Nets full Group Play schedule for 2025 NBA Cup released

USA Todaya day ago
The Brooklyn Nets head into the 2025-26 NBA season knowing who they will be playing in the preseason along with knowing that they will not be playing on days like Opening Night, for example. Brooklyn won't know their full schedule until Thursday when the NBA will release the entirety of the schedule, but they at least know what their 2025 Emirates NBA Cup slate looks like.
The NBA released the schedule for the NBA Cup and the Nets now know when they will be playing all of their opponents within East Group B bracket. Brooklyn will be in the same group as the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, and Philadelphia 76ers and will most likely have to win at least three of the four matchups if they want to advance to the single-elimination Knockout Rounds.
According to the NBA, eight teams advance to the Knockout Rounds based on "the team with the best standing in Group Play games in each of the six groups and one 'wild card' team from each conference. The wild card will be the team from each conference with the best record in Group Play games that finished second in its group."
At best, the Nets will have to finish with at least the second-best record in the group if they want to advance to the Knockout stage where they could compete for a chance for a prize pool. Last season, Brooklyn finished with a 1-3 record while playing in the same group as the 76ers and Magic while also having to face the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets.
The Nets could have a better shot of emerging from Group B with a winning record as the Celtics are expected to take a step back with the Achilles injury to superstar forward Jayson Tatum. More to the point, the Pistons, Magic, and 76ers were sixth or worse in the Eastern Conference even though Philadelphia should be a much better team as long as center Joel Embiid and forward Paul George are healthy.
Here is the Nets' schedule for NBA Cup Group Play during the 2025-25 campaign:
Vs. Detroit Pistons
At Orlando Magic
At Boston Celtics
Vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Nick Nurse provides update on recovering Sixers star Joel Embiid

The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking for superstar big man Joel Embiid to be ready for when training camp begins some time in late September/early October. The big fella underwent left knee surgery in April as he looks to recover and bounce back from a season in which he played only 19 games. The Sixers will go as far as Embiid takes them. While Tyrese Maxey and Paul George are, obviously, talented players, they will need the 2023 MVP winner to be the one to step up and produce when the time calls for it. Therefore, his recovery is the most important thing for Philadelphia. Coach Nick Nurse spoke with Talk Sport and gave an update on Embiid: "All the news is positive," Nurse exclusively told talkSPORT on Tuesday at the NBA's Basketball Without Borders Europe camp in Manchester. "I know he's working very, very hard and I think things look good. "Whether he's ready for training camp or not, I think there's maybe a lot more decisions than that to make before we get there. "But our main thing is that he's healthy to play and play to his nearest capabilities, because he's awesome, no doubt about that." The Sixers will hope that Embiid is ready to go and give Philadelphia the superstar leadership that he provides in this upcoming season. If he is healthy, then the Sixers will have a fantastic chance to win the Eastern Conference. If he isn't, then they will have a tough time getting back to contender status. He is that phenomenal on the floor.

Is 2025 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard ready to start for the Boston Celtics?

Is 2025 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard ready to start for the Boston Celtics next season? There have been reports out there suggesting that the Celtics floor general has garnered the role this coming 2025-26 NBA regular season, edging out new arrival Anfernee Simons for the job, despite Simons having that role in his former home with the Portland Trail Blazers. Does it make sense for Pritchard to start for Boston next season, or would it make more sense to showcase a player the Celtics are reportedly trying to trade before the 2026 deadline. One person who knows what it is like to man the point for Boston is Celtics floor general alum Jeff Teague, who took some time on a recent episode of his "Club 520" podcast to talk over whether he thinks Fast PP is up for the challenge. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say about Pritchard at the point in a starting role next season. Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:

'NBA 2K' has a fascinating WNBA integration coming

The upcoming version of NBA 2K will try something for the first time and it is incredibly exciting for folks who are fans of men's and women's hoops. For fans who play MyTEAM on NBA 2K26 when it comes out, they'll have the opportunity to collect WNBA Player Cards for the first time. They can pair both current and historic WNBA stars with current and historic NBA players on the same team. The press release announced that players can "mix and match" stars from both league and gave examples like pairing Paige Bueckers and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or throwing a lob from Sheryl Swoopes to Shaquille O'Neal. 'MyTEAM is where competition meets a basketball fan's wildest imagination,' said Erick Boenisch, VP of NBA Development at Visual Concepts. 'By integrating the WNBA into one of our most popular modes, we're not only giving players the opportunity to customize their all-time dream rosters but shining a spotlight on some of the game's most iconic hoopers. We're looking forward to giving our players a new and deeper way to engage with the WNBA. But there is so much more coming to MyTEAM this year - from All-Star Team-Up to new weekly cash prizes in King of the Court, there have never been more ways to compete with friends and win big.' Per the release, attributes and badges function identically for WNBA and NBA players to ensure "balanced, consistent" gameplay. More: NBA 2K26 new rebound timer is an example of the game's larger problem You can watch the trailer, narrated by Buckers, above. Her avatar is wearing a Dallas Mavericks jersey and later, she is featured playing alongside Cooper Flagg. The trailer also features Reese and Shaq, who both played for LSU, wearing WNBA's Chicago Sky uniforms. Luka Dončić is seen playing alongside Brittney Griner. This is a lot of fun, and while it is currently only part of MyTEAM and not Play Now, it is still a really cool idea that should make for some awesome moments.
