Bride Refused to Invite Her Dad's New Girlfriend to Her Destination Wedding, So He Flew Her In and Asked Again

A Mumsnet user shared that she does not want her dad's girlfriend, whom she's never met, to attend her wedding
Despite repeatedly telling him that she's not invited, the dad still flew to the destination wedding city with his girlfriend
The future newlywed is now wondering, 'Am I being unreasonable for thinking it's not my fault she traveled halfway around the world for a wedding she's not invited to?'A bride-to-be feels like a broken record after repeatedly telling her dad that she doesn't want him to bring his girlfriend to her wedding.
The bride detailed her frustrations on the U.K. community forum Mumsnet, where she explained that her dad once again asked if his girlfriend could come — this time after he already flew her out to the destination wedding.
'My parents are very acrimoniously separated, and my dad has a new partner,' the future newlywed wrote. 'They are still in the throes of an awful divorce, and my five siblings and I are stuck in the middle.'
'I initially told him that she cannot come, and that's been clear from the outset, as I'm not comfortable with it and we've not met,' she added.
Despite the firm no, the dad mentioned that he would still be flying to the unnamed wedding city with his girlfriend.
'I said how nice and reiterated that she was not invited, so it has been clear throughout,' the bride said of her unchanged response.
'Dad has just asked again if she can come, and again I've said no,' she continued. 'He's said he understands but that she is hurt because she's come all this way.'

Wondering if she's in the wrong for putting her foot down, the bride-to-be asked, 'Am I being unreasonable for thinking it's not my fault she traveled halfway around the world for a wedding she's not invited to?'
In a Mumsnet poll under her post, 94 percent of the more than 2,000 voters selected 'You are NOT being unreasonable' as their option.
'You have been clear, and he decided he'd strong arm you into doing his will by presenting you this option,' one reader commented. 'He shouldn't have brought her. I'd be telling him if he doesn't back off he won't be invited either. I can only imagine why your mother left him and this is perhaps an example of his behavior of why.'
Most Mumsnet users agreed, with one replying, 'Tell him not to mention her again in conjunction with your wedding. You have made yourself crystal clear. How selfish of him to be hassling you like this. Awful behavior.'

Nothing Headphone 1 to Launch Alongside Nothing Phone 3

July is going to be a big month for British tech company Nothing, which is not only launching its "first true flagship," the Nothing Phone 3, but will also unveil a new audio product, the Nothing Headphone 1. Headphone 1 is due to launch on July 1, said Nothing Founder and CEO Carl Pei speaking on stage at SXSW London on Thursday. "It's our first over-the-head headphones," he said. "A lot of our users have been asking for it." Audio is hardly a new category for Nothing. In fact the company's first foray into the hardware world was with the Nothing Ear 1, earbuds that captured out attention with their striking transparent design. The company's focus on design is "a necessity," said Pei as the company was late to market and needed a way to differentiate itself. "We call it technical warmth," he said, describing Nothing's design language. "At first glance, these parts look really mechanical, [but] once you dig a little bit deeper, there's a lot of fun elements." Pei also gave a hint into what we can expect for the company in the next five years. "The smartphone is the most important product today, but that doesn't mean it's going to be the most important product forever," he said. He's interested in seeing what new form factors tech companies are bringing to market, but would ideally like Nothing to be the company that finds the killer next tech product.

8 Kitten Heel And Capri Pant Combinations To Wear On Repeat This Summer

A quick glance around the ELLE UK office or at any fashion girlie worth her salt's TikTok FYP for proof - capri pants paired with cute little kitten heels is the outfit recipe of summer 2025. Like bloomer pants and ballet flats, or mesh shoes and midi skirts before it, capri pants and kitten heels is a style combination so reliable, we are becoming convinced we need more than one iteration of it. FIND OUT MORE ON ELLE COLLECTIVE The capri pant, or pedal pusher, resurgence has been bubbling for a couple of summers now. Inspired by the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Sex And The City's fictional lead Carrie Bradshaw everyone from Alexa Chung and Amy Brewster, ELLE UK's own head of social is trying the trend in 2025. However, the trouble with these three-quarter-length trousers is knowing exactly what shoes to wear them with. Thanks to their cheeky calf-lengths boots, trainers and probably loafers too are off the menu. While they can look cute with ballet flats and generic sandals, it's kitten heeled mules which work the best, thanks to their leg lengthening properties. To take all the guesswork out of getting dressed we've put together eight capri pants and kitten heel combinations for you. You're welcome. If it all feels a little intimidating, your gateway capris should likely be a simple, dare we say chic, black legging style. The more paired-back bottom means you can be a little more daring with your heel choice - channel Sabrina Carpenter with these edgy, pin-up styles. For those ready to graduate to a more challenging look, we've got some denim, gingham, polkadot and even cargo styles. You can decide if you're going to pull it back with some more subdued heels, or go full throttle and clash away. Whatever bottom half combination you opt for, there's one top (pun intended) choice when it comes to deciding what to wear on your upper half: the humble button-down shirt. Our favourite has to be the poplin 'The Boyfriend' shirt from With Nothing Underneath, but if you head down to your local charity shop you're sure to find a cotton men's shirt that will work a treat. The Very Gay Life of Edmund White

Edmund White might have invented the unapologetic queer on the page. At least he did for me. Nothing coded gay, vaguely tragic; nothing furtive or metaphorical or obscured behind the billowing curtains of literary flounciness. I can still recall the thrill of spotting the cover of his 1983 novel 'A Boy's Own Story' in a rotating rack of paperbacks in a bookstore in my dull, conservative hometown, Marlborough, England. I must have been about 15. It was the mid-1980s, the thick of the AIDS plague, and gay men were being cast as vectors of their own destruction. It was a complicated time to be thinking about coming out. But here was a novel with a boy on the cover who looked close to my age, his thick glossy hair gently ruffled by the wind, his lips plump, his jaw strong. His tank top revealed the slope of his shoulders, the contours of his biceps. I'd never seen a cover or read a book that spoke to me like that. The fact that a gay teenager could exist in fiction blew my mind. The fact that one, like me, could exist in the world did, too. 'A Boy's Own Story' was daring not just because it placed a queer adolescent at its center, but also because it did so with sophistication, introspection and horniness. The narrator — clearly, as with all of his narrators, based on him — is vividly real. Ed White and I were later to become friends, when I had moved to New York and was editing Out magazine. This was not a surprise: Ed, who died on Tuesday at 85, was always very open to meeting young literary men. He was a raconteur and had stories for miles. I lapped them up. We all did. Talking frankly about sex was a hallmark of his writing.(Among his many nonfiction works was 'The Joy of Gay Sex,' a sex manual he co-wrote in 1977.) He always saw himself as a gay writer for gay readers, the distinction he drew between his generation of queer writers and those who came earlier, like Gore Vidal and James Baldwin. They might write gay characters, but they never seemed to be writing for gay readers. Ed was. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
