Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson reveals he was caught by the police trying to steal a porn magazine while exploring his sexuality as a teenager
Jesse Tyler Ferguson has confessed he was caught by police after attempting to steal a porn magazine during his teen years.
The Modern Family star, 49, admitted he was aged 14 or 15 and was trying to explore his sexuality when the unfortunate incident took place.
Speaking to Mel Giedroyc on her podcast Where There's a Will There's a Wake, Jesse explained: 'I was caught stealing pornography when I was very young. Not very young, but like early teens.'
As host Mel joked: 'Top shelf? Top shelf,' Jesse confirmed: 'Yeah it was pretty good porn.'
Revealing he stole the publication by stuffing it under his shirt he confessed: 'I think I was 14, 15.....
'But I do feel bad about it, but I want everyone to be clear before I go into heaven that it wasn't because I was… I didn't want to be a criminal.

'I just felt like at that time in my life, you weren't giving me a lot of the choices. There was not a lot available to me to explore my sexuality. I had to do what I needed to do.'
Yet Jesse's quest to explore his sexuality didn't quite go to plan as Mel asked: 'Who caught you?'
'The police,' confirmed Jesse, 'Well, first the metal detector. Yeah, they put what f*****g sensors inside the magazines. At least they did back then... The metal detector went off.'
Mel added: 'Oh, so the metal detector went off. It was under your shirt.
Jesse joked: 'That almost killed me alone. I almost died then. Because I had a heart attack knowing I had porn under my shirt and the metal detector was going off.
'They're like, do you have something in your bag? And I had to tell them, no, I have porn under my shirt.
'They called the police, they were making an example out of me. Isn't that awful?'
Jesse is now married to his husband Justin Mikita and the couple are parents to two sons, Berkett, four, and Sullivan, two.

Appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show, she asked if their son Beckett enjoyed any particular music and Jesse was quick to respond that there weren't too many options in the car.
'It's a lot of show tunes, because that's what I like. So, you know, we're raising him gay until he decides to be straight,' he joked.
'On the way back from the hospital, we played Britney Spears,' Jesse explained, as an homage to his husband's unwavering devotion to the popstar. 'That was his first exposure to music.'
Meanwhile on Sunday night Jesse's Modern Family co-star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons came out as bisexual.
Aubrey, who played Lily, the adoptive daughter of Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse), took to TikTok to reveal the news.

She did so in a rather humorous fashion, using the audio from a Season 4 episode of Modern Family called The Future Dunphys, where a young Lily claims she's gay.
The actress shared a video of her lip-syncing to the scene where she declares, 'No I'm not, I'm gay! I'm gay!' after Gloria (Sofia Vergara) insists she's Vietnamese.
Aubrey captioned the video, 'People keep joking so much abt me being being gay when I literally am (I'm bi).'
She captioned the Sunday night post, 'hehe happy pride month and to all a good night,' with the hashtags #modernfamily #lily #pridemonth #pride #fyp #bi.

Jason Isaacs blasts huge A-List co-star and brands them 'worst bully ever'
Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs has claimed he was terrorised by a 'global icon' on a movie set who was 'the worst bully ever' - but says he will never reveal their identity British actor Jason Issacs, best known for his work in the Harry Potter films and HBO series The White Lotus, has been revealing all about some disappointing on-set secrets. In a recent interview, the 62-year-old recalled an unpleasant encounter with a renowned actor on one of his projects. The Lucius Malfoy actor, who has appeared in huge movies like Armageddon, Black Hawk Down and Peter Pan, described the Hollywood A-lister as "the worst bully ever and a global icon." "Did all the old tricks of doing a completely different performance off-camera than on. Yeah, it sucked," Isaacs said when looking back on his time working with the unnamed star. "I'd never seen anything like it. Before, I would've licked the ground that this person walked on." Isaacs also admitted to Vulture that he has had to work with several actors on set whom he didn't particularly enjoy working with. However, he made it clear that he would never disclose the identities of these actors - stating "acting is all about secrets." In the same interview, Issacs insisted controversial actor Mel Gibson is not his friend, but they do "text each other once in a blue moon". Isaacs, who stared alongside Gibson in the 2000 movie The Patriot, feels his former co-star has "said and done some things that are unconscionable and unforgivable" He recalled to the publication how he didn't want to see Gibson following his infamous 2006 arrest for drunk driving, during which he launched into a vile anti-Semitic tirade. Isaacs explained: "I was invited by my friend to some charity cricket event for Australians in film. And he said, 'If you come, Mel will.' And I said, 'I don't want to see Mel.' I hadn't seen him since that terrible anti-Semitic outburst when he got stopped by the police." The Jewish actor eventually agreed to go to the event, and feels "eternal shame" that when he crossed paths with 69-year-old Mel, he "forgave him instantly" after they had a heartfelt conversation. He said: "Mel was there, and he called 'Jace' across the room, very friendly. I went, 'Rabbi Gibson, how are we?' He came up and he said, 'I was really drunk, man. I was trying to get him to hit me or shoot me or something. I'm having a terrible time.' "And he proceeded to unload some very personal things. He's not my friend but — maybe to my eternal shame — I forgave him instantly because he was there making himself vulnerable." But Isaacs admitted he hasn't "forgiven" Mel completely and though they are in occasional contact, he still has "no idea" what he really feels about his former co-star. He declared "I'm not saying I forgive Mel" but went on to admit they do exchange text messages now and again. "I have no idea what to do about him," Issacs mused. "But if he knocked on my door tonight and said, 'Look, my hotel's cancelled. Can I stay?' I'd say, 'Yes', probably." Following Mel's 2006 arrest, the 69-year-old star shared a lengthy apology. He said at the time: 'There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of Anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologise specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI charge. 'I am a public person, and when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena. As a result, I must assume personal responsibility for my words and apologise directly to those who have been hurt and offended by those words."

Modern Family star says he looked ‘crazy' when cut from Ab Fab cameo
Jesse Tyler Ferguson discussed being cut from an episode of Absolutely Fabulous early in his career, which made him look like a 'crazy extra'. Ferguson, known for his role as Mitchell Pritchett in Modern Family, appeared in the fourth season of Absolutely Fabulous in 2002. Originally cast as a reporter, Ferguson's scene was reduced to him frantically waving goodbye, making him feel like a 'maniac'. Ferguson recounted the experience on Mel Giedroyc 's podcast, Where There's a Will There's a Wake, explaining that his scene was cut, leaving only his out-of-context exit. Before Modern Family, Ferguson had acting debuts in the 2000 TV series Forbidden Love and the 2001 film Ordinary Sinner, and he is currently starring in Stephen Sondheim 's final musical, Here We Are, at the National Theatre in London.
