Police urge public vigilance and cooperation

The Citizena day ago
The police in Sebokeng are appealing to all community members to take safety precautions during this season. This follows a noticeable increase in house robberies, kidnappings, and armed robberies.
Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone is urging residents to remain alert at all times and to avoid sharing personal financial details or their daily movements in public. According to Kubone, doing so may put individuals at greater risk, as criminals often use this information to plan their attacks.
According to the police, criminals are constantly changing their modus operandi.
'Recently, criminals have been targeting homes where cars are parked outside while people are gathering, households with pensioners expecting payouts, individuals awaiting Road Accident Fund payments, and families who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one.
'In these cases, victims are often forced to download banking apps, and funeral or insurance payouts are then fraudulently transferred to unknown accounts.'
The police encourage anyone in danger to shout for help, blow a whistle if possible, and contact police in Sebokeng immediately on 016 466 2047, 082 498 9563, 112, 10111, 08600 10111, or via MySAPS App., national emergency lines, or the MySAPS mobile app.
Kubone urges members of the community to stay cautious and work together with the police to help prevent crime during this challenging time.

Kruger shoot-out: Suspected poacher killed, 2 flee after clash with rangers

The body of an alleged poacher was found in the Kruger National Park on Saturday. Lowvelder reports that, according to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the body was found at about 08:30. It is suspected that he was killed during an exchange with field rangers the previous night at around 21:00. Ndubane said that, according to a report, three field rangers were on patrol in the Nwari block that night when they encountered three suspected poachers. The rangers ordered them to stop, but the suspects allegedly opened fire. Rangers reportedly fired back, and a shoot-out ensued. The alleged poachers are said to have fled into the vegetation, and due to poor light, the rangers abandoned their pursuit and returned to the camp. Ndubane said the next morning, the rangers returned to the scene to continue searching for the suspects while patrolling the surrounding areas. 'It was during this time that they discovered the lifeless body of a male with a gunshot wound in the Lower Sabie region of the park. There was a backpack next to him. Police from Skukuza, as well as other role-players, were immediately notified, and the man was certified dead by paramedics at the scene,' Ndubane said, adding that two rhino horns were found inside the backpack. The deceased has not been identified, and the other two suspected poachers remain at large. An investigation is underway.
