Sales agency Luxbox has boarded Simón Mesa Soto's 'A Poet,' which has been selected to world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival.
The drama, shot in Medellin, Colombia, follows Oscar Restrepo, whose obsession with poetry has brought him no glory. Aging and erratic, he has succumbed to the cliché of the poet in the shadows. Meeting Yurlady, a teenage girl from humble roots, and helping her cultivate her talent brings some light to his days. But dragging her into the world of poets may not be the way.

'A Poet' is Soto's second feature film after 'Amparo,' which was presented at Cannes Critics' Week in 2021 and won the Louis Roedered Foundation Rising Star Award for the actress Sandra Melissa Torres.
Both his short films, 'Mother' (2016) and 'Leidi' (2014) competed in Cannes and 'Leidi' won the short film Palme d'Or.
The producers on 'A Poet' are Juan Sarmiento G. (Medio de Contención Producciones, Colombia); Manuel Ruiz Montealegre (Medio de Contención Producciones, Colombia); and Simón Mesa Soto (Ocúltimo, Colombia).
The coproducers are Katharina Bergfeld (Majade Fiction, Germany); David Herdies (Momento Film, Sweden); Michael Krotkiewski (Momento Film/Film i Väst, Sweden); and Heino Deckert (Ma.ja.de. Fiction/ZDF Das kleine Fernsehspiel/ARTE, Germany).
The cast is led by Ubeimar Rios, Rebeca Andrade and Guillermo Cardona.
Luxbox's CEO Fiorella Moretti and head of international sales Jennyfer Gautier in a joint statement said: 'We felt instantly struck by the singular vision of the director and the beauty in the film. 'A Poet' is bold, intimate, and quietly subversive. The film navigates contemporary and deeply human themes with a touch of lightness and unexpected humor. We were especially drawn to how it explores the desire to create, and how its central character finds glimmers of hope in an often unforgiving world.'
Sarmiento G. said: 'Simon's vision is unique, sarcastic and uncompromising, he tackles a wide variety of subjects and is unafraid of approaching them with a sense of humor and tragedy alike. We look forward to be premiering Simon's latest work in Cannes' official selection once again.'
Soto said: 'Luxbox has an amazing catalog of amazing films and they carefully handpicked just a few each year so that they can devote all their efforts to them. We want our film to be seen by many and I believe Fiorella and her team will help us reach a wider audience.'

"She's Got No Name" unveils first official poster

6 Jun - Two years after the first announcement, Peter Chan's "She's Got No Name" finally unveiled the first official poster for the first part of the movie. The poster reveals the looks of all the cast for the first time, sparking interests of fans who mostly commented that all of the actors seemed unrecognisable and are truly immersed in their characters. This includes lead actress Zhang Ziyi, whose character has scars covering her face; Yang Mi looking dishevelled in her character as a female prisoner, Jackson Yee in shades and equipped with a cane as a blind fortune teller, as well as Zanilia Zhao, looking glamorous as a writer. Fans also couldn't help but notice that both Zanilia and Yang Mi are placed on each side of the poster. The decision seemed to be a way to avoid the fandom of both actresses from arguing on who is the bigger star. Since the film debuted in the non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival last year, there has been no further news until it was recently announced as the opening film of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival. What is noteworthy is that the film has recently been announced to be divided into two parts, the first of which has the Chinese title of "Jiangyuan Lane: Mystery". Dakota Johnson Is Finally Directing Her First Feature-Length Movie With 'Cha Cha Real Smooth' Creator!

In 2022, Dakota Johnson starred alongside Vanessa Burghardt in the rom-com Cha Cha Real Smooth, playing a young mother to a teenage daughter on the autism spectrum. Now, the pair plans to work together again, with Dakota stepping behind the camera this time. The announcement came at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Dakota, who co-owns TeaTime Pictures, began discussing her production company's upcoming projects and revealed how she intends to direct her first feature, which was written by Vanessa. "The girl who plays my daughter [in Cha Cha Real Smooth], Vanessa Burghardt, she is an autistic actress and musician and brilliant person, and we have been working with her on developing a script," she said at the Kering Women in Motion event. (via Deadline) "She's written a script, and it's really special, and it's about a young woman with autism. I feel very protective of her and her story in her mind; she's just an unbelievable woman. I just don't think I could allow anyone else to direct it. So we'll see." Dakota and former Netflix development executive Ro Donelly launched TeaTime Pictures in 2019. During the Kering's Women in Motion conversation, she spoke alongside Ro and said she wants to "make my own movies because I want more from this industry." "I want more from my experience as an artist. I felt so thirsty for more conversation and more creativity and more collaboration," she added. Loser Baby marked Dakota's first directorial short, but following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, the work wasn't picked up as a TV show. The short film, set in Los Angeles, centered around queer friends, exploring their relationships, friendships, and personal identities. According to , Dakota expressed frustration that "nobody" wanted to make it. "And I was like, 'Why? That's such a global conversation, and it should be talked about all the time,' but whatever. So it was a proof of concept that just is sitting there, proofing," she stated. Dakota is currently at Cannes to promote Splitsville, a rom-com she co-produced and stars in. She plays a woman named Julie, who's in an open relationship and helps her male friend get over a breakup. Other cast members include Adria Arjona and Michael Angelo Covino. Splitsville made its debut at the festival on May 19. It remains to be seen if and when Dakota will actually begin production for Vanessa Burghardt's script. In the meantime, you can look forward to seeing the actress in various works. First, her romantic drama, Materialists, is set to come out on June 13. Dakota depicts a young New York City matchmaker who is torn between her ex, portrayed by Chris Evans, and a new match, played by Pedro Pascal. Then, she is going to star in Verity, directed by Michael Showalter. The highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's hit book isn't expected to premiere until 2026. George Clooney's Theory About The Future Of ‘Trumpism' Doubles As A Diss To The GOP

Love him or hate him, President Donald Trump is a vibe — and George Clooney thinks that'll contribute to MAGA's eventual downfall. On Wednesday, Clooney was asked by CNN's Anderson Cooper if he thinks 'Trumpism' will endure after Trump's term is up. 'I don't think so,' Clooney said. 'I think it would be very hard to do it.' The actor, who is currently starring in the Broadway rendition of 'Good Night, and Good Luck,' then went on to offer up his theory on why he thinks MAGA will fizzle out in 2028. 'Remember this, Donald Trump is a celebrity. That's what he is. I mean, he's got a star on Hollywood Boulevard,' Clooney said. Clooney continued, 'He's a celebrity, and he's the president of the United States, and so he has been elected, duly elected. Fair deal, I'm not complaining about that. …That's how this democracy works. But he's also a celebrity, and he is charming. And to the people who like him, they think he's funny. To a great many others, they don't.' Clooney then went on to diss the entirety of the Republican Party while concluding his argument. 'And so when he is finished — and he will be finished — they're going to have to go looking for someone who can deliver the message that he delivered with the same kind of charisma,' Clooney said. 'And they don't have that.' Although Clooney could be right, he's not exactly a reliable fortune teller. In May 2016, when Trump was campaigning for the presidency, the 'Up in the Air' star told an audience at the Cannes Film Festival 'there's not going to be a President Donald Trump.' 'That's not going to happen,' Clooney said with a laugh. 'Fear is not going to be what drives our country.'
