Polo-Cambiaso reigns again as daughter Mia makes Gold Cup history

EASEBOURNE, England - Argentine polo maestro Adolfo Cambiaso added a ninth British Open Gold Cup to his trophy cabinet at the weekend, but this victory carried extra sparkle – his 23-year-old daughter Mia was playing with him and became the first Argentine woman to claim the prestigious prize. The 50-year-old, widely regarded as the greatest polo player of all time, led his La Dolfina/Scone team to a nail-biting 9-8 victory over French newcomers Kazak at Cowdray Park in front of more than 8,000 spectators basking in West Sussex sunshine. The win came 34 years after Cambiaso first lifted the Gold Cup in 1991, and his latest triumph made him the only player to win the tournament alongside two different children having done so with son Poroto in 2020. Mia Cambiaso became only the third woman to win the Gold Cup and was crowned Most Valuable Player, and her mare DS Altamira claimed Best Playing Pony honours. The match was as dramatic as it was historic, with the elder Cambiaso suffering three broken fingers in a collision that forced him off the field for the final two minutes, his team clinging to a precarious 9-7 lead. The injury-causing incident was ruled a foul against Cambiaso, allowing Kazak to convert a penalty and close the gap to one goal. "It's very special. My ninth Gold Cup and to do it with my daughter, Mia is incredible. I am so proud of her; the first Argentinian woman to lift a Gold Cup," said Cambiaso. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. 'It was nice' – Manchester City right-back target flattered by Pep Guardiola interest

Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso has reacted to transfer interest from Manchester City in January amid continued speculation over a possible summer switch to the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City held talks to add the 25-year-old Italy international to their ranks midway through the recent campaign after Kyle Walker moved to AC Milan on loan – leaving Pep Guardiola in desperate need of cover at right-back. Advertisement Matheus Nunes, Rico Lewis and January signing Abdukodir Khusanov collectively shouldered the burden on the right flank of defence in the second half of the campaign, with Walker set to leave the club permanently this summer. The 35-year-old has been told he has no future at the Etihad Stadium next term as Manchester City eye a fifth signing of the transfer window amid interest in Cambiaso and Newcastle's Valentino Livramento. City are believed to have held initial talks with Newcastle for Livramento, who has three years remaining on his current deal at St. James' Park after a breakthrough few seasons under Eddie Howe in Tyneside, where he moved from Southampton in 2023. However, Howe remains adamant on keeping hold of the 22-year-old England international currently with the young Three Lions for the U-21 European Championship, where Livramento has reacted to transfer interest from the Etihad Stadium. Advertisement Manchester City have already made four new signings this summer, having added all of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki to their ranks before jetting off to the United States for their ongoing FIFA Club World Cup campaign. Outgoings and contract renewals could dominate the headlines for the duration of the tournament – which will run till mid-July – but Manchester City are still expected to return to the market and secure the arrival of a new right-back to replace the outgoing Walker. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Football Italia, Cambiaso has delivered his verdict on interest from Manchester City in January as the 2023 treble winners consider whether they want to re-enter negotiations with Newcastle for Livrameno. 'Let's say they (Manchester City) have almost unlimited financial resources – their ownership is incredibly wealthy – so I'm not surprised they've already spent so much on the transfer market,' Cambiaso said. Advertisement 'In January, it was nice just to talk, but I'm happy to be here (at Juventus) and to wear this shirt. I was never really close anyway — it was nice and flattering to be linked with clubs like that, but I'll say it again: I'm truly happy to be playing here.' It is unlikely that Manchester City get involved in a lengthy transfer saga and newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana will be eyeing alternatives if the Blues are to move on from their interest in Livrameno ahead of the new campaign.

Milan want Cambiaso from Juventus for Allegri reunion

Sky Sport Italia claim Milan and new coach Max Allegri are looking to Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso to replace Theo Hernandez, though he remains a target for Manchester City too. Multiple sources are reporting this evening that Theo Hernandez is ready to accept the huge €18m per season salary on offer from Al-Hilal. Advertisement With that in mind, the Rossoneri need a replacement, and the latest name on the list as per Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio is Cambiaso. EPA-EFE/DANIEL DAL ZENNARO The 25-year-old Italy international will certainly not be cheap, as he was the subject of a reported €50m proposal from Manchester City in January. Their interest has waned a little since then, largely due to his form being affected by a recurring injury problem. Milan confirm Allegri's return to the club. Allegri worked with the Italian at Juventus and is eager to reunite with him at San Siro, though it would be a tricky deal to get completed. Cambiaso is a product of the Genoa youth academy who joined Juventus in 2022 for €13.3m, flourishing on loan at Bologna and then going from strength to strength in Turin.

How Juventus Left Serie A Race For Champions League Places Wide Open

After being held to a 1-1 draw by Bologna, Juventus have left the race for UEFA Champions League Places in Serie A wide open as four teams finished the weekend within one point of each other. While Napoli and Inter are battling for the Scudetto, Atalanta trail them in third place but have a healthy five point lead over the trailing pack. Juve remain fourth but, like AS Roma and Lazio below them have 63 points, with sixth-placed Bologna now on 62 points with just three games remaining. The trip to Bologna had been a crucial opportunity for the Bianconeri to separate themselves from that group, but a heavy injury list severely weakened the options available to Igor Tudor. Arek Milik, Dusan Vlahovic and Teun Koopmeiners were among that number, while Kenan Yildiz was suspended, yet the real issues were in defence. Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, Federico Gatti and Lloyd Kelly were all out, forcing Nicoló Savona into a role as a makeshift central defender. Yet Juve dominated the early exchanges and took the lead after just nine minutes. Andrea Cambiaso cut in from the right and moved across the field, eventually rolling the ball out to Khephren Thuram. The midfielder took a touch, then lashed a left footed effort from outside the area which bounced just in front of Lukasz Skorupski, the goalkeeper misjudging his dive and looking on as it found the back of the net. Nico Gonzalez should've done better when Cambiaso put him through on goal, and it was then that Bologna began to come back into the tie. Thijs Dallinga wasted a great chance before Riccardo Orsolini drew a great save from Michele Di Gregorio and Weston McKennie got away with a clumsy challenge on Remo Freuler. Gonzalez then had a goal ruled out for offside, Kolo Muani wasted a great chance and then the flag ruled out yet another effort from the hugely effective Cambiaso who was consistently causing Bologna problems. Yet after Juventus had squandered countless chances to double their lead, they were pegged back, Remo Freuler's effort deflecting off Renato Veiga to level the scores at 1-1. Things went from bad to worse for Juve as Cambiaso – who has recently been linked with a high profile move to Liverpool as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold – limped off with an injury. All of that means the battle for the final Champions League qualification spot will go down to the wire, and Juve boss Igor Tudor says his side will be ready for a crucial encounter with sixth-placed Lazio. 'There are three games left and we are still fourth, albeit level on points. We go to Lazio with confidence, then there's Udinese and Venezia,' the Coach told DAZN. 'I said before kick-off that whatever the result, nothing will be decided tonight. I' m saying the same against Lazio, one game cannot decide everything when there are so many teams crammed together in a few points. 'At the end of the day, the fixtures that seem easier on paper might be the most difficult. Everyone is challenging for something at this stage of the season, especially the last against Venezia."
