PAK vs BAN: IPL injury rules Mustafizur Rahman out of T20I series against Pakistan; Bangladesh name replacement
Bangladesh were dealt with a heavy blow after Mustafizur Rahman was ruled out of their three-match T20I series against Pakistan following an injury the fast bowler sustained during the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mustafizur, who was picked up by Delhi Capitals as a replacement player for Jake Fraser-McGurk, sustained a left hand injury in the game against Punjab Kings while attempting a return catch off off Josh Inglis.
"Mustafizur suffered a clip fracture on his left thumb while playing his last match of the Indian Premier League yesterday," Bangladesh national team physio Delowar Hossain told ESPNCricinfo.
The Bangladesh pacer will be out for at least two-three weeks. "This injury requires a period of rest and rehabilitation. We will conduct a follow-up evaluation after two weeks to monitor his recovery progress," added Hossain, when asked how much time it will take to heal.
In IPL 2025, Mustafizur played three games, picking up four wickets in total. While he went wicketless against Gujarat Titans, the left-handed fast bowler recorded figures of 1/30 (vs Mumbai Indians) and 3/33 (vs Punjab Kings). Delhi Capitals finished fifth in the points table.
Replacing Mustafizur, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named Khaled Ahmed. Earlier, Nahid Rana had withdrawn due to personal reasons while an injured Soumya Sarkar was replaced by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Khaled is coming after a strong show with 20 wickets in the recent Bangladesh Premier League.
Bangladesh will play Pakistan in three ODI's in Lahore on May 28, 30 and June 1. The Bangla Tigers are coming after a humiliating 1-2 T20I series loss against lowly-ranked United Arab Emirates.

Speaking on Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke also spoke about Kohli and Rohit's IPL futures in the same breath. 'I think MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in next year's IPL. MS Dhoni is massive. Every time Chennai plays, even in away games, there are more Chennai fans than any other fan. Sponsors, they are there because of MS Dhoni. The fans, they are there because of MS Dhoni,' said Clarke. "He is the king of that franchise. They want him to keep playing and I dont think people realise the impact. When he decides to retire, it will be a huge loss to the franchise," he added. It wasn't a surprise that Clarke also namedropped Kohli and Rohit while speaking on Dhoni's future. Both Indian batters called time on their Test careers last month, leaving the cricketing fraternity in shock. Kohli's retirement was particularly surprising for many, as experts and fans argued that the batter was supremely fit and only needed to rejig his shortcoming against the deliveries outside off-stump.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has reacted to Virat Kohli's comment of putting Test cricket above Indian Premier League title. Kohli's team Royal Challengers Bengaluru won its first-ever trophy in 18 seasons after defeating Punjab Kings in the recently-concluded final. The star player clinched his maiden IPL trophy despite playing for the franchise since the inaugural season in 2008. While it was a big achievement for Kohli, he still termed Test cricket "five levels" above that moment. "This moment is right up there with the best moments I've had in my career. But it still marks five levels under Test cricket. That's how much I value Test cricket. And that's how much I love Test cricket. So I would just urge the youngsters coming through to treat that format with respect," said Kohli after RCB won the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad on June 3. While reacting to Kohli's comment, Russell pointed out the reason what he believes propels the players from big cricketing nations to play Test cricket. The 37-year-old all-rounder, who has prioritised franchise cricket over international assignments, is set to return to the West Indies line-up for first time in around six months during the T20I series against England. "I think when you're from India, Australia, England, those places where they look after their Test players, it's totally different to being from West Indies," Russell told The Guardian. "Those guys get lucrative central contracts to play Test cricket and play on the biggest stages, of course they want to play. West Indians? You might play 50 or 100 Tests, and you know, after you retire, there's not much to show for it." Russell, a veteran cricketer who has featured in 56 ODIs, 83 T20Is and 551 T20s, has played only one Test match for Windies. His only appearance in West Indies whites came in 2010. "I was basically pushed out of the Test set-up. They saw me as more of a white-ball player and that was that," said Russell. "Honestly? No. I believe in Test cricket, but at the end of the day, I'm a professional. It wasn't part of my journey. I have no regrets because it wasn't me that turned my back," he added.
