Parents of fallen Morrow County deputy speak out as suspect awaits new court date
MOUNT GILEAD, Ohio (WCMH) – The parents of fallen Morrow County Deputy Daniel 'Weston' Sherrer issued their first public comments since their son was killed during a shootout on Memorial Day.
The sheriff's office on Monday released the statement on behalf of Dan and Julie Sherrer, who expressed gratitude to all who reached out to the two of them as well as their daughter and Daniel's fiancée. They thanked the Morrow County community and law enforcement for bringing them comfort during their time of grief.
'Please remember that just like our Weston, law enforcement officers protect us and encounter situations daily that most people fear,' wrote Dan and Julie Sherrer in a statement. 'Yet, they bravely persevere, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice. Please continue to keep our families in your prayers.'

Daniel Sherrer responded to a domestic violence call on May 26 when he was fatally shot. He was honored with a 120-mile procession and a memorial ceremony in a high school gymnasium attended by hundreds before being laid to rest at Marion Cemetery.
Accused in his death is Brian Wilson, who faces 14 charges, including aggravated murder, and remains in jail with a $5 million bond. The Morrow County Prosecutor's Office intends to seek the death penalty.
On Monday, Wilson's case was transferred to Morrow County Common Pleas Court. His initial appearance has yet to be set.

Hilliard man allegedly aletered photos to depict child pornography
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A Hilliard man is under arrest for possessing sexual material depicting children, including images generated by artificial intelligence. Austin Pittman, 25, was arrested last month and faces federal charges of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor. According to court records filed Monday, electronic devices belonging to Pittman allegedly contained hundreds of images depicting children engaging in sexual acts, including some generated and used by law enforcement officials to track suspects. Pittman allegedly altered images he took to have them depict child sexual abuse. The investigation into Pittman started in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where Pittman was given an 'other than honorable discharge' from the U.S. Army, court records state. The investigation traced IP addresses and Kik usernames all registered to Pittman, according to court records. When confronted by law enforcement, Pittman allegedly admitted to viewing the child pornography for the 'shock factor,' court records state. He then allegedly admitted to exchanging child sexual material with others and that he had a pornography problem. He is charged with receipt/transportation/distribution/possession of child pornography, possession of AI generated child pornography, and production of morphed image or AI generated child pornography. Chicago pastor leads public prayer for city's safety and fallen CPD officer
CHICAGO — In a parking lot off 87th Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, you'll find a weekly gathering in the summer where the community is invited to pray. 'This is my sixth year coming out here every Monday in between Memorial Day and Labor Day to pray for the city, pray for the violence,' Pastor Donovan Price said. Price leads the sessions in a welcoming setting where even his shoes send a message to walk by faith. 'Because we know prayer has some power. Prayer changes things,' he said. During this week's prayer, the group honored the life of fallen Chicago police officer Krystal Rivera and prayed for the safety of the Chicago Police Department. Fallen CPD officer remembered for courage and compassion by loved ones and colleagues 'When an officer is killed, then a member of the family has been lost. A pillar of the community has been lost,' Price said. Rivera, four-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, was killed after another officer unintentionally shot her during a call on the city's South Side last week. 'We're praying for peace, for her family's heart and spirit. We're praying for some level of understanding for her daughter. We're praying for her partner that he might have some peace,' Price said. 'And there's part of us that should be praying for those who caused this situation in the first place.' Suspect held in connection with accidental fatal shooting of Chicago officer Through some clapping and some singing, they hope to bring peace and healing throughout the city. 'We're thankful for all those who are still making it, trying to make it through,' Price said.
