Thomas Tuchel already eyeing England stay after World Cup despite dodgy start

Daily Mirror3 days ago

Thomas Tuchel has endured a tough week as England boss, following a lacklustre win over Andorra and the humiliating defeat to Senegal, but he is still consdering extending his reign
Thomas Tuchel insists that he is already 'tempted' to stay on as England boss after next year's World Cup. Tuchel is on a £5m-a-year contract for 18 months to lead England to the United States next summer with the clear instruction to lift the trophy.
But Tuchel says that he is already enjoying the job so much that he wants to stay on for the next Euros in 2028 which is being jointly hosted by the United Kingdom and Ireland.

England boss Tuchel said in an interview with talkSPORT: 'I will always be tempted to stay, because I love the group and I love the opportunity. It's an honour to be England's head coach.

'I know what is coming after the World Cup, a huge tournament in England. I will always be tempted. I can tell you that, even after the disappointing result yesterday.'
England lost to Senegal on Tuesday night but that has not put off Tuchel who added: 'If you ask me today, yes. Because, like I said, I feel that I am in the right place.

'I enjoy being where I am at the moment. I love the new challenge. I wanted a new challenge. I wanted a new environment. I feel the support, I feel the trust and the respect of the people in the federation.
"I love the group of players. I want to push them and it just feels right, so yeah, a clear yes from my side until today.'
Meanwhile, Tuchel also claimed that England simply cannot afford to be without Jordan Henderson despite the midfielder about to turn 35 next week. Henderson is not a popular choice among England fans but Tuchel says he is vital for the squad and team spirit.

Tuchel added: 'We were convinced about this move to bring him back and, since I met him in person and since I saw him, observed him in camp, I am more convinced than ever that he is a very, very important addition to this group.
'Especially when we talk about connections, especially when we talk about setting standards and keeping the group up to the standards, then he is, at the moment, the man I don't want to miss. He is still lean, he is still fit, he is still ready to push on a level that matches the international level.
'I am convinced he is still ambitious. He pushes the group, he takes care of training, he takes care of the attitude. He brings, actually, players together. So, we see different, best versions of players when Jordan is in camp, then if he is not in camp. That's all I can say.'

Jack Grealish sends seven word message from holiday after being axed by Man City

Jack Grealish was left out of the Manchester City squad that headed to the Club World Cup but he's determined to remain in top shape ahead of a potential transfer Jack Grealish has underlined his motivation and desire after posting a snap of himself on a run during the off-season. The Manchester City star is not with his team-mates at the Club World Cup after he was left out of the squad. It is the latest potentially telling blow for the £100million signing, who has continued to tumble down the pecking order with his minutes decreasing. Now there is talk of a summer exit for the ex-Aston Villa man with all parties keen to find a resolution. ‌ Grealish has attracted attention from fellow Premier League clubs and those overseas with permanent and loan moves both possible. Whatever happens the England international, who has fallen out of favour with his country, should be in stellar shape. ‌ He posted a picture of himself topless on Instagram after enjoying a run in the sun as he included words: "Late night runs on holiday. Feeling good". Pep Guardiola left Grealish out of the matchday squad for the final day of the season as City downed Fulham, but much of the talk post-match was the omission of the club's record signing, but the manager maintained there was no issue between the pair. READ MORE: Pep Guardiola makes Club World Cup admission and discusses Johann Cruyff influence He said: "It's nothing personal with Jack. I am the person who fought for him to come here and the person who fought for him to stay here this season and the next season. I am the one who said 'I want Jack Grealish '. Now he didn't come because he didn't come but not something else. What happens in the future is a job for Txiki [Begiristain], Hugo [Viana] and the agents." Grealish has previously been an influential figure on the blue side of Manchester and enjoyed his best year when the team claimed the treble. Since then his impact on games has decreased and new arrivals at the Etihad have hampered his game time. As a result he's no longer part of the England picture. Gareth Southgate left him out for last summer's Euros and now Thomas Tuchel is at the helm, but the former Chelsea boss insists he needs games to underline his worth and get back to his best. He said: "I love Jack for his personality and of course his talent. He is a very unique player who can handle big pressure on the field. He is never shy of pressure. It's the opposite. He grows in big matches but he's a player who needs minutes and minutes and minutes and simply does not get them for a very long time. That's basically everything. Nothing has changed."
