Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich Reteam for Rom-Com "The Last Resort"
Star Wars vets Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich are starring in Donald Petrie's Philippines-set romantic comedy, "The Last Resort", which Asia Pacific Films is producing and financing.
Production begins in April. CAA Media Finance is handling worldwide distribution rights.
The script from Karen McCullah (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You) follows Brooke (Ridley), who is determined to prove herself worthy of running her father's hotel empire. She travels to the Philippines to scout a new resort location and meets Ben (Ehrenreich), a charming expatriate pilot who helps her discover the beauty of the country—and a newfound sense of freedom. As love and duty collide, Brooke must choose between the life she's built and the one she's only just begun to love.
Petrie has directed such rom-com hits as "Miss Congeniality" and "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days". He also directed the late Gene Hackman's "Welcome to Mooseport".
Manuel V. Pangilinan serves as executive producer of the film, which is produced by Ernesto (Bong) Sta. Maria. Jr. (Rosario), and Raja Collins (True Memoirs of an International Assassin, The Wrath of Becky). Simon Heo, Akshay Mehta, and Rick Dugdale as Co-Producers.
Ridley was just at SXSW for the stateside premiere of Zak Hilditch's zombie survival thriller We Bury the Dead; watch our interview with her below. She was also at SXSW last year for the noir thriller Magpie, based on an original story that she developed.
She also won rave reviews last year for her turn as Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel, in "Young Woman and the Sea" (88% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes). Other credits include Martin Campbell's London-set action-thriller "Cleaner" and the Sundance film "Sometimes I Think About Dying", which she starred in and produced.
Last year, Ridley was recognized for her dynamic roles in cinema, receiving both the Rising Star Award at the Deauville Film Festival and the Lumiere Award at the SCAD Film Festival.
She is known for playing the Jedi Rey in "Star Wars Episodes VII-IX", that trio of pics grossing $4.4 billion at the global box office. She's set to reprise her Rey role in the upcoming "Star Wars: New Jedi Order".
Ehrenreich is currently shooting the feature "Switzerland", opposite Helen Mirren for Film Nation. He most recently wrapped a starring role in Zach Cregger's New Line Cinema feature "Weapons", which is scheduled for MLK weekend 2026. Next up, Ehrenreich will be seen starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the limited series "Ironheart", a spinoff of the Black Panther films.
Last year, Ehrenreich starred in Universal's box office hit "Cocaine Bear", opposite Keri Russell, Ray Liotta and O'Shea Jackson and directed by Elizabeth Banks, as well as Christopher Nolan's multi-Oscar winning "Oppenheimer", which grossed $975.8M worldwide.
He also starred alongside Phoebe Dynevor in the highly praised "Fair Play", which was acquired by Netflix out of Sundance, and went on to debut as No. 1 on the streamer, amassing 12.6M views in the first three days.

Disney, Webtoon Ink Deal to Bring 100 Marvel, Star Wars & More Titles to Webcomics App
Yara Sameh Spider-Man, Captain America, Darth Vader, Beauty and the Beast, and more from Disney's intellectual-property treasure chest are coming to Webtoon — with about 100 titles from the Mouse House to hit the popular webcomics app in the next years. The deal between Webtoon Entertainment and Disney spans webcomics featuring iconic characters from Disney, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, and Star Wars. Those will include existing comics and graphic novels from Disney's catalog reformatted for Webtoon's vertical-scroll app, in addition to all-new original titles that are currently in development. The Disney webcomics will be available in a dedicated section of the Webtoon English-language app. Globally, Webtoon has around 155 million monthly active users. Financial terms of the multiyear deal aren't being disclosed. "The Webtoon pact is one of the biggest we have ever done,' said Daniel Fink, senior VP, head of digital innovation at Disney Consumer Products. The first Disney-owned webcomic to debut will be the Amazing Spider-Man later in August. It will be followed by Marvel's Avengers, Star Wars, Alien and 'As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale' (with Belle and the Beast). Webtoon will be promoting the new Disney partnership at New York Comic Con, which runs October 9-12. In Webtoon's freemium model, the first few episodes of a webcomic are free to read; to get full access, users must purchase in-app 'coins' and redeem them for premium purchases. At press time, the pricing of the Disney comics on Webtoon was not available. The launch of Disney comics on Webtoon comes after the companies had been in talks for about a year. Fink pointed out that webcomics readership has grown dramatically in recent years and has attracted 'people who are not traditional comics readers.' Webtoon's base of millions of monthly active users for its English-language app was appealing to Disney, and Fink sees the deal as bolstering its reach internationally and with Gen Z audiences. 'We have such amazing stories at Disney and Marvel, and we want our stories to reach as many as people as possible,' Fink added. Both Disney and Webtoon say none of the webcomics produced under their deal will use AI technology. 'It's all traditional creative,' continued Fink. The new webcomics will be produced by Webtoon with Disney's approval, but the companies aren't sharing what characters will be in the mix except to say the titles will range 'from superhero epics to galaxy-spanning adventures.' Disney talked to multiple players in the webcomics space and 'we saw that Webtoon was the clear leader,' according to Fink. In addition, Webtoon Entertainment is based in L.A. (while its parent company, Naver Corp., is based in South Korea). 'Big picture, it was a pretty easy decision,' Fink noted. Disney joined Webtoon's roster of other content partners, which includes Warner Bros. Discovery's DC Comics, Discord and K-pop giant HYBE. For Webtoon's part, the company saw a huge opportunity to team with Disney, whose brands are 'among the most legendary, creative and successful in the industry,' said Yongsoo Kim, chief strategy officer and head of global at Webtoon. 'We believe teaming up together is mutually beneficial.' Webtoon Entertainment's brands and platforms, in addition to the Webtoon app, include user-generated fiction app Wattpad, Webtoon Productions, Studio N, Studio LICO, Webtoon Unscrolled, Line Manga and eBookJapan. In June 2024, Webtoon Entertainment went public with an IPO on the Nasdaq exchange. For 2024, the company reported $1.35 billion in revenue (up 5.1%) and a net loss of $152.9 million (versus a net loss of $144.8 million the year prior). Between 2017 and 2023, the company says, it paid out $2.8 billion to creators, with the top 100 creators earning more than $1 million and overall creators were paid an average of $48,000. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

"Star Wars: Starfighter" Adds Matt Smith to Cast
Yara Sameh Matt Smith is the latest addition to the star-studded cast of Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars: Starfighter' for Lucasfilm. He will appear in a villain role, opposite previously announced cast members Ryan Gosling, and Mia Goth. This isn't Smith's first brush with the 'Star Wars' franchise. The 'House of the Dragon' star was previously cast in 'The Rise of Skywalker,' but ultimately didn't appear in the film. 'We were close to being in it, but it never quite happened. I think the thing they were thinking of before. Eventually, the part became obsolete and they didn't need it. So, I never got to be in 'Star Wars,'' rhe 'Doctor Who' alum told the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2021. While Smith refrained from elaborating on the role he would have played, many suspected he would portray the son of Emperor Palpatine. 'It was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing, a big story detail. A transformative 'Star Wars' story detail. But it never quite got over the line. It was a big shift in the history of the franchise," he added. Smith's additional credits include 'Last Night in Soho,' 'Morbius' and his Emmy-nominated turn as Prince Philip on 'The Crown.' He will soon appear in Darren Aronofsky's 'Caught Stealing' alongside Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz. 'Star Wars: Starfighter' shoots this fall and premieres in theaters on May 28, 2027. Jonathan Tropper wrote the script. He has written prior features for Levy ('The Adam Project,' 'This Is Where I Leave You') and is the creator of the Apple TV+ series 'Your Friends & Neighbors.' Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially unveiled plans for 'Starfighter' at the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo in April. The standalone, which focuses on new characters in the 'Star Wars' universe, is set roughly five years after the events of 'Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,' which concluded the Skywalker saga and stands as the final feature chronologically on the 'Star Wars' timeline. 'Star Wars: Starfighter' marks Levy's directorial follow-up to Marvel Studios' hit 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' which grossed $1.3 billion at the global box office after releasing in July 2024 and stands as the highest-grossing R-rated feature of all time. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Monochrome Monday: The Amethyst Edition
The shade that reads your aura, sharpens your silhouette, and quietly steals the show. Purple is a paradox. It's natural but elusive, royal yet rebellious. It's a colour that's never neutral, never forgettable. This week, we're skipping the sweet pastels and diving into amethyst: the deep, moody, cool-toned purple that channels both calm and power. Not quite violet, not quite plum, amethyst is the power suit of the colour wheel. It flatters everyone without ever fading in. It's the kind of hue that shifts with your energy: soft when you want it, striking when you need it. Whether sheer or structured, it doesn't just match the moment, it creates it. Long Lace Gown | Honayda Soft in texture, strong in presence. This all-lace piece turns delicacy into drama, proving sheer doesn't mean shy. Daar Dahlia | High Tide Statement Blouse Structured and saturated, this blouse wraps like armor but wears like ease. A deep-cut silhouette in deeper colour. Granita Full Set | Hadia Ghaleb Where violet meets vacation. This breezy wrap set brings bold energy to the beach, one sheer layer at a time. Selena Mini Dress | Chic Le Frique All transparency and texture, this mini dress keeps things light while turning heads. A confident piece that's playful at heart. Amethyst Drop Earrings | Jude Benhalim Part gemstone, part sculpture. These silver-wrapped drops feel ancient, elemental, and made to be seen. Begum Crystal Slingback Pumps | Amina Muaddi They're not just heels, they're the exclamation point. Clear, lilac-tinted, and built to make an entrance (and a fast exit). Bon Bon Satin Bucket Bag | Jimmy Choo Compact, silky, and finished with a silver chain handle. This is amethyst distilled into accessory form. Mirage Crêpe Kaftan | Taller Marmo A deep plum kaftan that floats with you. Perfect for movement, layering, or simply owning the moment. Crystal Oval Sunglasses | Fendi Amethyst-hued lenses and a barely-there gold frame. They don't block out the world, they tint it just enough.
