Another Kaizer Chiefs star wanted in Europe, club act fast

Kaizer Chiefs have rushed to extend the contract of a midfielder who's attracting serious interest from abroad.
Midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is a wanted man in Europe and now, reports suggest the Glamour Boys have triggered their extension option on the midfielder.
Ngcobo reportedly caught the eye of a Dutch side during the club's pre-season in Europe.

His contract was due to come to an end next season, meaning he was free to sign a pre-season contract with a club of his choice early next year.
Kaizer Chiefs have since minimised the risk of losing their academy graduate for free by exercising their contract extension on him.
'The club is aware that if they don't exercise his option as soon as possible then they could lose him for free or at least close to nothing because his contract was coming to an end in June 2026,' an insider told Soccer Laduma .
'So with the exercising of the one-year option it gives the club the chance to negotiate a better price if the move was to happen.'

Kaizer Chiefs' defining 2025/26 season: Will they rebuild or regress?

The 2025/26 season has officially kicked off, with the MTN8 taking centre stage this weekend. The top eight teams from last season are looking to begin their campaigns on a high note, with early silverware up for grabs. However, for the second season running, one of South African football's biggest names — Kaizer Chiefs — will once again watch from the sidelines after narrowly missing out on a top-eight finish, ending the last campaign in ninth position. Chiefs, however, ended last season on a positive note, lifting the Nedbank Cup. That triumph not only secured them a return to continental football via the CAF Confederation Cup, but also reignited belief within the club heading into this campaign. Expectations are high for the new season — at the very least, a top-eight finish is non-negotiable. The squad rebuild under new coach Nasreddine Nabi now moves into a critical phase, where visible improvement and consistency must replace last season's instability. Much of their previous struggles were self-inflicted. Defensive lapses, an inability to hold onto leads, and poor execution in key moments proved costly. Injuries, particularly at the back, also disrupted their campaign. But with the injection of new talent and a fresh sense of direction, there is renewed hope that this season could mark a turning point.

Tiny Richards Bay target big Mamelodi Sundowns scalp in MTN8 quarter-finals

Image: BACKPAGEPIX MTN8 debutants Richards Bay are preparing for the biggest test in their club's short top-flight history — a quarter-final clash against the might of Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday at 3pm. After clinching a dramatic top-eight finish on the final day of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, the Natal Rich Boyz now find themselves drawn against the league's most dominant force in the opening round of the lucrative knockout competition. And, while the odds are firmly stacked against them, the club views this occasion as more than just a box to tick — it's a sign of progress. Their coaching duo, Ronnie Gabriel and Papi Zothwane, has kept the squad grounded during pre-season, knowing what awaits them. Sundowns — eight-time consecutive league winners — are not just title favourites; they're also looking to build on last season's domestic dominance under head coach Miguel Cardoso, now entering his second campaign in charge. Richards Bay, by contrast, enter the competition with zero expectations. Having spent most of last season fending off relegation before finishing eighth, they now find themselves in uncharted waters. The quarter-final offers them the chance to measure themselves against a team packed with internationals and CAF experience. Sundowns are expected to field a full-strength line-up, featuring star names such as Themba Zwane, Lucas Ribeiro, and Teboho Mokoena. Richards Bay will lean on their defensive discipline and structure — which helped them punch above their weight last season — to try to keep the tie competitive. The KwaZulu-Natal outfit will also look to recent additions such as Lindokuhle Mtshali in midfield, Gabadinho Mhango's creativity in attack, and the speed of Thulani Gumede to exploit moments on the counter. Goalkeeper Salim Magoola remains a key figure — his shot-stopping abilities could determine whether this becomes a blowout or a contest.
