The flight, which was en route from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Minot International Airport in North Dakota, was due to be a relatively simple 90-minute journey.
But the quick-thinking SkyWest Airlines pilot was called into action before landing when he was alerted of a B-52 Stratofortress in his flight path.
The bomber had taken off from the Minot Air Force Base on Saturday night without prior warning, local media reports.
The commercial Embraer E175 was forced to abort its usual route due to the incoming jet - leaving those on board shaken by a series of sharp turns.

Shortly after the chaotic few minutes, the pilot addressed the situation to the cabin crew and passengers.
He apologised for the erratic maneuvers and said once they safely landed he would detail exactly what happened.

Once they touched down in North Dakota, the pilot again spoke to passengers over the plane's public address system.

The pilot explained: "Given his speed ... I don't know how fast they were going, but they were a lot faster than us, I felt it was the safest thing to do to turn behind it."
He then performed a go-around which caused the plane to take a number of sudden movements which startled many of the passengers.

"So sorry about the aggressive maneuver, it caught me by surprise, this is not normal at all," the pilot continued.
"I don't know why they didn't give us a heads up, because the Air Force base does have radar.
"Not a fun day at work."
The pilot was quickly praised by the passengers for his calmness under the immense pressure.

"It felt good that they weren't just going to brush it off."
The passenger plane was a Delta Connection regional jet being operated by SkyWest Airlines.

Natalie said: 'Our original budget was £250 – I didn't want to spend more than that, so to come so far under budget was amazing. 'It was quite a dark room – dark floors, worktops and cupboards and I really wanted to lighten the space up as because of the extension on the back we don't get that much natural light. 'We found the vinyl easy on the straight parts of the worktops, around the sink was a bit fiddly, we watched a few tutorials on YouTube on how to do it around the sink to try and minimise any mistakes. 'My partner Chris actually did most of the sink area as I ran out of patience with it. We repurposed the handles that were already on the units as to replace 14 handles in matte black was quite expensive. 'We gave them a light sand and then we sprayed them with Rust-Oleum black matte spray paint and then sealed with a matte sealant spray. Twenty-five children among the dead after fighter jet crashed into school
FAMILIES AND TEACHERS gathered today at a Bangladeshi school where a training fighter jet crashed, killing 25 children and two others in the country's deadliest aviation accident in decades. Most of the victims were pupils who had just been let out of class when the Chinese-made F-7 BJI aircraft slammed into the Milestone School and College yesterday. 'So far, 27 people have died. Among them, 25 are children and one is a pilot,' said Sayedur Rahman from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, updating an earlier death toll of 20. 'Seventy-eight people are being treated in different hospitals,' added Rahman, special assistant to the ministry's chief adviser. More than 170 people were injured in the crash, said the military which is investigating the cause. The usually bustling school was eerily quiet this morning, with classes cancelled. 'Along with the children, the school has lost its life,' said teacher Shahadat Hossain, whose son narrowly escaped the crash. 'There are two swings in front of the affected building. During lunch breaks and after school, children play there. Even yesterday, around the time the plane crashed, students were on those swings,' the 45-year-old told news agency AFP. Around 7,000 pupils are enrolled at the school, including Abul Bashar's sixth-grade son whose best friend was killed. 'He came out just two or three minutes before the accident occurred,' said Bashar. 'He couldn't sleep through the night and forced me to bring him to school this morning,' the father added, his son standing in silence.
