3 hockey trainers held for teen player's gang-rape
The survivor, who had been training at the centre for the past two years, had filed an FIR on Sunday night.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred on the evening of July 3, after a coaching session in a local stadium. The accused, aged 22, 26 and 27, allegedly took the girl to a lodge where they overpowered and gang-raped her. They reportedly threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident.
Following the FIR, police launched an investigation and arrested the three accused under Sections 70(2) (gang-rape), 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 35(2) (common intention to commit a crime) of the BNS, along with Section 6 of the Pocso Act. Investigation also revealed that one of the accused had allegedly raped the victim in March this year, the investigating officer said.
A court rejected their bail applications and remanded them in jail custody, police said.

State police cyber crime wing faces data breach, cops suspect sabotage
1 2 Kolkata: The Bengal Police has started an investigation after noticing that the state cyber crime wing (CCW) data centre, which is used for confidential cyber crime investigations, has been compromised. The police, who have already spoken to the private company that manages the data centre, are not prima facie convinced by their defence of a ransomware attack that led to the data-leak. They lodged an FIR with Bidhannagar cyber crime PS, suspecting that the data could also be compromised due to sabotage on the part of the private firm. "On July 28 morning, a total service disruption was reported. Officials of the private company who visited the site verbally claimed a ransomware attack encrypted all data and storage systems. Preliminary visual inspection revealed a ransom note. The CCW, however, suspects deliberate sabotage, noting that the vendor maintained exclusive remote access to the data centre during the attack," the complaint filed by the OC, computer cell of Cyber Crime Wing, stated. According to the complaint, the private firm was selected as the L1 bidder through an e-tender floated by Webel Technology Ltd in Dec 2023. The vendor was contracted to supply, install, and commission servers, storage, and software licences under the West Bengal Police's State Grid Project. The system was installed on Sept 30, 2024. "Despite repeated reminders and meetings, including a high-level discussion on July 25 at the DG & IGP Cyber Crime Wing's office, the officials allegedly refused to hand over administrative control and access credentials of the state's central data centre. Just two days later, on July 27, multiple districts reported VPN disconnections and access issues with the C5 application," the complaint said. According to sources, several officers have also been questioned for their alleged role in this breach, and some actions have been taken against some officials. "Multiple senior officers are also under lens," a senior state police officer said. Cops said the probe is on under multiple BNS sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal breach of trust alongside sections under the IT Act.

Drone rumours claim life in UP: Moblynches beggar mistaken for thief
Bareilly: A 50-year-old unidentified man, who was mistaken for a "drone" thief, was lynched by a mob in Bhojipura area of Bareilly district around 8.30 pm on Thursday. Police said six to eight locals were involved in the brutal assault which left the victim -- presumed to be a "mentally-ill beggar" from some other village -- unconscious with severe head injuries and bruises all over the body. Hospital authorities later declared him dead. There has been a rising paranoia of "drone theft" in several parts of UP. Villagers have been conducting night patrols armed with sticks, torches and even airguns in response to low-flying drone sightings -- some of them rumours while a few others cases of unmanned aerial vehicles operated by govt departments for surveying or welfare work. Thursday night's incident is said to be the "first such death in the state caused by drone theft rumours". "The man, who was shabbily dressed, was slapped, kicked and punched several times by the locals. He was initially allowed to go, but again stopped by the same group when he didn't reveal his identity. When they again started assaulting him, a security guard alerted cops. However, by the time local police arrived, the man was already unconscious. Woman sets herself, her 3-year-old son ablaze in Kapurthala village, both die
Distressed by harassment by her in-laws, a 26-year-old woman allegedly set herself and her three-year-old son ablaze at Kala Sanghian village on Kapurhala-Nakodar road on Thursday, police said.
