Ignored for ministerial post as I am from Maratha community: NCP MLA
Speaking to reporters in Beed on Sunday, the four-time MLA from Majalgaon also claimed Marathas have been the Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) strength in Beed district, but they are ignored when it comes to giving a cabinet or guardian minister post to a member from the community.
He was responding to a question on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP head Ajit Pawar on Friday saying party leader and former minister Dhananjay Munde will be given an "opportunity" if he is absolved in an "inquiry" against him.
Pawar was apparently referring to the last year's Beed sarpanch murder case following which Munde, the MLA from Parli in Beed, had to quit the Devendra Fadnavis government in March this year.
Notably, Marathas, under the leadership of activist Manoj Jarange, have been agitating for reservation in government jobs and education under the Other Backwards Classes (OBC) quota.
Asked about the speculation of Munde's return to the cabinet, Solanke claimed, "Leaders like (NCP-SP chief) Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar have always given priority to the OBC community in Beed district. The Maratha community has been an NCP supporter in Beed. But OBCs and backward communities were given preference in Beed district in the past 45 years."
This is due to the party's policy of following the ideology of (social reformers) Jyotirao Phule, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj and BR Ambedkar, he said.

Why Maharashtra BJP has opened arms to take back a 90-yr-old leader, barbs and all
Senior leader Annasaheb Dange's return to the BJP after two decades has given the Maharashtra unit a big boost, with leaders saying he could guide the organisation. The 90-year-old, who had left the BJP in 2002 after complaining of being 'sidelined' within the party, is part of an older generation of party leaders with a strong connection to the ground, having worked with the Jana Sangh and then built the party. His compatriots talk of him cycling several miles every day to reach out to people and recruit them. In the 80s, when the BJP was just growing, party ideologue Vasantrao Bhagwat conceptualised the MADHAV strategy – acronym in Marathi for the Mali, Dhangar and Vanjari OBC communities – to create a base for the organisation. The Congress was virtually unchallenged in Maharashtra till then, with its firm support base among the Marathas, Dalits and tribals. However, soon, the MADHAV framework paid off. Along with Gopinath Munde, Suryabhan Wahadne, N S Pharande, Dange took centre stage in state politics and spread the BJP's message. It helped that all these leaders were from OBC communities, with Dhange belonging to the Dhangar community himself. The BJP came to power in Maharashtra for the first time in 1995-1999 in alliance with the Shiv Sena. Dange was made Cabinet minister and allocated the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj ministries. In the 1999 Assembly polls, the Sena-BJP alliance lost, and a Congress-NCP government led by Vilasrao Deshmukh came to power. Things within the BJP soured sometime in the early 2000s for Dange, when he was denied an MLC ticket and was not accommodated in any other post. He alleged then that this was due to centralisation of power in Munde and Mahajan's hands. In 2002, Dange left the BJP and, two years later, floated an outfit called the Lokrajya Party. However, it failed to have any presence in the state. Dange joined the NCP in 2011 and was made NCP vice-president. When the NCP split into two factions in 2023, Dange remained with Sharad Pawar. But that did not amount to a larger political role and Dange largely remained on the sidelines. Sources said Pawar was not inclined to give Dange a key position as he felt the leader was losing his relevance. The NCP (SP) has been struggling to find its footing, and the BJP has been keeping its doors open for everyone including the old guard. This made Dange's return to the BJP smooth. A senior BJP functionary said, 'At this stage of his life, Dange is not seeking any political post in the party or government. He already has many educational institutions including medical, engineering colleges in Sangli district.' The BJP believes that Dange's return would also send out a positive signal to the Dhangar community, which is a sizeable population in at least 40 Assembly constituencies located in West and North Maharashtra and in Vidarbha. Commenting on his return, Dange said Wednesday, 'I feel fortunate to return.' However, his outspoken nature was still on display as he joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Recalling the circumstances that led to his resignation, Dange said: 'Back then, someone asked Atal Bihari Vajpayee who would be his political successor. In response Vajpayee named Pramod Mahajan among other leaders. Mahajan thought that if he were to assume an important role at the Centre, his brother-in-law Munde should become CM of Maharashtra. After that, I started getting secondary treatment in the party.' He said then Sena supremo Bal Thackeray was also 'fond' of Mahajan. ' A section within the BJP feared my rise due to this too.' Fadnavis quickly rebuffed this, and said it was 'just a case of misunderstanding'. 'We are glad to have a senior leader like Dange in the party. He made a huge contribution towards the growth of the party. He left due to some misunderstanding. Now, we seek his blessings and guidance. In a way, we have come to him and not vice-versa.' A senior BJP leader said that the reality of the '90s BJP was entirely different. 'The role of Pramod Mahajan and Gopinath Munde cannot be overlooked. While Mahajan was a strategist, Munde was a mass leader. Being top leaders they took centre stage. All those whose aspirations were not met attacked them.'

2 Samajwadi Party leaders booked over PDA Pathshala, school merger protest
An FIR was registered against Samajwadi Party leader Rachna Singh Gautam on Friday for allegedly conducting an unauthorised 'PDA Pathshala' (classroom) outside a government primary school at Shahampur Garhi village in Bilhaur development block of Kanpur. A PDA Pathshala started by SP in Uttar Pradesh. (SOURCED) Police have also registered a case against a Samajwadi Party leader and a dozen people in Bhadohi for allegedly involving schoolchildren in protest against the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to merge schools with low enrolment, officials said. The 'PDA Pathshala' in Bilhaur violated multiple regulations, including provisions under the IT Act and the Right to Education (RTE) Act, officials said. Gautam supposedly held such 'classes' in other villages as well. Gautam organised the 'pathshala' without prior approval from local authorities, and continued with the programme despite objections from the school administration, according to the complaint of the block education officer (BEO). Children were allegedly taught political slogans and references associated with the SP's PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) campaign in the 'pathshala' held in the vicinity of a government school. BEO Ravi Kumar Singh confirmed that photographs and videos of the event had been submitted to the district administration. In the visuals, students are seen reciting phrases linked to the SP, while some videos also allegedly show incorrect basic educational content being taught. These materials were circulated on social media by Gautam herself, Singh said. The BEO said, 'Running such parallel educational setups without any official recognition or permission is illegal. No arrangement can operate alongside a government institution without due process. What was done here is unauthorised.' Kanpur's additional DCP West Kapil Dev Singh stated that a case had been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act. 'The matter is under investigation,' he said. The FIR includes charges related to misuse of a government facility, spreading misinformation, and political exploitation of children. In a statement, Gautam alleged that the FIR was politically motivated. 'The government is trying to silence voices who are working for marginalised children. I will continue holding such classes. The closure of schools affects the PDA children the most,' she said. In Bhadohi, district magistrate Shailesh Kumar said 40 students of the primary school in Sikandra village under Aurai block were shifted to a vacant anganwadi centre in nearby Pilkhani village -- around 800 metres away -- with the consent of their parents. He said local Samajwadi Party leader Anjani Saroj, along with her supporters, visited the anganwadi centre on Wednesday and distributed pencils, erasers and other items to the children. Later, she allegedly lured the students with toffees, handed them banners and posters and led them in a protest march back to the Sikandra primary school. The matter was probed by the chief development officer and the sub-divisional magistrate, following which the school's headmaster lodged a complaint with the Chauri police station, the DM said. A case was registered against Saroj and others on Thursday evening, officials said. In view of the alleged negligence in the matter, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against Ramakant Singroul, assistant education officer of Aurai, he added. Station house officer of Chauri, Ramesh Kumar, said a case has been lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint by headmaster Sabhajit Yadav. (With agencies)

Decision to shift Kokate was jointly decided with both dyCMs: Fadnavis
1 2 Nagpur: The decision to shift agriculture minister and NCP(Ajit) MLA Manikrao Kokate on Thursday over 'rummy-in-the-House-row' and assigned sports and youth welfare, minority development and waqf portfolio, was taken jointly after a discussion with deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar , CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday. He termed it as a move to uphold accountability in governance. Kokate was shifted in the wake of growing public outrage over his conduct and controversial remarks. "There was a lot of public anger. We discussed it together and decided to reassign the agriculture department to Dattatraya Bharne," Fadnavis told the media on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new international campus of Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University at Waranga. "No other portfolios have been changed, and as of now, no such changes are being considered." Dispelling speculation over his meeting with former NCP(Ajit) minister Dhananjay Munde, Fadnavis clarified there were no discussions related to any cabinet changes during a meeting between them. "Such decisions are not taken at Munde's level. They happen between me, Shinde, and Pawar," he said. Kokate has been mired in controversy — first when a camera caught him allegedly playing an online card game during the recently concluded monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislature, and more recently, for his inflammatory statements about farmers and govt schemes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Rare, Refined, and Ready Soon – Monte South is the Answer Monte South A Joint Venture between Adani Realty and Marathon Realty Learn More Undo He denied the gaming allegation, claiming he was trying to close a pop-up ad, and even offered to resign if proven guilty. However, it was his remarks comparing govt with beggars in reference to the Re1 crop insurance scheme that appear to have sealed his fate for showing the govt in poor light. "The govt takes one rupee from the farmers. But it does not give a single rupee to the farmers. The govt takes money. So who is the beggar? The govt is the beggar, not the farmers," he had said. In previous statements, Kokate also alleged that farmers used govt funds for weddings and not agriculture, and that "two to four per cent corruption" in schemes was not a reason to shut them down. In February, he and his brother Sunil Kokate were sentenced to two years jail by a Nashik court for submitting fake documents to obtain flats under a govt quota in the 1990s. On Friday, Fadnavis reiterated stern warning to all ministers against inviting public ire, stating, "I, Shinde, and Pawar have made it clear that irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated. The decision to remove Kokate is a signal — we are here for public service, and our words and actions must reflect that."
