would be returning, following a failed attempt to break into the NFL. Rees-Zammit was on the training squads of the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars, but never played in a regular-season game. Capped 32 times by Wales, Rees-Zammit spent six years at Bristol's local rivals Gloucester before joining the NFL's International Player Pathway. Director of Rugby, Pat Lam, said Bristol Bears are "thrilled" to welcome Rees-Zammit back to rugby union. 'Louis is a world-class player," he said. 'He has the drive and ambition to be one of the best back-three players in the world, and his goals align perfectly with our ambitions as a club. 'At just 24 years old, we know the athlete and competitor he is. The way we play and the way he wants to play fit seamlessly together, and we're looking forward to working with him when he joins the group tomorrow.' Rees-Zammit said: 'Bristol Bears was the obvious choice for me. The style of rugby the team play – all about entertaining the fans and growing the game – perfectly aligns to how I want to play and how I express myself on and off the field. 'I want to get fans out of their seats, create exciting moments and help people fall in the love with the game." He'll join up with the Bristol squad on Saturday 16 August, with their Prem season starting on 28 September against Leicester.

Louis Rees-Zammit joins Bristol as he returns to rugby

Louis Rees-Zammit has sealed his return to rugby from American football after signing for Bristol Bears. The 24-year-old, who has been capped 32 times by Wales, announced in January 2024 that he was quitting rugby to join the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. He signed first for the Kansas City Chiefs and then the Jacksonville Jaguars but he failed to make a breakthrough with either and has opted to return to his roots. Rees-Zammit said on the club website: 'Bristol Bears was the obvious choice for me. 'I want to get fans out of their seats, create exciting moments and help people fall in the love with the game. I'm excited to return to rugby at a club that demands those values.' The exciting winger formerly scored 42 tries in 77 appearances for Gloucester, while his try tally in a Wales shirt stands at 14. Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam said: 'Louis is a world-class player and we're thrilled to welcome him back to rugby union and to the Bears this season. 'He has the drive and ambition to be one of the best back-three players in the world, and his goals align perfectly with our ambitions as a club. 'At just 24 years old, we know the athlete and competitor he is. The way we play and the way he wants to play fit seamlessly together, and we're looking forward to working with him when he joins the group tomorrow.' Bristol begin their season against Sale Sharks in the Premiership Rugby Cup on September 13.
