Traffic police get fleet of 25 motorcycles
As part of it, District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad formally handed over the vehicles to City Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi on Saturday in the presence of executive director M. Ravindranath and Head-HR and Admin of AMNS India Pvt Ltd DS. Varma.
Appreciating the company's continued support to the district administration in various aspects like education, health and environment, district collector MN Harendhira Prasad said that the initiative would motivate the traffic police for effective traffic control.
The Commissioner of Police said the traffic motorcycles provided last year helped the police and paved the way for effective traffic control. The new motorcycles provided will be handy in reaching out to more areas.
In 2024 also, AMNS India has provided 32 motorcycles and one towing vehicle to the city traffic police. In addition to the above, various activities have been taken up by AMNS like construction of BC Hostel Building, execution of 265-kw solar power projects at King George Hospital, Government Victoria Hospital, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park and at various educational institutions in the city.
Next, the company plans to take up 297-kW solar power projects in the year 2025 at various government hospitals like Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences, Government Hospital for Mental Care, Rani Chandramani Devi Hospital and at various educational institutions in Visakhapatnam.

Mangaluru: Build the trust through wealth, stage legal formalities and then vanish after collecting crores, this is how a 45-year-old Mangaluru man conned several businessmen and industrialists. All of his secret hideouts were revealed after Mangaluru Police went to his luxurious home for a raid. In an operation that has stunned investigators, the police has now arrested Rohan Saldanha, who ran a multi-crore scam by luring businessmen and industrialists with the promise of large loans at incredibly low interest rates. Saldanha would pose as a high-level financier and used his lavish bungalow in Mangaluru's Jappinamogaru to create an illusion of power, success, and trust. Who Were His Targets Ultra-rich individuals and entrepreneurs across districts and states. What Was His Strategy Saldanha would invite prospective clients to his luxurious home and office. Once the trust was built, he would offer to arrange loans for even 100 crores and more. To make the operation look genuine, he would go a step further and introduced a fake lawyer with the name of a popular lawyer from the region and would make people speak to the lawyer for verification of documents and other legal formalities. He would then ask the people to pay money for registration and stamp duty. This ran into crores and in some instances, he even took Rs 10 crore. After collecting the money, Saldanha would disappear without a trace, leaving his victims shocked and defrauded. Police, while searching his bungalow, uncovered more than just expensive interiors. His home included cleverly concealed sections and hideouts, a design seemingly intended to aid sudden disappearances and long stays out of public view. Officers said that the closets and wardrobes led to concealed areas, allowing him to remain undetected during critical times. Investigators believe this setup allowed him to stall or evade suspicious clients, unexpected visitors, or even law enforcement, buying time to escape or cut contact. Within just a few months, the accused is said to have executed fraudulent transactions worth Rs 40-50 crore. But over several years, the total estimated fraud could be much more. So far, police has registered three official cases, two in Mangaluru and one in Chitradurga against him. Authorities suspect there might be several more victims who haven't yet reported the fraud due to embarrassment or fear. Following a complaint by one of the victims, Mangaluru Police arrested Rohan Saldanha and are now expanding their investigation to trace the full scale of his operations. The police is also probing potential accomplices and are urging others who were duped to come forward.

AM/NS India commissions India's first high-strength galvanising line at Hazira
New Delhi: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India ( AM/NS India ) has commissioned a new Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL) at its integrated steel plant in Hazira, Gujarat, becoming the first company in the country with a facility capable of producing Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) with strength levels up to 1180 megapascals (MPa). The development is part of the company's ongoing ₹60,000 crore expansion project aimed at scaling up its upstream and downstream production capacity. The expansion project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022 and targets increasing the Hazira plant's capacity from the current 9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 15 MTPA, with a future goal of reaching 24 MTPA. The new CGL is designed to manufacture Galvanised (GI) and Galvannealed (GA) coated flat steels, including licensed products from parent companies ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel. These products are aimed at meeting the demand for high-formability and high-strength materials in the domestic automotive industry, especially in view of India's Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) Phase III norms coming into effect from April 2027. "The commissioning of the first-of-its-kind Continuous Galvanising Line marks another defining moment in our expansion project, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. This ambitious project's efforts are now coming to fruition, and we can proudly say that the new line and upcoming facilities are designed to produce steel that matches the quality of offerings currently available in developed nations," said Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer, AM/NS India. "With the constant support from our parent companies, we have set new benchmarks and further strengthened our ability to deliver world-class products, including the highest-strength steel ever produced in India to meet the evolving needs of the automotive sector. Indigenous production from this unique line will contribute meaningfully towards the country's self-reliance goal,' he added. The new line incorporates environmental technologies including waste heat recovery, advanced thermal energy control, regenerative electrical drives and the use of electrolytic hydrogen. These are expected to reduce CO₂ emissions intensity in line with India's Green Steel Taxonomy and sustainability goals. In addition to Hazira, the company is also progressing plans for new integrated steel plants in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Land acquisition has commenced in Andhra Pradesh, while planning for the Odisha project is underway. The company said the commissioning strengthens its downstream capacity for value-added steel products and helps reduce reliance on imports of high-grade steel. The facility also supports India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and other initiatives to promote domestic manufacturing of specialised steel products.
