Gary Neville makes underwhelming prediction for Man Utd's season after £200million transfer spree

Neville also gave his verdict on one factor that could help Man Utd's fortunes this season nev-er mind Gary Neville makes underwhelming prediction for Man Utd's season after £200million transfer spree GARY Neville believes Manchester United MUST buy a new goalkeeper to have ANY chance of a top six finish. Sky Sports pundit Neville won eight Prem crowns as Old Trafford's starting right-back under Sir Alex Ferguson. But Neville, 50, is dismissive of United's prospects of coming close to the top of the tree this term. And he suggested that even earning Champions League football was out of the equation unless Ruben Amorim can land a new No 1. Neville said: 'For United, the top six would be healthy. 'We've gone past the point now where we say Manchester United have to win the league. That's unrealistic. 'But without Europe, they could get into the top six if they have a good run, if they get a goalkeeper. But a lot of things have to go their way.' Neville, whose criticisms of United last term grew increasingly strident as the club plunged to its worst top flight finish in half a century, feels the summer spending at the front end has made a difference. United, being linked with PSG gloveman Gianluigi Donnarumma - who is determined to quit the European champions - have splashed out £200m to land Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and now Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Advertisement CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS All three are set to start when United open their campaign against Arsenal on Sunday. Speaking at the Sky Sports season launch, Neville added: 'If you said to me after that Europa League Final defeat to Spurs that Manchester United would have a forward line of those three that they've signed, I'd take that, I'd have snapped your hand off. Gary Neville names four Man Utd stars who must leave this summer 'I didn't think they had £200 million to spend. Advertisement 'So the fact they've signed those three players is good. 'I like the profile of those players, whether they settle in now is obviously the big question. 'Two of them are proven Premier League players, although they've got to step up a level. 'Mbeumo is quite solid, he's robust, he's played at Premier League level. Advertisement 'He and Cunha know the Premier League, they've been to all the grounds, there's no shocks for them. 4 Man Utd have spent big this summer on Premier League proven talent such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha Credit: Getty 4 The addition of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko last week took their spending for the window to over £200million Credit: Getty 'And Sesko up front. He's young, he's got potential but can he get off to a good start? That's important for him.' Advertisement He added: 'Can they embed themselves at United? Can they get the probably 35-40 goals which would be par for those three players? 'If they can get 40 goals - and United's goals total last season was terrible - they've got chance of getting into that top six. 'But they've got to settle those three players, and we can't take that for granted anymore at United, I don't think. 'United will be looking at Champions League, that'll be the ambition. Advertisement 'Not playing in Europe has to help, because there's basically more training time, less pressure on the players, less injuries. 'It means that the best players can play more often in the league, and not have those demands of a Thursday night game. 'But we've got to start the season well - and there are some tough fixtures early on.' Sky Sports and NOW will broadcast over 215 Premier League matches exclusively live this season

Yves Bissouma axed by Tottenham for Super Cup over disciplinary issue

Yves Bissouma has been left out of Tottenham's Super Cup squad for disciplinary reasons in an unhelpful distraction to Thomas Frank's attempt to mark his debut with silverware. Frank will take charge of his first competitive match as Spurs head coach on Wednesday at Stadio Friuli in Udine and could lift a trophy if they can upset Champions League winners Paris St Germain. Bissouma has been left at home after being late 'several times' this summer, but Frank has Dominic Solanke available and will aim to mark his Tottenham bow with further cup glory after predecessor Ange Postecoglou masterminded Europa League success in May. Ange Postecoglou lifts the Europa League trophy after Tottenham's win in the final against Manchester United (Andrew Milligan/PA) 'I think for the team, for me, for everybody involved at Tottenham Hotspur, it's a massive game,' Frank reflected. 'A great challenge and an even bigger opportunity. That's how my brain works, I see opportunities instead of pressure or whatever. So for me, massive opportunity and we will definitely embrace it. 'My players, our players, they just won a big trophy six or seven weeks ago, so they had a fantastic experience of doing that and they want to win more. 'It was a great feeling, everything I heard about it, fantastic experience, so the players will be ready.' Even though PSG only returned to pre-season training last Wednesday following the Club World Cup, Spurs enter this fixture under-strength with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski long-term absentees and Destiny Udogie still sidelined. It makes the omission of Bissouma all the more eye-catching and could spell the end of his time at the club given the Mali international, who started the Europa League final, is into the final 12 months of his contract. He has been late several times and the latest time was one too many. Frank explained: 'Bissouma has not travelled with the team because of disciplinary reasons. 'He has been late several times and the latest time was one too many. 'With everything you need to give your players a lot of love but also have demands and there also need to be consequences and this time there was a consequence for that. 'I will follow up when I come home. I will park it now because there is a relatively important game for tomorrow.' Summer recruits Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus are expected to make their debuts against PSG but Frank will largely turn to the squad that ended Tottenham's 17-year trophy drought under Postecoglou. Guglielmo Vicario was a key figure in their Europa League run and acknowledged how special it will be to play for a trophy in his home city of Udine. Guglielmo Vicario will be on home soil (John Walton/PA) 'Personally, it will be an emotional day but as soon as we get close to kick-off emotions have to stay away and we have to be focused on what we have to deliver on the pitch,' Vicario promised. 'It will be an amazing game and we need to be ready to win. 'We have set the tone and we want to repeat and to do it again. We have tasted the feeling and this feeling is amazing so we want to do it again and we have the opportunity tomorrow with another European final.' Tottenham will announce their new captain on Wednesday after Son Heung-min left to join Los Angeles. Ben Davies, Spurs' longest-serving player after his 2015 arrival, added: 'We lost Sonny and he was a big part of the dressing room and obviously a huge player for us. 'We are definitely going to feel his loss but ultimately the senior guys in this team have to be here to support everyone.'
