Alia Bhatt's ex-personal assistant Vedika Prakash Shetty arrested for fraud, siphoning Rs 77 lakh by forging actor's signature

Indian Express09-07-2025
Six months after a complaint of fraud and forgery was filed against Alia Bhatt's former personal assistant Vedika Prakash Shetty, the accused has been arrested on Tuesday by Juhu Police in Bengaluru. She's been produced before the Bandra Magistrate, which remanded her to police custody till Thursday.
In January, Alia's mother, veteran actor Soni Razdan, had approached the Juhu police to file a complaint against Shetty, who was employed with Alia from 2021 till last year. The 32-year-old allegedly forged Alia's signature on documents in order to siphon funds from the actor's personal accounts as well as those of her production house, Eternal Sunshine Productions.
As per a Hindustan Times report, Shetty routed the funds to her friend's account, who then reversed it to Shetty's personal account. While the said friend hasn't kept any money with them, they're also being questioned by the Juhu police in order to recover the stolen money. Shetty had been absconding for months and her location was finally traced down to Bengaluru by Juhu police.
Alia and her sister, author Shaheen Bhatt, started their production house in 2022. They co-produced Jasmeet K Reen's black comedy Darlings, which also starred Alia, along with Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, which released in 2022 on Netflix India. The film also starred Vijay Varma, Shefali Shah, and Roshan Mathew.
Alia next co-produced Vasan Bala's escape thriller Jigra last year, along with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The film, which also starred Alia, Manoj Pahwa, Vedang Raina, and Vivek Gomber, released in cinemas, but didn't work wonders at the box office. Alia also lent might to Richie Mehta's thriller series Poacher, which released on Prime Video India last year.

On the acting front, Alia will be next seen in Shiv Rawail's spy thriller Alpha, which is a part of the YRF Spy Universe conceptualized by Aditya Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films. The film, also starring Sharvari, is slated to release in cinemas this Christmas on December 25. Along with Alpha, Alia will also star opposite her real-life husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic drama Love & War next year.

71st National Film Awards: Shah Rukh Khan's First Best Actor Win Is Historic, Says Ashutosh Gowariker

New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Friday was announced the best actor (male) at the 71st National Film Awards for his work in the 2023 action thriller Jawan. This is his first National Award in the acting category in 33 years of his career in films. He shared the award with Vikrant Massey, who was recognised for his performance in the social drama 12th Fail. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who serves as the chairperson of the Feature Film Jury of the 71st National Awards, said he feels amazing that Shah Rukh Khan finally won the award after so many years in showbiz. Ashutosh Gowariker, director of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Swades (2004), told NDTV after the press briefing of the awards, "It's amazing. It's quite historic that one of the biggest stars of India and Indian cinema after such a long, prolific career, has got an award for best acting at the National Film Awards in a year when he had three films. Him getting the award for Jawan is great because he has played a double role in that." In Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan played the double role of Indian Army officer Vikram Rathore and his son Azaad. The film, which earned over Rs 1,600 crore at the global box office, marked the actor's first film with Tamil cinema director Atlee. But why did the jury decide to award Shah Rukh for Jawan, not Pathaan or Dunki, since all three films released in the same year? Ashutosh Gowariker told NDTV, "That's again a jury's decision, as to what appeals to the jury together, which film should we select to represent the performance. So, Jawan was an easy and a unanimous choice." The filmmaker also said he had a "wonderful" time serving on the jury. "I have never been part of the jury. The National Film Awards are the country's greatest awards and to be selected as the chairperson of the jury is a great honour. It has been quite a ride to watch all these films and select," he added. Jawan followed a man's journey to uproot corruption from the country with the help of an all-woman team. It starred Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles, with performances by Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Lehar Khan, and Aaliyah Qureishi. The film was also produced by Shah Rukh Khan's production company Red Chillies Entertainment.

Dhadak 2 box office collection day 1: Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri film fails to beat Yudhra opening

Dhadak 2 box office collection day 1: Shazia Iqbal's Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri-starrer Dhadak 2 released in theatres this Friday. The remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal is a spiritual sequel to the 2018 Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Dhadak. According to Sacnilk, the film made ₹2.94 crore net in India on its opening day. Dhadak 2 box office collection day 1: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri star in the film produced by Karan Johar.(PTI) Dhadak 2 box office collection According to the trade website, Dhadak 2 made an estimated ₹2.94 crore net in India on its opening day. This means the film failed to beat Siddhant's previous film, Yudhra's opening, which had made ₹4.5 crore net. Triptii's previous film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, had collected ₹35.5 crore. Dhadak 2 had registered an occupancy of only 19.78% and it remains to be seen if things pick up this weekend. About Dhadak 2 Dhadak 2 tells the tale of a law student who falls for his classmate, only for her family to harass him due to caste differences. Talking about how the film deals with a sensitive subject, Siddhant told PTI, 'It is a huge responsibility... A lot of the credit goes to our director, who from day one was very sure of what she wanted and how she wanted to tell the story, how the characters should be, she didn't want to over-dramatise anything or oversimplify anything. She just wanted things to be as they are in reality.' Hindustan Times' review of Dhadak 2 reads, 'The biggest problem with Dhadak 2 is that it takes too long to figure out what it wants to be. And when it finally does, it struggles to stay consistent. The first half drags, focusing almost entirely on the love story. The writing (by Shazia Iqbal and Rahul Badwelkar) tries hard to convince us of the chemistry between the leads, but it never feels natural.'
