Former Celtic goalkeeper and Lisbon Lion John Fallon has died at the age of 84.
Fallon was part of the squad that won the European Cup in 1967 and made over 200 appearances for the Parkhead club.
He was the unused substitute goalkeeper on the famous night in Lisbon when Celtic defeated Inter Milan and he won 14 major trophies in his 14 years as a Celtic player.
Fallon joined Celtic in 1958 and was part of the team that ended an eight-year trophy drought to lift the Scottish Cup in 1965, which was also Jock Stein's first silverware as manager.
The goalkeeper went on to help the club to another Scopttish Cup win, five League Cups and six league titles as well as the European Cup.
He retired from football in the mid-1970s after spells with Motherwell and Greenock Morton.
A Celtic spokesperson said: 'His passing comes as a great sadness to us all, and the thoughts and prayers of everyone connected with Celtic Football Club are with his family and friends at this sad time.'

Hibs hero set for MLS transfer move as he could join Tottenham superstar in move to Will Ferrell backed club

The market is ongoing and clubs around the world are doing business. That includes former Hibs players, many of whom have been on the move this summer, and now another in Ryan Porteous looks set to seal a switch. He is with Watford currently, having joined them from Hibs in January 2023, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston North End. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Now it's been claimed by Sky Sports that MLS side LAFC 'are close to agreeing a deal' for the Scotland international. The broadcaster states that 'it's understood the clubs are in advanced talks over a fee of £872,000, with Watford looking to insert a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.' A superstar teammate could also join Porteous in Tottenham attacker Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min and Ryan Porteous to LAFC latest It has been reported by The Sun that Spurs 'will consider selling Son Heung-min as LAFC line up a £15million bid.' Now 33, the South Korean star has been at Tottenham since 2015 and won the Europa League at the end of last season, but his future with Spurs is now in doubt. Moving to the MLS would still rely on Son accepting the bid but it's believed that his current club 'would accept an offer between £15m and £20m' that would likely make him a new teammate of Porteous', should that deal get done. Upon selling Porteous to Watford, Hibs inserted a sell on clause. A statement from the club at the time said: 'The club has received a significant six-figure deal for the defender and has a sell-on clause. A product of the Hibs Academy, 'Porto' has been at the Club for over a decade and made his debut in 2017 in the League Cup group stages against Montrose. 'The defender was in and around the First Team squad for the following few campaigns before stamping his authority on a regular spot during the 2020/21 campaign as we finished third and reached the Scottish Cup final. Last season he helped the Club reach the League Cup final and ended the campaign being named Hibs' Young Player of the Season. He also earned his first cap for Scotland last season and put in a man of the match performance in the Nations League game against Ukraine. Known for giving his all in the Hibs shirt and his passion for the Club, 'Porto' went on to make 157 appearances for the Club and scored 13 goals.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Who are LAFC? Currently, LAFC sit fifth in the Western Conference in the MLS after 21 games. They are backed by a range of celebrity minority owners, including Will Ferrell, Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, and Giorgio Chiellini. Uncertainty would hit both the Hibs and Tottenham favourites upon arrival in the US, as head coach Steve Cherundolo is stepping down from the role at the end of the 2025 season. LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said: 'Steve has been a tremendous leader for LAFC and has proven to be one of the top coaches in our league. What he has achieved during his tenure speaks for itself, and we are extremely thankful to him for his continued dedication and hard work. We support his decision to focus on his family with this move at the end of the season. For the remainder of 2025, our goals have not changed. We remain committed to winning trophies this season. We believe we have the people to make that happen, and there will be no better way to close this chapter than with another trophy for LAFC.'

Celtic fans smash the panic button as worried Hotline desperately demands to know who's really calling the shots

Robbie Copeland takes your calls after Celtic's reality check against Ajax in Como and fans want to know what comes next Whoever said friendlies don't matter clearly doesn't read the Hotline – because it's already panic stations among Celtic fans after their 5-1 hammering against Ajax. ‌ Paul Price, Belfast, said: "I had an argument with one of my best mates Johnny yesterday about our lack of signings. He accused me of panicking, well after last night's second half performance I believe I've been vindicated and I'll be texting him to remind him later, I've said before the board have obviously learned nothing from what happened with John McGinn." ‌ Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: "How embarrassing was that Celtic second half performance against Ajax? The Ajax players were clearly enjoying themselves as they cut through the Celtic defence like a knife through butter. ‌ "We could witness many more embarrassing moments of this type this season as the Celtic bubble looks like it is collapsing, if that pathetic display is anything to go by. Watching from behind the sofa could be on the cards for the Green Brigade." Brendan Rodgers once again hinted he wants more quality signings and Paul Price, Glasgow, said: "Can Celtic please clarify who is behind their signing policy? Brendan says one thing then another! Firstly he says that he has final say on signings, then after being humbled by Ajax comes out and says Celtic need to show ambition on who they wish to sign! If they want to show intent then cough up the money Motherwell are asking for Lennon Miller, that would be a starting point." Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: "Losing 5 goals to Ajax, friendly or not, might force the board's hands in this transfer window and if that doesn't then manager's comments after the game surely must. Nygren and Tierney are top quality but more players of that ilk are required. Oven-ready players, not development types. Or it's very obvious, Brendan walks..." ‌ As for Rangers fans, they're very much enjoying the fallout. Alec Morrison, Musselburgh, said:" Well that brought a near full strength Selic side back down to earth after thinking they were world beaters beating a knackered Newcastle side. Oh well, nearly time for yous to get back to your actual level - beating Hibs and St Mirren etc." Alan Flett said: "So the champions are just around the corner are they? What corner would that be? The one that leads them straight into their latest European thrashing! The season hasn't even started yet, but already it's business as usual for Celtic." ‌ Rangers beat Panathinaikos 2-0 to take a Champions League lead to Athens next week and George Wilson, West Sussex, said: Comical reading the Celtic camp on here this week talking about how poor and lucky Rangers were. Despite limited TV coverage, as with the Brugge friendly, they knew of every move and ball kicked in both games. I suppose if you've paid your Rangers TV subscription you might as well watch the game and just pray Rangers get pumped. "I only watch Celtic against Rangers or when they are getting their regular humiliations in Europe. Maybe they just guessed what actually happened? Panathinaikos were foiled 3 times by Jack Butland whose job is to keep the opposition out. Against 11 then 10 men Rangers were eventually totally dominant and could easily have scored six to finish the tie whereas at only two it's still open." And in the capital, a 1-1 draw away to Midtjylland was a creditable result for Hibs who have set up a thrilling decider at Easter Road. Neil Renton, Leith, said: "There's still a long way to go but that was a fantastic result for Hibs against a very good Danish side. Let's hope when we play them at Easter Road next week we manage to progress to the next round and we do it with the whole of Scottish football backing us. Especially Hearts fans, as they'll have nothing better to do." Do Celtic 'lack serious depth' as new season looms?

We asked for your views on the 5-1 Como Cup defeat against Ajax in Celtic's penultimate pre-season what some of you said:Liam: The same fans that got overly excited about us beating Newcastle will now be unhappy about this defeat. They're friendly matches and it's about fitness, but also these games told us very little that we don't know. Adam Idah is a disappointment and unless we do something about it we'll fall short in several games this season. At the back we know the Often too much emphasis is put on pre-season results. It's clear the first team is working well and playing some good football but we lack serious depth and there are still questions to be asked up top and at centre-back. These next two weeks to start the league and transfer market will be huge in determining our The quicker Celtic get back to playing domestic football the better as they have shown cheap buys just can't do it. Let's not be fooled, this is Scottish football and it's Hopefully they learn the lesson about keeping the ball and stop playing the ball in your own No concerns on the domestic front. The European stage is a different story. We need a reliable striker and we simply don't have one any more, the board's tight-fisted approach will, as usual, come back to bite them. No ambition spells failure!Joe: This squad overall is fragile and I'm really concerned now about the lack of quality signings where we need to strengthen. 'Project' signings are not what we need right now, for the domestic challenge or Champions League qualification. Remember, we're not there yet.
