How Juventus Left Serie A Race For Champions League Places Wide Open
After being held to a 1-1 draw by Bologna, Juventus have left the race for UEFA Champions League Places in Serie A wide open as four teams finished the weekend within one point of each other.
While Napoli and Inter are battling for the Scudetto, Atalanta trail them in third place but have a healthy five point lead over the trailing pack. Juve remain fourth but, like AS Roma and Lazio below them have 63 points, with sixth-placed Bologna now on 62 points with just three games remaining.
The trip to Bologna had been a crucial opportunity for the Bianconeri to separate themselves from that group, but a heavy injury list severely weakened the options available to Igor Tudor.
Arek Milik, Dusan Vlahovic and Teun Koopmeiners were among that number, while Kenan Yildiz was suspended, yet the real issues were in defence. Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, Federico Gatti and Lloyd Kelly were all out, forcing Nicoló Savona into a role as a makeshift central defender.
Yet Juve dominated the early exchanges and took the lead after just nine minutes. Andrea Cambiaso cut in from the right and moved across the field, eventually rolling the ball out to Khephren Thuram.
The midfielder took a touch, then lashed a left footed effort from outside the area which bounced just in front of Lukasz Skorupski, the goalkeeper misjudging his dive and looking on as it found the back of the net.
Nico Gonzalez should've done better when Cambiaso put him through on goal, and it was then that Bologna began to come back into the tie. Thijs Dallinga wasted a great chance before Riccardo Orsolini drew a great save from Michele Di Gregorio and Weston McKennie got away with a clumsy challenge on Remo Freuler.
Gonzalez then had a goal ruled out for offside, Kolo Muani wasted a great chance and then the flag ruled out yet another effort from the hugely effective Cambiaso who was consistently causing Bologna problems.
Yet after Juventus had squandered countless chances to double their lead, they were pegged back, Remo Freuler's effort deflecting off Renato Veiga to level the scores at 1-1.
Things went from bad to worse for Juve as Cambiaso – who has recently been linked with a high profile move to Liverpool as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold – limped off with an injury.
All of that means the battle for the final Champions League qualification spot will go down to the wire, and Juve boss Igor Tudor says his side will be ready for a crucial encounter with sixth-placed Lazio.
'There are three games left and we are still fourth, albeit level on points. We go to Lazio with confidence, then there's Udinese and Venezia,' the Coach told DAZN. 'I said before kick-off that whatever the result, nothing will be decided tonight. I' m saying the same against Lazio, one game cannot decide everything when there are so many teams crammed together in a few points.
'At the end of the day, the fixtures that seem easier on paper might be the most difficult. Everyone is challenging for something at this stage of the season, especially the last against Venezia."

Filippo Inzaghi leaves Pisa after Serie A promotion
Filippo Inzaghi has left his role as Pisa head coach after leading the club to their first Serie A promotion in 34 years. Inzaghi had his contract mutually terminated after just one season in charge. Following successive mid-table finishes in Serie B, he led the club back to the top flight with a second-place finish in 2024-25 , 10 points clear of third-place Spezia. Advertisement Pisa's promotion was the second time Inzaghi has led a side back to the Serie A after his Benevento side went up as champions of Serie B in 2019-20. Inzaghi's departure comes amid widespread change in the coaching departments of Italian clubs. His young brother, Simone, left Inter to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal earlier this month after failing to secure a trophy during 2024-25. Cristian Chivu was appointed as Inter's new head coach after the club lost the Champions League final by a record 5-0 margin to Paris Saint-Germain. Gian Piero Gasperini, who led Atalanta to their 2024 Europa League win, replaced Claudio Ranieri as Roma's head coach, while Massimiliano Allegri succeeded Sergio Conceicao in the Milan dugout after failing to secure European football. Fiorentina head coach Raffaele Palladino had his contract terminated following a sixth-placed finish in Serie A, while Maurizio Sarri has returned to Lazio. Inzaghi's coaching career began at Milan, where he scored 126 goals in 300 matches during his playing career. He took charge for the 2014-15 season and recorded a 10th-placed finish. The 51-year-old had subsequent spells with Venezia, Bologna, Benevento, Brescia, Reggina, Salernitana and most recently Pisa, but has never spent more than two seasons with the same club in that time. The former Italy international is his nation's joint-sixth highest goalscorer of all time, with 25 goals in 57 international appearances during his playing career.

As well as Gyokeres: Amorim plots reunion with 23-y/o 'phenomenal' Portugal int'l available for cut-price fee Amidst Manchester United's ongoing pursuit of Sporting Lisbon talisman Viktor Gyokeres, Ruben Amorim has set his sights on a reunion with another former player. Indeed, the Red Devils have been linked with Sporting's highly-rated centre-half, Goncalo Inacio, for a second consecutive summer. Advertisement This time last year, United had opted to go all-out in their pursuit of teenage prospect Leny Yoro, who has since become an integral cog in Amorim's project at Old Trafford, as well as a more experienced — but still young — addition in the form of Matthijs de Ligt. Amorim plots Inacio reunion after senior Reds depart Inacio has played a key role in Sporting retaining their league title this term. (Photo by) Reinforcements are necessary yet again this summer, though, after United bid farewell to Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans at the end of the campaign when their contracts expired. INEOS chiefs did opt to keep hold of Harry Maguire by activating his one-year extension, ensuring he's tied to Old Trafford until the culmination of 2025/2026. It remains to be seen what their plans are with him when that deal approaches its end. Advertisement Nonetheless, Inacio, 23, poses as a proven and surprisingly affordable option to add to the ranks. He has a £50 million release clause included in his terms, although numerous outlets have claimed Sporting would accept a cut-price fee of £33m to sanction his exit. Inacio has his pick of three Premier League suitors when the window reopens Inacio made 187 appearances across five-and-a-half seasons under Amorim, which bodes well in United's favour if they are to reignite their interest in the coming months. Portuguese outlet O Joga, relayed by CaughtOffside, claims the Reds and arch-rivals Liverpool are among the teams mulling over a move for the 'phenomenal' 16-capped international this summer, while Newcastle United are also keeping tabs from afar. Advertisement One issue, of course, is that Arne Slot and Eddie Howe can offer Inacio the chance to play Champions League football next season, whereas he'll be in for a considerably quieter term should he make the move to Manchester.
