Marist Marikina U10 to represent PH in Cal Ripken World Baseball Series
The tournament, named after legendary baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr., gathers the top 10-and-under teams from around the globe to compete for the title.
"It's quite a big tournament, so we'll be up against a lot of strong and skilled teams. But of course, you can see how capable our young athletes are. We train three to four times a week, rain or shine," head coach Jayson Santiago said in a statement.
On top of achieving the title, Santiago said the team hopes to gain experience as well.
'The goal is for the team to gain experience—learn from playing internationally—and hopefully, apply those lessons back here in the Philippines so our players can continue to improve. We want to do our part in elevating the sport of baseball in the country."
The Marist team is among the 28 teams which will compete in the tournament, along with squads from the United States, Japan, Korea, and other countries.

Poy Erram reveals ACL injury
Poy Erram bared that he has sustained an ACL injury, just days after his TNT fell to San Miguel in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup finals last Friday. Erram revealed the development on Sunday as the seasoned big man is expected to be sidelined for some time, leaving the TNT frontcourt with Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Kelly Williams. Despite the setback, Erram is optimistic that he can still make a comeback. After Eala won the first round, the world no. 65 Vondrousova made sure to bounce back in dominant fashion to complete her comeback in a match which lasted for two hours and six minutes. Vondrousova also edged Eala in aces, 7-0, and led in terms of service points won (62% against 54%) and return serve points won (46% against 38%). "The only thing I expected is she's gonna play a great match and she has some great results before. I expected a tough match and it was a tough one so I'm happy to be through," Eala said in a post-game interview. With the win, Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, will face Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk in the second round. The 20-year old Eala is expected to play next in the Cincinnati Open in the United States which will start on August 7. Carlo Biado reclaims World Pool crown, becomes first Filipino to win title twice
Carlo Biado made history on Sunday as he won his second World Pool Championship title after defeating defending champion Fedor Gorst of the United States, 15-13, in the finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Biado became the first Filipino to win the title twice after winning his first one in 2017. "I'm over the moon—I still can't believe I'm a two-time World Champion. It means everything to me. I'm so proud to bring this trophy home to the Philippines," Biado said as reported by the World Nineball Tour website. Prior to the finals, Biado defeated compatriot Bernie Regalario in the semifinals. Biado had the chance to claim his second title back in 2018, although he fell short against Germany's Joshua Filler.
