A man was arrested after stealing a police car from a collision scene in Montreal's Plateau Mont-Royal borough Friday afternoon.
Police were called around 4:50 p.m. about a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist at the intersection of du Parc-La Fontaine Avenue and Roy Street.
A passerby managed to steal a cruiser as officers intervened and fled driving northbound, hitting several vehicles in his path.
A 28-year-old woman who was hit in her car suffered minor injuries to the face and was transported to hospital.
The stolen police car was later intercepted at the intersection of Papineau Avenue and Gilford Street after a police chase.
In total, two civilian vehicles and five police cars were damaged.
The driver, a 32-year-old man, was arrested for driving under the influence and was taken to a detention centre. Police say he is expected to face several other charges.
The cyclist was injured but his life is not in danger.
Two crime scenes have been set up both on du Parc-La Fontaine Avenue and on Gilford Street.
Editor's note: The SPVM previously stated that the man arrested was the driver of the vehicle that struck the cyclist. He is in fact a bystander who is not connected to the collision.

Toronto police are investigating after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in North York on Saturday June 14, 2025 (Jacob Estrin/CP24 photo). A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries late Saturday night following a collision in North York, officials say. In a post to social media, Toronto police say the crash, involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, happened at around 11:18 p.m. near Yorkland Road and Sheppard Avenue East. According to officials, the driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene, and no further injuries were reported. Road closures were in effect for several hours, including the Highway 404 off-ramp to westbound traffic on Sheppard Avenue East, but all lanes have since reopened. Police note the investigation is ongoing.

Regina homicide suspects transported from Edmonton to appear in court

(Hayatullah Amanat/CTV News) Two men accused in the May 30 death of Wahkia Ewalk, 22, were transported to Regina earlier this week to appear before a judge. Angus Fox, 32, and Herb Fox, 34, were transported from Edmonton to Regina for a pair of court appearances. Angus faces a first-degree murder charge in addition to unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded or restricted firearm. Herb faces one count of accessory after the fact to murder. Herb made his first court appearance on that charge on June 11, while Angus made his first appearance in Regina provincial court on June 12. The investigation into the killing began on May 30 – when Regina police officers responded at around 2 a.m. that morning to the area of Marshal Crescent in the Normanview neighbourhood. Ewalk's body was found at the scene. The Regina Police Service put out a call to residents, asking for surveillance footage of the area surrounding the crime scene. Five days later, on June 4, the two suspects were arrested during a traffic stop in Edmonton. A tactical team, plastic projectiles and a police dog were used in the arrest, according to the service. One of the suspects was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Ewalk's death marked Regina's fourth homicide of 2025.

Calgary police seek to identify sexual assault suspect
Calgary police are asking for the public's help to identify a man who is believed to be responsible for sexually assaulting a teenage girl onboard a CTrain. (CPS handouts) Calgary police are hoping to identify a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage passenger aboard a CTrain last week. It happened at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6. Investigators believe the suspect boarded a southbound CTrain at either the Erlton or 39 Avenue station and sat down next to the victim. 'Shortly after, he proceeded to touch her in a sexual manner without consent,' police said in a Friday news release. 'The victim shouted to alert other passengers about the incident, and the suspect exited the CTrain at Heritage Station.' The suspect is described as 40 to 50 years old and approximately 5'8' (173 cm) tall with short, salt-and-pepper facial hair. He was carrying a black backpack and wearing dark-coloured sunglasses, a dark blue hoodie with the hood covering a light-coloured baseball cap, black pants and dark-coloured shoes. Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
