Fadnavis continuously reviewing situation created by rains in Maharashtra

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 27 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been continuously reviewing the situation created by rains in the state and has instructed the entire administration to be on alert mode. He has ordered immediate panchnamas to be conducted in the places where damage has occurred. He is in constant touch with the state Chief Secretary and the state Disaster Management Cell.
Pune, Satara, Solapur, Raigad, Mumbai and MMR areas have received heavy rainfall in the state, officials said.
Twenty-five houses have partially collapsed in Baramati and seven people trapped in the flood have been rescued. About 80 families have been shifted to safer places. Two people have been rescued from the flood situation in Indapur. An NDRF team has reached Phaltan. Thirty people were stranded near Dudhebavi village. They have been provided with accommodation and food facilities.
Officials said Solapur received 67.75 mm of rain. Six people were stranded in the flood in Malshiras taluka and have been shifted to a safe place.
One person died due to lightning in Raigad, while the Mahad to Raigad Fort road has been closed due to heavy rain.
Mumbai received 135.4 mm of rain in 24 hours, officials said. Complaints of short circuit incidents were received from 18 places and complaints of building walls collapsing at five places. Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Fire Department, Mumbai Police and all other agencies are geared up. NDRF teams are ready at five places in Mumbai for any kind of help. Meteorological Department has predicted rains with thunder and gale force winds in Mumbai. (ANI)

Karachi [Pakistan], June 8 (ANI): The port city has been experiencing a series of mild earthquakes for over a week, with 32 tremors recorded since June 1, Geo News reported, citing Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari's statement. According to Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari, the earthquakes had magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 3.6 on the Richter scale. The most recent tremor, recorded on Friday at 8:32 am, had a magnitude of 1.5. The earthquakes have been reported from various areas, including Quaidabad, Gadap, Malir, DHA, and Korangi. The depth of the tremors varied from 2 km to 188 km, as per Geo News. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has confirmed the tremors, with the first recorded earthquake having a magnitude of 2.7 and a depth of 2 km, centered around 20 km south of the defense area. Meanwhile, the second quake was at a depth of 8km and had an epicentre around 7km northwest of Malir. According to Geo News, explaining the reasons behind such continuous tremors, Laghari had earlier told Geo News that the Landhi Fault Line had become active after several decades and is currently going through a normalisation phase. He had said that mild quakes may continue for up to a week due to the gradual release of energy, which helps prevent a major earthquake. The shallow depth of recent quakes makes them more noticeable. The official advised that buildings on fault lines should withstand tremors up to magnitude 6.0. He also noted that the cracks reported in some houses are likely due to structural issues. Another fault line near Thana Bula Khan is contributing to seismic activity. Notably, Pakistan is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, being crossed by several major faults. As a result, earthquakes in Pakistan often occur and are destructive. Pakistan geologically overlaps both the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates. Balochistan, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces lie on the southern edge of the Eurasian plate on the Iranian Plateau. Sindh, Punjab, and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir provinces lie on the northwestern edge of the Indian plate in South Asia. However, this region is prone to violent earthquakes, as the two tectonic plates collide. (ANI)

IAF aircraft airlifts critically 'ill' army personnel from Kargil

On June 4, In the wake of heavy rains and devastating landslides in North Sikkim, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday carried out urgent rescue and relief operations in the remote region of Chaten and evacuated 33 stranded people, including two US nationals, from the remote and rain-battered Chaten region of North Sikkim. In a statement, the Indian Air Force earlier said, 'In response to the devastating landslides in Sikkim, Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters rapidly launched Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Ops -- dropping relief supplies, inserting NDRF teams, and evacuating 33 stranded individuals, including two US nationals, from the remote Chaten region.' However, a prior operation to evacuate 113 stranded tourists from Lachen during the early hours had to be called off due to bad weather. An Mi-17 helicopter carrying nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel took off from Pakyong Airport , but was forced to return mid-air because of poor visibility near Mangan and Chaten. Stage-I GRAP measures enforced in NCR as Delhi AQI plunges to 'poor'
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): In view of rising pollution levels, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect. The action came after Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 209, which falls under the 'Poor' category. The decision was a comprehensive review by the CAQM Sub-Committee, which convened on Saturday and reviewed the air quality scenario in the region, as well as the IMD/IITM forecasts and air quality index of Delhi comprehensively. 'The AQI of Delhi has shown an increasing trend and has been recorded at 209 for 07.06.2025. Further, the forecast by IMD/IITM also predicts AQI to mainly remain in 'Poor' category in coming days,' said the statement from CAQM 'The Sub-Committee, accordingly, decides to invoke all actions under Stage-I ('Poor' Air Quality) of the extant GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect,' it added. On May 18 following the subsequent decrease in the air pollution levels, the CAQM revoked the Stage-I measures of the Graded Response Action Plan across the entire NCR. An AQI rating is categorised as follows: 0-50 (good), 51-100 (satisfactory), 101-200 (moderate), 201-300 (poor), 301-400 (very poor), and 401-500 (severe). (ANI)
