Drivers 'shocked' after discovering what the speed camera sign actually means

Do you know this? Drivers have been left shocked after finding out exactly what the picture on a speed camera sign actually means. While most motorists will be familiar with the bright yellow sign, many might not know what it depicts. ‌ Drivers and other road users will no doubt have seen the common sign on various British roads warning them that a speed camera is coming up. If you aren't following the speed limit, then you could end up with a hefty fine, so it's important to make sure you know clearly what it means. ‌ However, the Mirror reports that the graphic on the sign has divided opinions online, as nobody can agree on what it actually means. ‌ When one man shared the truth on social media, the news left some people "distressed". People were so stunned that the original poster posted an apology to the viewers, writing: "Wow, I'm so sorry to have caused so much distress and discomfort." If you've ever assumed the speed camera image is that of a side-profile Victorian-style camera, we're sorry to tell you this—but it is not. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The post read: "For years I thought the UK speed camera sign depicted a Victorian bellows camera pointing to the right, but it's just a boring CCTV camera pointing towards the viewer. (I accept that it's not CCTV cos that's literally different technology, but w/e the stuff on the right is definitely an arm attachment and not old-timey bellows!)" Once this tweet was posted online, drivers were sent into a frenzy as many had no idea. One wrote: "I'm distressed and discomforted." Another said: "What is even reality?" ‌ And a third even said: "You sicken me." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Drivers should ensure they're familiar with road sign meanings as ignoring a traffic sign or road marking could lead to serious legal consequences, fines, and even a driving ban. Police and traffic services can verify if a motorist has failed to adhere to a sign using cameras and ANPR. Traffic signs and road markings serve to provide warnings or information about the road conditions, contributing to overall safety. ‌ Failure to comply with these signs, either deliberately or unknowingly, can result in severe penalties. We recently revealed the worst roads in Scotland for speeding fines and motorists wanting to avoid these penalties will want to be aware of them. In other motoring news, drivers have been warned about incorrectly using an important car feature while on the road. Scotland has recently experienced toasty temperatures, no doubt resulting in Scots motorists to crank up their vehicle's air conditioning. But experts have warned how improper AC use could be costing you more in the long run.
