Will explore possibilities to teach non-Hindi languages to children in Delhi: CM Gupta
This initiative was discussed during a recent meeting with the Department of Art, Culture, and Languages, an official statement said.
New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta proposed the launch of a student exchange programme with students from other states to foster mutual understanding and harmony, officials said on Sunday.
The exchange would give children the opportunity to learn about different cultures and lifestyles, and help foster mutual understanding and harmony, Gupta said, adding that such an initiative would significantly strengthen the nation's unity in diversity.
Emphasising the importance of promoting and expanding the art and culture of various states across the national capital, the chief minister noted that the Department of Art, Culture and Languages can play a vital role in this endeavour by broadening the scope of its programmes and activities.
Calling on the department to take its initiatives beyond designated locations and bring them to the general public to enhance public participation, Gupta directed officials to ensure that regional festivals celebrated in Delhi include artists from the respective states, as this would help generate greater public interest in these events.
Officials were instructed to prepare a detailed report to support the promotion of India's languages in the capital.
Additionally, Gupta called for organising events such as women's art exhibitions, artist camps, music and dance festivals, theatrical performances, and religious celebrations like Chhath Puja and Durga Puja throughout the city to further involve the public.
Highlighting Delhi's diverse population, she emphasised the growing celebration of regional festivals and directed officials to involve artists from different states in these events.
'Delhi is not merely the capital city but also a reflection of the country's cultural identity. We want the art and culture of various states to reach every street and for every individual to feel connected to it,' she said. PTI SLB MPL MPL

UP Police seeks custody of kingpin Harsh Vardhan Jain in 'fake embassy' case
Ghaziabad/Lucknow, Police in Ghaziabad has moved an application seeking the remand of Harsh Vardhan Jain, the alleged mastermind behind bogus 'embassies', who was arrested and sent to jail earlier this week for fraud and other offences. UP Police seeks custody of kingpin Harsh Vardhan Jain in 'fake embassy' case A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told PTI on Friday that the application for Jain's police custody has been filed and is likely to be heard by the court on Monday. "Beyond routine investigation, police are also looking into Jain's liaisoning network. His association and photographs with international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi have surfaced during the preliminary probe," the officer said. "Authorities suspect there may be a counter-intelligence angle involved, and several incriminating documents have been recovered," the officer added. Jain's elaborate racket was busted by the Special Task Force and the case is now being investigated by Ghaziabad Police. The STF is assisting the local police in pursuing the case. Meanwhile, the police also took note of a purported "official statement" issued by "Westarctica" on Friday in which the micronation distanced itself from Jain. "Jain was an authorised representative engaging in unauthorized activities," the statement from "Westarctica" said, clarifying that while Jain held the honorary title of "Honorary Consul to India" after making a donation in 2016, he was "never granted ambassadorial status". Founded in 2001 by former US Navy intelligence analyst Travis McHenry, "Westarctica" functions primarily as an environmental advocacy nonprofit registered in the US, with tax-exempt status since 2018. "Although they have issued a statement but its status as a nation is unrecognised therefore the statement holds zero value for us. However, we are getting it legally vetted for further perusal," the police officer, involved in the probe, told PTI. On Tuesday, the STF had raided Jain's rented bungalow in Ghaziabad's Kavinagar area and uncovered a fake embassy setup. The STF recovered ₹44.7 lakh in cash, multiple foreign currencies, fake diplomatic passports, 18 forged diplomatic number plates, and seals purportedly from the Ministry of External Affairs and firms in 34 countries. STF officials revealed that Jain had previously established over a dozen companies in Europe, allegedly used to facilitate hawala operations in collaboration with international associates, including Hyderabad-born Turkish citizen Ehsan Ali Syed - now jailed in Switzerland for fraud. Jain had also styled himself as an ambassador to other fictitious entities like "Saborga", "Paulovia" and "Lodonia", allegedly defrauding individuals under the pretense of offering overseas jobs and visas. We feel abandoned: Engineering aspirants urge WBJEE Board to publish results
Kolkata, Jul 25 (PTI) A group of aspiring engineering students on Friday wrote to the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (WBJEE) Board, voicing concern over the delay in declaring the results. They said it has been three months since the exam for admission to undergraduate engineering courses in West Bengal was held. 'Yet no official update or tentative date for the results has been shared by the WBJEE Board," they said, 'such prolonged uncertainty is causing us extreme mental stress and anxiety". Noting that the delay will cause disruption in academics, they said 'loss of opportunities in parallel counselling processes like JEE and CUET, and colleges beginning classes is risking our admission chances". 'As responsible students who have worked hard and followed every official instruction sincerely, we feel abandoned and ignored at a crucial turning point in our academic lives," they added. The aspirants said that they have approached the WBJEE Board and the Education Department multiple times, but received no substantive response. The letter was issued in the name of the WBJEE Students' Forum, a group of around 500 students who appeared in the exam held on April 27. Education Minister Bratya Basu earlier said the state government was ready to publish the WBJEE results, but it was exercising caution in light of the legal proceeding over the OBC reservation issue. WBJEE Board Chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee could not be contacted for a comment.
