Arsenal in Dream Team 2025/26: Top performers, smart selections & potential flops

The Sun5 days ago
ARSENAL have finished as Premier League runners-up for three consecutive seasons.
Silverware may have escaped the Gunners but Mikel Arteta's troops have provided Dream Team points in vast quantities and there's no reason to expect anything different in 2025/26.

Since Arsenal players are generally very popular, let's analyse their top performers, smart selections and potential flops ahead of Gameweek 1.
Top Performers
Bukayo Saka (£6.5m) will start the campaign as the outright most expensive midfielder in the game but with good reason.
Those a fraction cheaper than him all have minor caveats; Bruno Fernandes (£6m) is without European commitments, Cole Palmer (£6m) has struggled for goals since the turn of the year, and Florian Wirtz (£6m) is untested in English football.
Whereas Arsenal's No7 is a proven performer, with European fixtures, whose form has barely faltered since he became an established starter at his boyhood club.
He racked up 286 points via 12 goals and 17 assists last season, an astonishing return given he missed a third of the campaign through injury.
Saka is almost a must-have asset when fit.

The Gunners have conceded the fewest goals in each of the last two Premier League campaigns, hence why there is a premium attached to their defenders.
William Saliba (£5m) and Gabriel (£5m) virtually guarantee a steady stream of clean sheets and the latter's set-piece threat makes him a particularly inviting prospect.
Speaking of clean sheets, David Raya (£4.5m) shared the Golden Glove with Matz Sels (£3.5m) in 2024/25 but he was unrivalled at the top of the Dream Team goalkeeper rankings, finishing with a total of 259 points.
Some Dream Team bosses prefer to save budget between the sticks but the Spaniard is probably the best option for those prepared to spend a little more for a quality set-and-forget keeper.
Oh, we should mention Viktor Gyokeres (£6m) here too given he scored 54 goals in all competitions for Sporting CP last season.
The Swedish striker is certainly an exciting addition to the league.

Smart Selections
Myles Lewis-Skelly (£4m) has been recategorised as a defender this season, a change that boosts his viability considerably.
A midfielder by trade, the 18-year-old has been reinvented as a left-back and potentially offers an affordable route into Arsenal's parsimonious defence.
Lewis-Skelly had a few disciplinary issues during his breakout season but the main headline is that he established himself as a starter in the biggest games.
It's almost certainly too bold to suggest Ethan Nwaneri (£3.5m) as a selection for Gameweek 1 but he should be monitored closely.
The teenager is a prodigious talent who is expected to go from strength to strength.
He chipped in with a very useful nine goals last season and it wouldn't be all that surprising if, like Lewis-Skelly, he earned a run of starts at some stage.

Potential Flops
Both Ben White (£4m) and Jurrien Timber (£5m) have the potential to be top performers but the problem is that they may have to share right-back duties, limiting their individual minutes to a certain extent.
The Englishman has a good understanding with Saka and is therefore an asset going forward but the Dutchman is ultra solid in defence.
It may be that a clear pecking order emerges a few Gameweeks into the campaign but backing either from the very start feels like an unnecessary risk.
Lastly, it will be interesting to see how Kai Havertz (£4.5m) gets on this season.
The German forward scored 15 goals before a freak hamstring injury in training sidelined him for three months.
He returned more than his fair share of Dream Team points prior to that setback but what will his role be now Gyokeres has arrived at the Emirates?
If Havertz is now a second-stringer who will have to be content with substitute cameos and Carabao Cup starts, that will obviously damage his Dream Team appeal.
The same logic applies to Gabriel Jesus (£4m), who is still recovering from an ACL injury.

Rangers boss Martin has no regrets over brutal take-down of Ibrox stars... and insists he expects the right response in European tie against Plzen

Russell Martin insists he harbours no concerns about the possible impact of his scathing assessment of Rangers ' performance against Motherwell. Despite leading through skipper James Tavernier's early goal at Fir Park, the visitors were overrun in the second half and dropped two points on the Premiership's opening day when Emmanuel Longelo struck for the Steelmen with three minutes remaining. Pulling no punches afterwards, Martin questioned the mentality of many of his charges, accusing them slipping into 'self-preservation mode' and having 'too much ego'. Two days after the event, though, the 39-year-old was in no mood to take a backwards step. Declaring himself to be entirely comfortable with uttering such harsh words so early in the season, Martin said he wasn't concerned that his actions might have not the desired effect on certain individuals. 'I think if it has a detrimental effect on certain individuals, then they're probably not the ones we want to come on the journey with us,' he stated. 'So, I think if it has a detrimental effect on you and it hurts you to the point where you feel singled out, then there's probably an issue with you being all in at this place and this club and with us. 'I don't have any worry about it being detrimental on the team. Whenever I've questioned any of our teams in the past about attitude, the response has been fantastic. And then the problems have been maybe technical and ability. 'I've not said one thing addressing them and then told you (the media) another thing. 'So, I guess this is where you learn a lot about people. I'm really comfortable if I say that because I know where it comes from. It's not a concerted effort to out anyone or to try and beat someone. We're not. 'I think I'm just always going to be honest with the players and the supporters.' Martin also doesn't fear that one consequence of his words might be that the club becomes hampered with several unhappy players. 'No, I don't think so,' he added. 'There's plenty of time before the end of the window. 'I'm pretty sure all the players in here want to be part of something. And if not, at the end of it, if they don't want to be here, I don't want to force anyone to be at the football club. And it's up to their agents to find the right people for them and for us.' Since Saturday, the manager said he'd received a number of texts from people close to the club who fully approved of his decision to go public with his criticisms after just one league game. 'I had a lot of messages from people who were associated with this club who were really supportive of it,' he added. 'I think they understand when they've been in this building, they understand what's required and what quite hasn't quite been there over the last few seasons for whatever reason.' Martin yesterday completed the £3million signing of Oliver Antman, with the Finnish winger arriving from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles. Antman is the ninth recruit of the summer. Speaking to RangersTV, the 23-year-old said: 'When I first heard Rangers were interested I was excited. It's a huge club, one of the most successful clubs in Europe and the world, and you don't get this kind of opportunity many times in your life.' Rangers were last night trying to register Antman and Mikey Moore in time to face Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of the Champions League third round qualifier. Neither Hamza Igamane or Thelo Aasgaard are yet fit enough to be considered for tonight's clash. Meanwhile, Rangers will face Club Brugge or Salzburg in the play-off round if they can get past the Czechs. Either side would make for a tough opponent. The Belgians finished runners-up in their domestic league, won the Belgian Cup and reached the last 16 of the Champions League. Martin's men drew 2-2 with them in a pre-season friendly. Last season, Salzburg were also second in their league and finished third bottom of the 36-team Champions League group.

Raheem Sterling's latest brutal Chelsea snub proves there is no way back for him under Enzo Maresca - with forward training away from first-team squad

Raheem Sterling tops a list of nine Chelsea players who have been brutally banished from Enzo Maresca 's first-team - and from the club's website. Sterling, 30, and his fellow outcasts do not feature in Maresca's plans next season and as such, none of them have a profile or photo in the Blues' first-team section. The forward spent the previous campaign on loan at Arsenal and Chelsea are actively working to ship him out permanently during the summer window. He moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City just three years ago in a deal worth a little under £50million, having won four Premier League titles at the Etihad. However, his stint at Chelsea rapidly unfolded into a nightmare, resulting in him making a last-ditch switch to North London, where he scored one goal in 27 matches. Maresca has made it clear that Sterling is not included in his plans and the clock is now ticking as the Blues look to find buyers for their unwanted players. Mail Sport reported that those up for sale, such as Sterling and left back Ben Chilwell, are expected to continue training separately to Maresca's main group. Chelsea have spent big this summer, splashing the cash on forwards Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens from Brighton and Borussia Dortmund respectively. That resulted in Sterling slipping further away from the first-team picture - and off the website. Two other players who do not have profiles, Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu, are set to join Premier League newcomers Burnley after a day of breakthroughs. Their exact fees have not yet been confirmed but are likely to be around £20m each. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another on his way out. Indeed, as reported by Mail Sport, Everton began talks over a deal worth an inital £25m plus add-ons. The midfielder set Chelsea back £30m when they swooped to bring him in from Leicester City last season, but he made just two top-flight starts under Maresca. Academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist is also missing a first-team profile on the website, joining Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Renato Veiga and David Datro Fofana in the doldrums, and on the edge of Maresca's bloated senior group. Officially, there are 31 players currently listed as first-teamers. However, several big names who have made the cut could also find themselves leaving before the window slams shut on September 1, such as Christopher Nkunku. Mykhailo Mudryk has been given a profile photo despite being charged by the FA for violating its anti-doping rules after failing a drugs test. He faces a four-year ban. Mudryk has not played for Chelsea since November 28 and cannot train.
