UAE participates in 7th BRICS Youth Energy Summit
BRASÍLIA (WAM) A UAE delegation, headed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the 7th BRICS Youth Energy Summit, hosted by Brazil. The summit saw the participation of youth delegations comprising elite experts and professionals from member states and invited countries.The UAE delegation included representatives of several leading national entities in the energy sector, including the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the Federal Youth Authority, Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), and the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA).This participation comes as part of the UAE's ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation, empower youth, and showcase its leadership in the field of energy transition. It aligns with goal 7 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.The UAE delegation participated as a keynote speaker in the panel discussion titled: 'Technological Advancements for Low-Carbon Power Systems,' where it highlighted the country's progress in developing smart and resilient energy systems based on low-carbon fuels—such as clean hydrogen, solar energy, and sustainable aviation fuel.The delegation also highlighted the UAE's pioneering national policies and initiatives, foremost among them the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050.Additionally, the delegation emphasised the country's commitment to implementing the outcomes of the historic UAE Consensus, launched during its presidency of COP28, which calls for a just and orderly transition away from fossil fuels, the expansion of renewable energy technologies, and the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050.The delegation stressed the importance of investing in technology and innovation, building national capacities, and empowering youth to lead the global transition toward low-emission energy systems.Emirati success stories in clean energy and research and development were also showcased, serving as inspiring models for BRICS countries and the wider world.
At the conclusion of the summit, the delegation reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to strengthening cooperation with its international partners within the BRICS group to build a more secure, sustainable, and inclusive energy future for generations to come.

The event aimed to build a shared youth vision, discuss opportunities and resources to empower young research leaders, strengthen their societal role, and contribute effectively to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop was held in the conference hall at TRENDS' headquarters in Abu workshop brought together members of the TRENDS Youth Council, members of its Advisory Council, as well as several experts, academics, and focused on the characteristics of successful leadership personalities, ways to enhance youth empowerment in scientific research, and the development of innovative training programs to equip them with modern research tools. Participants also explored approaches to encourage youth openness to diverse cultures and communities, fostering dialogue and exchange with peers worldwide. Spaces for Constructive DialogueParticipants emphasised that TRENDS has provided them with an open platform to express their creative talents in research and demonstrate their leadership abilities in various administrative roles. This was made possible through the centre's ideal work environment, innovative training programs, and ample spaces for constructive dialogue and interaction with experts and specialists. Such opportunities have helped refine their leadership skills, nurture creative thinking, and enhance their ability to make accurate and bold decisions. Members of the TRENDS Youth Council stated that the workshop was part of TRENDS' ongoing efforts to support and empower youth, and to promote their active participation in research and community engagement. Discussions highlighted ways to develop leadership skills among young people and their vital role in achieving the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop also reviewed key qualities of successful young leaders-creativity, flexibility, curiosity, courage, critical analysis, and decision-making stressing the importance of cultural openness, knowledge exchange, and active participation in regional and international youth forums. Leveraging AI Members of the TRENDS Youth Council said that the workshop also addressed methods to design specialised training programs to enable young researchers to master innovative scientific research tools and methodologies. This included the use of artificial intelligence, modern technologies, and data analysis, as well as proposing scientific solutions to contemporary global issues and societal and environmental underscored the importance of raising youth awareness of the SDGs and their pivotal role in achieving them through research initiatives, volunteer work, constructive dialogue, and the exchange of scientific and practical expertise among youth from around the world. Such efforts aim to advance development and tackle shared global challenges. A Sustainable Forward-Looking Vision Members of the Advisory Council to the TRENDS Youth Council noted that the interactive workshop reaffirmed TRENDS' commitment to its mission and sustainable, forward-looking vision of building youth capacity, empowering them academically and intellectually, and preparing a generation of researchers capable of leading development efforts in the stressed that youth empowerment is at the core of TRENDS' priorities and global research strategy, reflecting the belief that young people are the foundation of the future, the drivers of development, and the builders of tomorrow. TRENDS continues to train young people with the latest research tools, enhance their leadership skills, and provide opportunities to advance their creative abilities and contribute to decision-making. India's Modi, Brazil's Lula speak amid Trump tariff blitz
BENGALURU/BRASILIA: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva spoke by phone on Thursday, their offices said, discussing a broad range of topics that included tariffs imposed by the United States on goods from both countries. Lula confirmed a state visit to India in early 2026 during the call, which occurred a day after the Brazilian leader told Reuters he would initiate a conversation among the BRICS group of countries on tackling U.S. President Donald Trump's levies. The group of major emerging economies also includes China, Russia and South Africa. "The leaders discussed the international economic scenario and the imposition of unilateral tariffs. Brazil and India are, to date, the two countries most affected," Lula's office said in a statement. Trump announced an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods on Wednesday, raising the total duty to 50%. The additional tariff, effective August 28, is meant to penalize India for continuing to buy Russian oil, Trump has said. Trump has also slapped a 50% tariff on goods from Brazil, with lower levels for sectors such as aircraft, energy and orange juice, tying the move to what he called a "witch hunt" against former President Jair Bolsonaro, a right-wing ally on trial for an alleged coup plot to overturn his 2022 election loss. On their call, Lula and Modi reiterated their goal of boosting bilateral trade to over $20 billion annually by 2030, according to the Brazilian president's office, up from roughly $12 billion last year. Brasilia said they also agreed to expand the reach of the preferential trade agreement between India and the South American trade bloc Mercosur, and discussed the virtual payment platforms of their countries. Modi's office in its statement did not explicitly mention Trump or U.S. tariffs, but said "the two leaders exchanged views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest." India is already signaling it may seek to rebalance its global partnerships after Trump's salvo of tariffs on Indian goods. Modi is preparing for his first visit to China in more than seven years, suggesting a potential diplomatic realignment amid growing tensions with Washington. The Indian leader visited Lula in Brasilia last month. Abu Dhabi launches vertical LPG tank system for food establishments
Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has announced the launch of the first vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank system in the emirate, dedicated to serving food establishments, aiming to enhance safety standards and improve the efficiency of gas supply operations. The new system is a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional gas cylinders. With a capacity of up to 125 gallons, the vertical tank is equipped with a gas evaporator which meets the highest safety standards, besides, it is refilled on-site by licensed operators, eliminating the need for cylinder storage or handling. The system is said to significantly reduces the risk of leaks and accidents while streamlining operational processes, making it an ideal choice for establishments seeking a safer and more sustainable working environment. The DoE issued Technical Bulletin No. (1/2025) to outline the technical requirements, safety standards, and regulatory conditions for the installation and operation of these tanks. The guidelines align with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code. Engineer Ahmed Al Sheibani, Executive Director of the Regulatory Affairs Sector for Petroleum Products, emphasised that this initiative reflects the department's commitment to protecting individuals and property while fostering a safe and sustainable operational environment for the food sector. He highlighted that developing safer systems is a pivotal step toward achieving sustainability and public safety goals. DoE has called on all food establishments, particularly those in areas without underground gas networks or centralized gas systems, to adopt this modern system, which offers a comprehensive and safe solution that meets current and future regulatory requirements, enhances operational safety, and reduces long-term operational costs.
