Cambiaso's Juventus Rift Signals Summer Shake-Up Amid Premier League Interest
Juventus Back in Control, But Questions Linger
With a 2-0 win over Monza and Bologna's draw in Udine, Juventus have regained control of their Champions League destiny. Three wins from the last four would secure a top-four finish – a financial and footballing lifeline after a turbulent season. It would be, in the club's words, 'pure oxygen' for a project still recovering from last summer's transfer missteps.

However, not everything is harmonious at Continassa, suggest reports from CalcioMercato. Despite the prospect of European football and financial relief, 'all, or almost all, except Andrea Cambiaso' look set to stay. That carefully worded caveat speaks volumes. 'The feeling is that something has broken between the full-back of the Italian National Team and the Old Lady.'

Premier League Eyes Cambiaso as Guardiola Circles Again
Giovanni Bia, Cambiaso's agent, was characteristically candid on Radio Kiss Kiss: 'Guardiola wanted him, Juventus will explain what happened, I tell you that everything that has been written in relation to the deal is true.' It's a bold claim that throws open the January dealings between Juventus and Manchester City.

City's interest hasn't waned. 'Pep Guardiola has not given up on the former Genoa player. With an offer of 40/45 million the deal can go through, this time for real.' The next few weeks could see the door finally open. Yet there's a warning too – 'Watch out for Liverpool's candidacy,' with Trent Alexander-Arnold widely rumoured to be Real Madrid-bound.
Juventus Plan for Life Without Cambiaso
Cristiano Giuntoli's recent due diligence on Maxim De Cuyper is no coincidence. The 24-year-old Belgian, praised for his Champions League exploits and 'excellent physical structure,' has quickly become a priority. Milan may rival Juve for his signature, especially if Theo Hernandez departs, but Turin appears to be moving decisively. 'Juventus has moved early, sending a clear signal: the club is already working on the post Cambiaso.'
Strategic Rebuild or Missed Opportunity?
Letting Cambiaso go – just as he matures into a top-level wing-back – may seem shortsighted, especially if his destination is a direct Champions League rival. Juventus must balance books, but losing a player Guardiola and Slot admire is a risk. If Champions League qualification is the prize, stability and retention should be the currency.
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
Liverpool fans are right to feel a ripple of excitement. With Trent Alexander-Arnold's Real Madrid move increasingly likely – even if still publicly denied – the Anfield hierarchy must move quickly and smartly. Andrea Cambiaso fits the mould: Italian pedigree, high technical ceiling, and already comfortable in a top European side. The fact that Guardiola wanted him in January is a green flag. Slot needs a ball-playing full-back who can tuck into midfield and Cambiaso ticks that tactical box.

'With an offer of 40/45 million the deal can go through, this time for real.' If that's accurate, it's good value in today's market. Liverpool's new era under Slot is about vertical football and tactical fluidity. Cambiaso isn't just cover – he's potentially the future starting right-back in a post-Trent world.
That said, fans will remain wary. It's one thing to be linked, another to act decisively. Liverpool hesitated in the January window, and they can't afford to be second to Manchester City again. Cambiaso may be Juventus' problem today, but he could be Liverpool's solution tomorrow. As one fan forum put it: 'Let's not scout for City. Act before they do.'

Three ways Liverpool could line up next season with Florian Wirtz

German midfielder Florian Wirtz is set to join Liverpool this summer as the Premier League champions look to strengthen ahead of their 2025/26 title defence. The 22-year-old will move to Anfield in a deal that could reach £116m, potentially making him the most expensive signing in Premier League history. Advertisement Plenty of expectation will come with that sort of fee, owing to the obvious talent that he has displayed since helping Bayer Leverkusen to their first ever Bundesliga title. Wirtz can play a number of positions across the front line (Getty) However, with Liverpool having been the strongest team in the league last season by a distance, and with a settled squad that has adapted well to the tactics of new manager Arne Slot, there are questions as to where exactly Wirtz will fit into the Dutchman's side. Joining a title-winning side can be less straightforward than it appears, but the German has played all across the front line for club and country in recent seasons. We've taken a look at he could fit into the Reds line up in 2025/26. Option 1: Attacking midfield The first place to start would be in a central attacking midfield role. While Wirtz has played more on the left in the majority of his games at club level, Liverpool's setup is very different to that which Xabi Alonso used at Leverkusen, and the most obvious gap in Liverpool's team is in attacking midfield. Advertisement Wirtz has become known for his combination of close control, excellent dribbling and an eye for a key pass, having registered 13 Bundesliga assists last season, but he has an eye for goal too, scoring 10 goals last term. He'll add a different dimension to the Liverpool attack wherever he plays, but that could be most effective from central areas, with the Reds likely to come up against an increasing number of low blocks and teams that come to Anfield to sit deep. Wirtz reportedly held conversations with Arne Slot over playing in the traditional '10' role at Anfield (The Independent) Dominik Szoboszlai was the man to fill that role last season, and Slot has previously spoken about the Hungarian's pivotal role in the side and an 'unbelievable' work-rate. Advertisement However, Wirtz is no stranger to off-the-ball work either. In the 2023/24 title-winning season, he was in the top 10 for duels won and interceptions in the Bundesliga, while an average distance covered of 7.6 miles (12.3km) and 33 sprints per match put him in the top five for those metrics too. Slot also commented on how Szoboszlai's 'numbers need to go up' in attack, so it could be that Wirtz offers the ideal blend of out-of-possession work and in-possession attacking ability. Option 2: Left wing A position that Liverpool could find themselves lacking in is left wing, with Luis Diaz reportedly on the way out of Anfield amid interest from Barcelona. Advertisement Though Cody Gakpo performed well at various points last season, it could be that Wirtz finds himself deployed further wide on the left at times next season, especially since Mohamed Salah has made the right-wing position his own since arriving at Anfield. Wirtz could find himself deployed on the left at times during his Anfield career (The Independent) Wirtz's tactical flexibility is one of his most coveted attributes, and while the majority of his appearances for Leverkusen have come from a left attacking midfield role, it is unlikely that Slot will stray far from the 4-3-2-1 that brought so much success last season. And the Dutchman could deploy Wirtz on the left with instructions to pick up the spaces in that favoured position, with the German playing a hybrid left-wing role that sees him drift inside. This could work especially well if the club were to sign Milos Kerkez, with the marauding Hungarian full-back capable of providing the necessary width. Option 3: False 9 or second striker Wirtz is one of several players to benefit from the unique tactical insight of Xabi Alonso during his time in Leverkusen, and this included playing in positions as varied as second striker and false nine during his time at the BayArena. Advertisement And it is in the latter that Wirtz could see himself deployed at times for Liverpool, with Slot having used Luis Diaz in the role last season, including in the 4-0 win over Leverkusen at Anfield. Wirtz could be used as a false nine on certain occasions depending on whether or not Liverpool sign a recognised striker (The Independent) Wirtz has been used as both a false nine and second striker by Alonso during his time at Leverkusen (Getty Images) With Darwin Nunez reportedly set for a move away from Anfield, Liverpool are supposedly in the market for a striker signings, though Wirtz could be used as a false nine at times if that signing fails to materialise. Many of the attributes that make Wirtz a danger will be evident in these central areas, from his close control and brilliant dribbling to an impressive eye for goal, though it is his ability to drag out defenders out of position that would be pivotal in these areas, potentially opening up plenty of space in behind defences for wide players to exploit. Fabrizio Romano Confirms Florian Wirtz to Liverpool is ‘100% Done'

Liverpool Beat Rivals to Sign Florian Wirtz in Stunning Transfer Coup Liverpool have pulled off a sensational coup in the transfer market, with the signing of Florian Wirtz now '100% done,' according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Bayer Leverkusen star, widely regarded as one of the brightest attacking midfielders in Europe, has chosen Anfield as his next destination, turning down strong interest from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City. Advertisement Romano confirmed on Tuesday that 'Liverpool verbally agree deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for package reaching €150m add-ons included,' adding that the 'player side already agreed two weeks ago with move now imminent' and that 'Wirtz set for medical and contract signing.' The 22-year-old German international, currently on holiday, is expected to complete his move following a medical once the transfer window reopens on 16 June. This delay is due to FIFA Club World Cup regulations. Behind the Deal: Slot's Role and Player Decision This wasn't a transfer engineered overnight. Initial speculation linked Wirtz with Manchester City, especially after he was spotted in England with his parents, who also serve as his representatives. However, those assumptions were quickly flipped on their head. German reports suggested that the Wirtz entourage travelled not to Manchester, but to Merseyside. Advertisement Arne Slot, fresh off a Premier League-winning debut campaign, is believed to have played a pivotal role in securing the player's decision. During his UK visit, Wirtz reportedly held a direct conversation with the Liverpool manager. That meeting appears to have been decisive. The report explains that 'a conversation with the Liverpool boss convinced him to choose a move to Anfield over going to Bayern Munich.' Slot's project, vision and playing style are said to have swayed the attacking midfielder, who has long been touted as the spiritual successor to Mesut Özil in the German national team setup. Photo: IMAGO Mixed Reports but Deal Remains on Track Despite Romano's strong declarations, some sources remain slightly more cautious. A contradictory update came from another senior journalist, who stated there was 'no agreement yet' between the clubs. However, even that statement confirmed that Liverpool and Leverkusen were in the 'final stages' of negotiations. Advertisement Romano doubled down on his position, clarifying that 'I told you two days ago (Tuesday) that the agreement is done. I can confirm that the agreement is done. You can consider Wirtz as a Liverpool player.' The delay in any official confirmation is, according to Romano, entirely due to Wirtz being on holiday. Once he returns, the medical and contract signing are set to follow swiftly. Photo: IMAGO Strategic Timing Ahead of Window Opening With the summer transfer window closed until 16 June, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have time to finalise the structure of the deal, which is said to be complex due to the size of the package involved. Advertisement This breathing room could prove beneficial, as clubs look to iron out technicalities and payment schedules before the move is rubber-stamped. The final valuation, reportedly reaching €150 million including add-ons, represents a record-breaking commitment from Liverpool. But if Wirtz can translate his Bundesliga brilliance to the Premier League, it may well be a bargain in the long run. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis This is seismic. The sort of signing Liverpool fans used to dream about but rarely saw happen unless a star was being sold. To beat Bayern, Real Madrid and Man City to Florian Wirtz speaks volumes not just about Liverpool's pulling power, but also about the Slot effect. Arne Slot hasn't just won the league, he's clearly winning hearts and minds off the pitch too. Advertisement Wirtz is a generational talent. His ability to glide past players, his intelligence between the lines and his fearless creativity are exactly what this team needs to evolve again. While fans are rightly still emotional after the Klopp era, Slot seems to be building something both sustainable and exciting. There's a buzz growing. The thought of Wirtz linking up with Salah, Szoboszlai and Diaz in a fluid front four will have fans counting down the days until pre-season. The fee might be huge, but so was the statement. This is not a rebuild, it's a reload. Credit to Fabrizio Romano for staying consistent on this story. His updates have been the most confident throughout and, once again, he appears to have been proven right.

Photo by Christopher Neundorf/EPA-EFE June 13 (UPI) -- Liverpool agreed to a potential record transfer fee of nearly $157 million for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz. Sources told ESPN, The Athletic and Sky Sports about the agreement Friday. Wirtz is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Reds. If completed, Wirtz's pact, which features a guaranteed $135.2 million and $21.6 million in add-ons, would set a British transfer fee record. Wirtz, 22, made his senior debut at Leverkusen in 2020. He totaled 18 goals and 20 assists over 49 appearances in 2023-24 en route to Bundesliga Player of the Season honors. Wirtz totaled 16 goals and 15 assists over 45 appearances last season. Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez set the previous British transfer fee record when he joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023.
