Police urge public vigilance and cooperation
The police in Sebokeng are appealing to all community members to take safety precautions during this season. This follows a noticeable increase in house robberies, kidnappings, and armed robberies. Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone is urging residents to remain alert at all times and to avoid sharing personal financial details or their daily movements in public. According to Kubone, doing so may put individuals at greater risk, as criminals often use this information to plan their attacks. According to the police, criminals are constantly changing their modus operandi. 'Recently, criminals have been targeting homes where cars are parked outside while people are gathering, households with pensioners expecting payouts, individuals awaiting Road Accident Fund payments, and families who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one. 'In these cases, victims are often forced to download banking apps, and funeral or insurance payouts are then fraudulently transferred to unknown accounts.' The police encourage anyone in danger to shout for help, blow a whistle if possible, and contact police in Sebokeng immediately on 016 466 2047, 082 498 9563, 112, 10111, 08600 10111, or via MySAPS App., national emergency lines, or the MySAPS mobile app. Kubone urges members of the community to stay cautious and work together with the police to help prevent crime during this challenging time. Ward committee member, municipal driver nabbed for diesel theft in Umbumbulu
TWO men, a Ward 96 committee member and an eThekwini Municipality water tanker driver, were arrested in Sawpits, Umbumbulu, for allegedly siphoning diesel from a municipal water tanker recently. Also read: Man arrested for cable theft in Isipingo The arrests follow an investigation by the city's Integrity and Investigations Directorate, which had received several reports about municipal truck drivers offloading diesel at a private property in the area. The operation, led by the director of the unit, Jimmy Ngcobo, resulted in the discovery of multiple 25-litre containers filled with diesel at the scene. The fuel was allegedly being resold for R400 per container to a local truck owner. 'The culprits were found in a private house offloading diesel. It is clear that they have been frequenting this property. The containers were confiscated and handed over to the police for evidence,' said Ngcobo. A criminal case of diesel theft was opened at the Umbumbulu police station. The suspects, who also allegedly attempted to bribe officials with R50 000, have since appeared in court. Ngcobo commended the community for reporting the illegal activities. 'We are dealing with fraud and corruption activities, and we are in pursuit of other culprits. This is a clear misuse of municipal resources,' he said. He confirmed that the suspects had previously been under investigation for allegedly selling water directly from municipal tankers. The municipality has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on the abuse of public resources and continues to clamp down on corruption within its structures. Members of the public are encouraged to report fraud and corruption by emailing [email protected] or by calling 0800 20 20 20.
