McCurdy and Ari Katcher (Ramy, Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show) are adapting the book for the small screen and will serve as co-showrunners. The 10-episode series 'will center on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kids' show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as 'a starlet's mother,'' per the logline.

I'm Glad My Mom Died centers around the abuse McCurdy suffered from her mother, but it also recounts the manipulative, inappropriate treatment of child stars at Nickelodeon. Although some have been critical of McCurdy's title, the overall response has been positive. Just one day after its release, McCurdy's memoir sold out at major booksellers, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I'm Glad My Mom Died spent nine weeks on Amazon's best-sellers chart.
In the book, the iCarly star remembers anorexia-inducing body shaming, manipulation through her mother's religion (Mormonism), and falsified paternity — all at the hands of her mom.
'I'm in the ICU with my dying mother,' writes the 30-year-old, 'and the thing that I'm sure will get her to wake up is the fact that in the days since mom's been hospitalized, my fear and sadness have morphed into the perfect anorexia-motivation cocktail and, finally, I have achieved mom's current goal weight for me. Eighty-nine pounds.'
The memoir also delves into the underbelly of Nickelodeon. McCurdy was one of the network's stars in the late oughts and 2010s, playing Sam in iCarly and the show's spin-off, Sam & Cat, with Ariana Grande.
At Nickelodeon, 'The Creator' (who is likely iCarly's creator and producer, Dan Schneider) pressured McCurdy to wear bikinis, drink alcohol before she was of legal drinking age, and massaged her without consent. 'I want to say something, to tell him to stop,' she writes, 'but I'm so scared of offending him.' At one point, McCurdy declined $300,000 in hush money from the network.
McCurdy also details frustrations with Ariana Grande, her co-star on Sam & Cat, who was allowed to ditch filming sessions for other opportunities, while McCurdy was not. 'So I have to turn down movies while Ariana's off whistle-toning at the Billboard Music Awards? Fuck. This,' writes McCurdy.

This trailer gives us a taste of the wit and comedic stylings, whilst also setting up the case and showing our renowned cast tackling the mystery at hand. Judging by this footage, it looks like screenplay writers Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote have preserved the novel's unique, cheeky, and distinctly British sensibility. After 10 years of rumors, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista may finally be signed on to play the villain in Henry Cavill's Highlander remake

Actor Dave Bautista of Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy fame is reportedly nearing taking on the role of the villainous Kurgan in John Wick director Chad Stahelski's upcoming Highlander reboot movie, which stars Henry Cavill in the lead role (via Deadline). Interestingly enough, Bautista has been rumored to be in talks for the role since 2015 - a full 10 years ago - with IGN reporting on the rumor all the way back then when the reboot was scheduled to be directed by Cedric Nicholas Trojan. Did it really take 10 years for Bautista to finally land the role of the Kurgan? Well, it's hard to say. The project has moved around a bit, now landing at Amazon. It's possible Bautista was indeed in negotiations back in 2015 before coming back around to the role in 2025. It's also possible that the current filmmakers were inspired by the long running rumors to actually consider the WWE wrestler turned actor for the movie. The original 1986 Highlander kicked off a franchise centering on the adventures of actor Christopher Lambert's Connor McLeod, an immortal warrior competing to be the last undying swordsman standing in duels that only end when one combatant's head is lopped off. The Kurgan, originally played by eternally menacing character actor Clancy Brown, is the main antagonist of the classic Highlander film, slicing, dicing, and ravaging his way through the film on a collision course with MacLeod. Former Superman actor Henry Cavill will star as Connor MacLoed in the remake, with Russell Crowe also rumored to star, potentially as MacLeod's mentor Ramirez, played by Sean Connery in the original film. The Way Way Back is a little reliant on clichés, but those clichés exist for a reason. Better Man (2024) If you know what Better Man is about, you might be justified in thinking the movie is not for you. In spite of all that, Better Man is a remarkably confident, assured musical, a film about the perils of fame and stardom and the vices that go along with it. More than anything, Better Man is worth watching because of Williams' music, and director Michael Gracey brings it to life with a remarkable degree of vision. You can watch Better Man on Amazon Prime Video. Thief (1981) Michael Mann's debut feature is indicative of the style that he would bring to his entire career. The movie follows Frank (James Caan), a highly skilled professional thief who treats his work like a job. Frank wants to walk away after one big job, but when the person he works for won't let him go, he's forced to fight for his right to a quiet life. It's a familiar story brought to life by Mann, Tangerine Dream, and James Caan. Thief is a remarkably confident, tense first feature. It remains one of the best movies of the 1980s.
