Lewis Capaldi Showcases Uplifting Single ‘Survive' on ‘Fallon'

Yahoo4 days ago
Lewis Capaldi appeared on The Tonight Show to perform his new single, 'Survive,' and to discuss his return to music with host Jimmy Fallon.
The musician shared an emotional rendition of 'Survive,' which he initially debuted at Glastonbury in June. He was joined by a live band for the triumphant acoustic number, Capaldi's first new song in nearly two years. The song addresses Capaldi's mental health struggles in the wake of his battle with Tourette's syndrome.

Capaldi sat down with Fallon to discuss the single and his surprise set on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage. The singer had last performed at the festival in 2023, where he was seen battling Tourette's throughout his set. Shortly after, he announced all upcoming tour dates would be cancelled to focus on his mental and physical well-being. He acknowledged that returning to Glastonbury was 'terrifying.'
'In the lead-up to it I was like, 'This is horrific. I made a terrible decision,'' Capaldi told Fallon. 'And then I went out and then we did it and it was really beautiful and lovely, and it went exactly as how I hoped. And it was probably the best day of my life.'
He added, joking, 'Until, I assume, when I have a child. I'll be like, 'Well, maybe Glastonbury was still better.''
Capaldi also discussed his partnership with online therapy service BetterHelp and how therapy has helped him in his own mental health journey. He recalled having a 'mental breakdown' on stage in 2023 and explained what it has taken to get him to a more stable place. Now, Capaldi is ready to perform again regularly. 'We've just announced a U.K. arena tour and an Australia arena tour,' he noted. 'You can try and get tickets, but they're sold out baby!'
Earlier this month, Capaldi confirmed he is in the process of readying a new EP. 'I don't know about an album, but I'm doing an EP at some point this year, and then album maybe will follow next year,' the musician said on Good Morning America. He said his next single will arrive 'later this summer, and then another song after that, and another song after that, until the day I die.'

Remembering Malcolm-Jamal Warner: A look at memorable Theo moments from 'The Cosby Show'

The memory of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who died this week at age 54, will live on amongst his loved ones and fans of his iconic performance as Theodore "Theo" Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." Warner reportedly drowned after being caught by a high current in the water while swimming near Cocles, a beach in Limon, Costa Rica, on July 20. The Emmy-nominated actor's death shocked the world and resulted in a wave of tributes from the Hollywood industry. Bill Cosby, who notably played his TV dad Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, said: "I enjoyed working with him very much." Warner was also known for his roles in the 1990s UPN sitcom "Malcolm & Eddie" and as Dr. AJ Austin on the Fox medical drama "The Resident." However, his portrayal as Theo on the 1980s trailblazing sitcom "The Cosby Show," hailed for shattering stereotypes about Black families, has stuck with people even decades later. "You were (the) cornerstone of 'The Cosby Show.' We all loved Theo! Never to be forgotten," actress Niecy Nash wrote. Here are some memorable moments fans of the show have come to know and love over the years featuring Theo on "The Cosby Show." His father, Cliff, orders him to take it back to the store and purchase a different one for $30. His sister, Denise, offers to sew him a replica for the reduced price, but it didn't turn out like he hoped. "Is this my shirt? Is this the shirt I paid $30 for? Is this the shirt they're supposed to think is a Gordon Gatrelle?" he yelled when he saw the results. This episode aired in 1984, but the image of Theo wearing the Gordon Gatrelle shirt has become a staple in pop culture. It's often used on social media in the form of memes or GIFs to react to a funny or embarrassing situation. Actor Anthony Mackie even paid homage to the classic episode several months ago when he appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" on Halloween. Mackie walked out in the shirt and stated he had to go "old school". Fallon then asks "Is this a real Gordon Gatrelle?" to which Mackie replies, "This is an authentic Gordon Gatrelle!" @AnthonyMackie wore Denise's Gordon Gartrelle shirt on The Tonight Show and it made the hearts of Elder Millennials soar. Trump and Jimmy Kimmel are trading barbs after Stephen Colbert's cancellation

Stephen Colbert's canceled, President Trump is on the attack, and Jimmy Kimmel is hitting back. Trump said Tuesday in a Truth Social post that ABC's Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, host of NBC's "Tonight Show," would be "NEXT to go" after CBS declined to renew Colbert's contract. "The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone," Trump wrote. The president slammed Kimmel and Fallon as having "absolutely NO TALENT" and even blamed them for "destroying what used to be GREAT Television." Kimmel clapped back an hour later on Instagram by alluding to The Wall Street Journal's reporting on Trump and disgraced financier and sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019. The Journal reported that a letter bearing Trump's name was given to Epstein as part of a book created for his birthday in 2003. In an interview with the Journal, Trump denied writing the letter or drawing the picture, saying, "I never wrote a picture in my life. I don't draw pictures of women," and "It's not my language. It's not my words." Trump has since sued the Journal over the story, alleging defamation. "I'm hearing you're next. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret," Kimmel wrote in the Instagram post, which featured a screenshot of Trump's post about him. The Journal reported that the letter bearing Trump's name said: "Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret." Kimmel, Fallon, and spokespeople for ABC, NBC, and CBS didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Hosts and others in the entertainment community have been sounding off and standing up for Colbert after CBS declined to renew his show when his contract expires in mid-2026. The cancellation has drawn scrutiny for its timing, as CBS's parent company, Paramount Global, needs FCC approval for an acquisition by Skydance. This month, Paramount said it had agreed to pay Trump a $16 million settlement. Trump had sued CBS, alleging "60 Minutes" had deceptively edited an interview with Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign. "I don't like it. I don't like what's going on one bit — these are crazy times," Fallon said in reference to the Colbert cancellation to open his show on Monday night. Jon Stewart also blasted CBS's decision during an expletive-filled monologue on Monday's "The Daily Show." "When your industry is faced with changes, you don't just call it a day. My God, when CDs stopped selling, they didn't just go, 'Oh well, music, it's been a good run,'" Stewart said. Stewart and Colbert's shows share a parent company in Paramount.
