Sand stymies suspected car thieves trying to cross river into Zimbabwe
Spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said on Thursday morning police tried to stop the Toyota Cross SUV but the occupants sped off — only to get stuck in the sand.
'Two male suspects alighted from the vehicle and ran on foot into the border side of Zimbabwe to evade arrest.
'Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle belongs to a private company in South Africa but it was not yet reported stolen. It was impounded at the scene.'

Suspected robbers caught
Six suspects allegedly involved in a series of robberies in Ntoane and Moteti villages under the Dennilton policing area were nabbed last Thursday, and an unlicensed firearm as well as stolen properties were seized. According to the Limpopo Provincial Police, the recent robberies were committed on August 14. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, provincial police spokesperson, said suspects driving in a Toyota GD6 Club Cab allegedly robbed a shop of cash and cellphones in Ntoane Village. The crime prevention members, detectives and Sekhukhune District Tracking and Investigations Team netted the suspects. 'The described vehicle was spotted in Dennilton, and a chase ensued. Police intercepted the vehicle, and three male suspects were arrested. They were found in possession of a pellet gun. Police received another report of a robbery in Moteti Village. They spotted a suspicious white BMW driving at high speed, managed to stop and search it, and three other suspects were arrested. They were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm,' explained Ledwaba. Ledwaba stated that the six suspects were linked to three business robberies that occurred in June and July. He further indicated that they were also linked to a recent business robbery and house robbery that took place on August 14. 'One suspect was charged with contravention of the Immigration Act,' added Ledwaba. The suspects are expected to appear before the Dennilton Magistrate's Court today (Monday).

Woman murdered with axe: Boyfriend arrested in Limpopo
The Mankweng police in Limpopo arrested a man (40) in connection with the brutal murder of his girlfriend (32) at his home in Thakgalang village, Nobody, on Monday night. Polokwane Review reports that, according to Limpopo police, the woman's body was found lying in a pool of blood in the house. She had multiple stab wounds. 'The victim was certified dead at the scene by paramedics. An axe, believed to have been used in the commission of the crime, was recovered,' says Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba. He adds that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim before contacting her family. 'When the family arrived, they made the shocking discovery. The suspect later attempted suicide at home but failed and subsequently crashed his vehicle near Savannah Mall in Polokwane. He was taken to hospital under police guard. He has since been charged with murder and will soon appear in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court,' Ledwaba says. Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and calls on communities to speak out and report abuse. Horrific case of gender-based violence: Limpopo man arrested for murder and rape
A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his partner and raping her teenage daughter. Police in Limpopo have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the gruesome killing of his partner and the rape of her 16-year-old daughter, in what authorities have described as a horrific case of gender-based violence. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the ordeal unfolded in the early hours of August 10, when the suspect allegedly woke the teenager around 2 am, claiming they needed to search for her mother at local taverns in Mundzedzi village. The 36-year-old woman had last been seen the previous evening at a local tavern. He added that while they were searching for the mother, the suspect allegedly raped the teenage girl. "After failing to locate the mother, the suspect led the minor toward Vleifontein bushes next to the local cemetery, where he allegedly raped her. The suspect then instructed the traumatised teenager to return home." The 16-year-old immediately alerted a community member about the raped incident, prompting them to contact police. A rape case was opened, and a swift manhunt led to the suspect's arrest. Ledwaba said that during questioning on August 11, investigators discovered the suspect had murdered the missing woman and hidden her body at a local school. "The body was retrieved with assistance from relevant stakeholders in a pit toilet at a local school, and the suspect now faces an additional charge of murder." Meanwhile, Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed deep outrage over the horrific incident, highlighting its tragic timing during Women's Month. "This act of horrible crime represents the worst of gender-based violence - a man who was supposed to protect this family instead became their worst nightmare. That he would murder a woman and then rape her teenage daughter shows the depths of depravity we are fighting against," she said. Hadebe praised the swift police response and lauded the bravery of the teenage survivor for coming forward to report the crime.
