Punjab Kings Star Takes Blame For IPL 2025 Final Loss: "Actual Captain Is..."
Punjab Kings batter Nehal Wadhera took the entire blame for his team's loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final. Wadhera emerged as one of the top performers for PBKS in the competition but failed to score big in the summit clash as he was dismissed for 15 runs off 18 balls. In a recent interaction, Wadhera opened up about the game and said that he failed to accelerate his innings at the right time - something that worked against his side.
"I totally blame myself. If I had played better at that time, we could have definitely won. I won't blame the pitch because RCB scored 190 runs. I think I was just taking the game deep, and I believe in finishing games by taking it deep. I think this was one of those days when I couldn't finish the game. When I had to accelerate in all the tournaments, whenever I accelerated, I think it paid off except for the last game."
"Some days, it doesn't click, and I think it was the same day when it didn't happen. But I don't have any regrets that I was taking the game deep, and that situation was fine because the wickets were falling, but I think I could have accelerated a little more, which I have learnt and analysed. I will do that in the future and that will help me and the team," Wadhera told Hindustan Times.
Wadhera was also all praise for PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer and how he led the franchise in IPL 2025.
"You all have seen Shreyas' captaincy, but I think an actual captain is a leader, and his captaincy and leadership can be seen from off the field and the way he carries himself off the field. We have seen him closely in hotels, and we spend a lot of time together, and you also know the statements which he gives. I think he gave a statement which I liked a lot and I have seen that he applies it."
"I think the statement that he is giving and applying it in real life off the field I think his confidence goes up just like that. The way he behaves off the field, his attitude is reflected in the game and I think a good captain, his attitude, the way he speaks, the way he handles people, if he is good, he is automatically a good leader and I think he is a perfect example for that," the youngster said.

"Just 24 Or 25...": Ex-India Star's Clear Verdict On Shubman Gill Becoming Test Captain
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Robin Uthappa has praised the selection committee for appointing a young captain in Shubman Gill for the upcoming Test series against England. Gill replaces the now-retired Rohit Sharma at the helm. Virat Kohli too is no longer part of the Test setup following his retirement from the format last month. Uthappa highlighted how Gill, 25, could end up leading the Indian team for the next decade or so if he manages to do well in England. "You have got to give tops to that selection committee because they have gone with foresight. Shubman is just 24 or 25 right now. If he gets this right, then you can see him leading the Indian Test side for the next 10 years, the next decade, and that leaves Indian cricket in great hands because he is a high-quality bat," Uthappa said on Star Sports. Uthappa praised Gill for his leadership during the recently-concluded IPL season, where he led Gujarat Titans to the playoffs after a disappointing first campaign as captain last year. "We have seen his captaincy evolve from last year to this year just in the IPL, just the way he led the Gujarat Titans, the intensity with which he functioned, the decisions he made on the field, and the way he stood up for his teammates with the umpires or anything that happened on the field," he added. Uthappa pointed a bright future for Gill as captain in international cricket. "He is going to be a great leader. He is a smart cricketer. He has got a good brain for the game. He understands his game deeply. He is very talented, and he is a nice human being. He has all the raw materials to become a really good leader," Uthappa explained. "The one thing I like about Shubman is that he will walk his talk as well. He is very organized and diligent around his training and his preparation, which will be a great example to other players. I think he is primed to take on the international scene by storm," he further pointed out.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka govt hints at RCB announcement in Ahmedabad after IPL win being a trigger
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team made an announcement on June 3 in Ahmedabad at 11.30 pm about hosting celebrations in Bengaluru on June 4 for its first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) final victory, the Karnataka government Thursday said in a factual narration of events in a report given to the Karnataka High Court on the June 4 stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium that resulted in the death of 11 RCB fans. 'On factual narration what emerges is that on the evening of June 3, at 11.30 PM, they have stated that they are coming to Bengaluru for celebrations,' state Advocate General K M Shashikiran Shetty told a division bench of the Karnataka High Court after providing a report in a sealed cover on the stampede deaths, as sought by the court. The high court has posed nine questions to the Karnataka government with regard to the June 4 stampede. Among the questions posed by the HC are, 'When and who has taken the decision to hold the victory celebration and in what manner?' Whether 'any permission was sought to organize the event?' and 'whether any SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) has been formulated to manage a crowd of 50,000 and above in any sports event and celebrations of this nature?' The Karnataka government, which also felicitated the RCB team on June 4 in Bengaluru, has been arguing in the courts that the cause of the stampede at the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium was the unilateral decision of RCB to invite fans for an open celebration in Bengaluru on June 4 – through announcements in Ahmedabad on June 3 (including those by key RCB players after the win) and social media posts early on June 4. The government has argued that open invitations were extended to fans without RCB obtaining the official clearances needed from the Bengaluru police for hosting the event. 'The pre incident, the incident, the post incident – we have given a factual narration and answered all your queries to the extent possible on the basis of the material that is available,' the Karnataka advocate general told the HC on Thursday after handing over a report. The division bench of the HC comprising Acting Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao and Justice C M Joshi adjourned the suo motu petition for further hearing on June 17 after noting that the AG had 'filed the report sought by us'. The high court also ordered that 'all the original correspondence – both offline/online – of all stakeholders involved in organizing the event should be kept in safe custody.' The HC identified the Karnataka chief secretary to be the custodian of the correspondence. In the wake of the Bengaluru stampede, the state government had suspended five police officers – including the Bengaluru police commissioner – on June 6. It also constituted a one-man judicial commission to probe the stampede incident and the deaths.
