Three Chinese nationals arrested for burglary in Kuala Perlis
Kangar district police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop stated that authorities received a report at 11.38 pm from a man who discovered his uncle's home had been ransacked. 'Initial investigations revealed signs of forced entry at the back door. CCTV footage confirmed three individuals entering the property and taking valuables,' he said in a statement.
Among the stolen items were jewellery worth RM1,200, RM2,500 in cash from a safe, and an additional RM357 from a cupboard drawer. The Kangar Criminal Investigation Division and Perlis police forensic team examined the scene for further evidence.
Earlier that evening, at 10.10 pm, villagers detained the suspects after spotting them near the house. Police later rearrested them with assistance from the Kuala Perlis task force. 'The suspects, who had valid travel documents, had been in Malaysia for less than a week, reportedly seeking employment as cooks,' Yusharifuddin added.
Authorities seized cash and jewellery believed to belong to the victims. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. Magistrate Nurshahida Abdul Rahim granted a six-day remand for the suspects starting today. - Bernama

Three Charged With Arranging To Smuggle Sri Lankan National Via KLIA
KLANG, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Three individuals, including a woman, were brought before the Sessions Court here today to face a charge of arranging the smuggling of a Sri Lankan national last month. The accused, G. Santhiya Darshini, 27, and Janarthanan Appupillai, 46, both Malaysians, along with Vtheewaran Palani, 48, a Sri Lankan citizen, nodded to indicate they understood the charge after it was read to them in Tamil before Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The trio is accused of jointly arranging the smuggling of a Sri Lankan migrant in transit via air through Terminal 1 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on July 10. They were charged under Section 26C of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years' imprisonment and a fine, or both, upon conviction. At the same court, a Sri Lankan national, Antany Sujan Antany Ranjan, 21, was charged with possessing a fake passport in another person's name to facilitate migrant smuggling at the KLIA international departure gate at 10.25 pm on July 10. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. He was charged under Section 26E of the ATIPSOM Act, which carries a sentence of between seven and 15 years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500,000, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutors Anisah Pisol and Norhidayah Abdullah Sani did not offer bail for any of the accused and requested that the cases be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.

[UPDATED] RTD operation leads to discovery of fake licence, MyKad syndicate
KUALA LUMPUR: A Road Transport Department (RTD) operation targeting foreigners driving heavy vehicles has uncovered what is believed to be a syndicate selling fake driver's licences and identification documents. RTD senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the discovery was made when enforcement officers stopped a lorry, driven by a foreigner, along the Middle Ring Road 2 near Selayang at about 5.30pm. "The driver, believed to be 40, handed over his driver's licence, MyKad, and goods driver's licence for inspection. "Our officers immediately noticed discrepancies in the documents. "The font used differed slightly from those on genuine documents, raising suspicion," he told reporters at the Gombak RTD Enforcement Station today. He said the driver was questioned for some time before he admitted that he was actually a passport holder. "Our personnel were conducting further checks on the documents when he suddenly fled into the nearby jungle. "We believe this man had purchased these documents from a syndicate," he said, adding that further investigations and intelligence gathering are underway to identify those behind the operation. During today's operation, Kifli said officers also detained another foreign driver after stopping a trailer truck near Sungai Pusu, Gombak. "The driver, in his 40s, did not have any documents on him. "We detained him and handed him over to the Immigration Department for further action as he was believed to have overstayed," he said. Kifli said it was high time companies exercised greater accountability and responsibility. "Why can't these companies hire locals who have the relevant documents in order to operate these vehicles legally? "Based on our checks, these foreigners were paid at least RM2,500," he said, adding that the drivers were believed to have been hired to operate vehicles transporting waste and construction equipment.
