Adam Sandler Swings Away in Full ‘Happy Gilmore 2' Trailer — With One Classic Throwback Line
Adam Sandler is putting a new spin on his beloved titular golfer in the full trailer for the Netflix sequel movie Happy Gilmore 2.
During Saturday's fan event Tudum at the Kia Forum in the Los Angeles area, Netflix debuted the trailer for director Kyle Newacheck's new comedy that is set to begin streaming July 25. Sandler reprises his starring role as the long-driving phenom that he originated in Universal's 1996 film Happy Gilmore.

The trailer ends with a kicker that calls back to the most famous exchange in the original movie, and one of the most famous Sandler lines in general. (You will have to watch to find out.)
Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen and Ben Stiller are among the performers returning from the original feature, while new cast additions include Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Travis Kelce and Kym Whitley. Also set to appear are Eminem and such pro golfers as Jack Nicklaus, John Daly and Jordan Spieth.
'I haven't swung a club in years,' Sandler's character laments in footage that was previously released and shows Happy getting back in the swing of things. 'I'm a little intimidated. All these guys hit it big now.'
The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that Dennis Dugan — who directed the original Happy Gilmore and executive produces the sequel — is reprising his onscreen part as pro golf tour commissioner Doug Thompson in the new film.
Returning to produce Happy Gilmore 2 are Sandler, Tim Herlihy, Robert Simonds and Jack Giarraputo. Sandler and Herlihy wrote the screenplay for the sequel after having penned the original's script.
Earlier this year, Dugan teased Kelce's role in the sequel. 'His acting was really good and funny, and he was just a genuinely nice guy,' Dugan told THR at the time. 'I met him for a day and a half, loved working with him, and now every time he catches a pass on TV, I say, 'My best friend caught another pass.''
During an interview with the Dan Patrick Show that aired late last year, Sandler admitted to feeling pressure to live up to the original movie that hit theaters Feb. 16, 1996.
'It's on your mind,' Sandler said at the time. 'We've got a lot of good stuff, and we just want to make sure that it all comes together and keeps it going from start to finish, and that's the goal. We'll see. We're definitely nervous, but we feel some sort of confidence.'

Madonna Teams Up With Shawn Levy and Netflix For a Limited Series Based on Her Life: Report
Madonna fans have been waiting for years to see the Queen of Pop get her very own biopic — and according to a new report, they may finally get to see one. According to a report from Deadline on Monday (May 12), Madonna has teamed up with Deadpool & Wolverine producer Shawn Levy to develop a limited series based on her life and career for Netflix. Levy's production company 21 Laps currently has an exclusive deal with Netflix. In 2024, however, Madonna sparked rumors that the film might be back in the works, when she shared a since-deleted photo of herself sitting at a typewriter working on a screenplay titled Who's That Girl — an apparent nod to her 1987 film and song of the same name. Still, Madonna herself floated the idea of creating a TV series about her life in November of last year, claiming that a number of 'producers and agents' told her that she wouldn't be able to make her film the way she wanted to. 'Downsize-down scale-think smaller-they say—I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged,' she wrote in a since-removed post, before asking her fans if they would prefer to see her story adapted into 'a series or a feature film.' Sean Penn Reacts (30 Years Later) to Madonna Calling Him the Love of Her Life
In her 1991 documentary Truth or Dare, Madonna declared that Sean Penn was the love of her life. And more than three decades later, the actor is sharing his thoughts on it. In an interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast posted Monday (May 12), Penn said that his superstar ex-wife was 'very sweet' for her remarks in the Alek Keshishian-directed doc when asked whether he recalled what she'd said. 'I do,' he told Theroux. 'Look, she's been a good friend for a lot of years.'
