All the suspects have been arrested, police said. Kedah police chief Comm Adzli Abu Shah said Kpl Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, died at the scene after he was struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with the suspects on board. "At 3.30pm on Thursday (Aug 7), we received a tip-off about a suspected house burglary. "A team of five officers and personnel from the Kedah police contingent's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) went to the location in two vehicles. "Upon arrival, the victim, who had just stepped out of his car, was rammed by the suspects, who were fleeing. "He sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene,' he told reporters when met at the scene late Thursday. A suspect was arrested at the scene, he said, while three others fled in the SUV but were later caught in Kepala Batas near here after they hijacked a couple's vehicle at a hotel. "They forcibly removed the driver and drove off with his wife still in the front passenger seat. "The vehicle was later involved in an accident in Kepala Batas, where we successfully apprehended all remaining suspects in the surrounding area,' he said. The suspects, aged 24 to 26, are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 457 for housebreaking. Cop killed in line of duty during burglary, suspects nabbed

ALOR STAR: A policeman was killed in the line of duty today after he was run over by a fleeing burglary suspect at Taman Golf here. Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, from the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department (CID), died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle driven by one of the suspects, who was attempting to steal a metal safe from the house. Kedah police chief Commissioner Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the incident occurred at about 3.30pm following a tip-off regarding suspicious activity at the premises. "Acting on the information, a team of five CID policemen in two vehicles was dispatched to the location. "Upon arrival, our men encountered the suspects in the act. "One of them, who was behind the wheel of a Lexus, accelerated and rammed into our policeman just as he exited his vehicle. "He was run over and died at the scene. "This is a tragic loss for the police force, especially for us in Kedah," he said when met at the scene. Adzli said one of the suspects was arrested on-site, while three others fled in the Lexus, which sustained damage during the collision. "The group was tracked to Kepala Batas in Jitra and detained within an hour. "The suspects even stole another car during their escape. "However, all four have been arrested," he said. The suspects, aged between 24 and 26, are believed to be from Johor. Police checks revealed one had 77 prior offences, mostly for house break-ins and car theft, while another had 30. The other two had six and two past offences, respectively. "They appear to be part of a mobile burglary syndicate operating across state borders. "We are working closely with other contingents, including Johor, to determine whether this was a random strike or a job based on insider information," he said. Investigators found clear signs of forced entry at the house, including broken locks and a pried-open door. No one was home during the incident. "All vehicles involved, including the Lexus used to run over our officer and the second vehicle stolen during the escape, have been recovered," Adzli said. Mohd Hafizul, a native of Setiu, Terengganu, is survived by his wife and four children aged four, nine, and 11. Arrangements are being made for his burial. "He died while carrying out his duties. His death is a tremendous loss to the force. We will ensure justice is served," said Adzli. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking. Adzli also urged the public not to speculate on the case, particularly about the targeted home or the officer's family. "My officers or I will provide updates should there be any new developments," he said.

Three Chinese nationals arrested for burglary in Kuala Perlis

KANGAR: Three Chinese nationals were arrested in connection with a burglary at a residence in Taman Bukit Kubu Phase 2, Kuala Perlis. The suspects, aged between 38 and 54, allegedly broke into the house and stole valuables worth approximately RM4,000. Kangar district police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop stated that authorities received a report at 11.38 pm from a man who discovered his uncle's home had been ransacked. 'Initial investigations revealed signs of forced entry at the back door. CCTV footage confirmed three individuals entering the property and taking valuables,' he said in a statement. Among the stolen items were jewellery worth RM1,200, RM2,500 in cash from a safe, and an additional RM357 from a cupboard drawer. The Kangar Criminal Investigation Division and Perlis police forensic team examined the scene for further evidence. Earlier that evening, at 10.10 pm, villagers detained the suspects after spotting them near the house. Police later rearrested them with assistance from the Kuala Perlis task force. 'The suspects, who had valid travel documents, had been in Malaysia for less than a week, reportedly seeking employment as cooks,' Yusharifuddin added. Authorities seized cash and jewellery believed to belong to the victims. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. Magistrate Nurshahida Abdul Rahim granted a six-day remand for the suspects starting today. - Bernama
