Orlando Pirates news: Exit confirmed, more moves likely

Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed the departure of long-serving striker Zakhele Lepasa, putting an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his future. The 28-year-old will now look to revive his career away from Mayfair.
Lepasa featured seldom in Pirates' 2024/25 campaign and was also excluded from the club's recent pre-season tour to Spain under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. Despite parting ways, Pirates recently honoured Lepasa's contribution by including him in their ongoing 'Giants' Series documentary, a nod to his role in the club's history.
Lepasa isn't the only name potentially heading for the exit. Katlego Otladisa was also absent from the Spain camp, and insiders suggest more changes could be on the horizon. With the transfer window still open until 22 September, the door remains open for late movements.
A trusted Siya source indicated: 'With the transfer window open until late September, don't be surprised if there's another addition or two. It will depend on outgoings and how the technical team assesses the balance of the squad coming out of pre-season.'
So far, Pirates have confirmed eleven arrivals in the window, including Sipho Mbule, Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi, and Yanela Mbuthuma, bolstering nearly every department of the squad.

His contract was due to come to an end next season, meaning he was free to sign a pre-season contract with a club of his choice early next year. Kaizer Chiefs have since minimised the risk of losing their academy graduate for free by exercising their contract extension on him. 'The club is aware that if they don't exercise his option as soon as possible then they could lose him for free or at least close to nothing because his contract was coming to an end in June 2026,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . Orlando Pirates name captain and two vices for 2025-26 season

The club said the ' position of captain has been vacant since the departure of long-serving defender Innocent Maela'. 'Maela led from 2022 to date, having taken over from another stalwart and legend, Happy Jele. 'In keeping with club tradition, the appointment came directly from the players through a confidential voting process. Emerging as the team's clear choice to wear the captain's armband is defender Nkosinathi Sibisi. 'Sibisi will be assisted by Thapelo Xoki and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who have been named as vice captains.' The selection of Mbokazi, only 19, who had an outstanding debut season for Pirates' senior team in 2024-25 and made his Bafana debut in June, is another vote of confidence in the quality and leadership potential of the young talent.
