Madonna urges Pope Leo to go to Gaza
In a plea shared on her social media, the Like a Prayer singer said the pontiff is "the only one of us who cannot be denied entry".
The star's plea follows a recent strike that killed a prominent Al Jazeera correspondent, Anas al-Sharif, and four of his colleagues, who were sheltering outside al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City on Sunday night.

Their deaths have been condemned by the United Nations, the EU, and media rights groups.
In her post, Madonna said: "Most Holy Father, please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it's too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering.
"The children of the world belong to everyone.
"You are the only one of us who cannot be denied entry.
"We need the humanitarian gates to be fully opened to save these innocent children.
"There is no more time. Please say you will go. Love, Madonna."

In the caption of her post, Madonna said it was her son Rocco's birthday and that "the best gift I can give to him as a Mother - is to ask everyone to do what they can to help save the innocent children caught in the crossfire in Gaza."
She added: "I am not pointing fingers, placing blame or taking sides. Everyone is suffering. Including the mothers of the hostages. I pray that they are released as well."
The singer also asked for donations to three different organisations.
Pope Leo has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza
In July, Pope Leo renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, asking the international community to respect international laws and the obligation to protect civilians.
"I appeal to the international community to observe humanitarian law and respect the obligation to protect civilians as well as the prohibition of collective punishment, the indiscriminate use of force, and the forced displacement of populations," he said.

Watch the moment Brooklyn Beckham ‘proposes' to Nicola Peltz before vow renewal as fans demand he drops the family name
BROOKLYN Bekcham was seen in a video proposing to Nicola Peltz before their vow renewal, and fans have demanded he drops the family name. None of the Beckhams were invited to the lavish ceremony on August 2 — presided over by Nicola's billionaire dad Nelson — and only read about it on an American website. 5 Brooklyn Bekcham was seen in a video proposing to Nicola Peltz before their vow renewal Credit: @nicolapeltzbeckham/TikTok 5 Fans have demanded he drops the family name Credit: @nicolapeltzbeckham/TikTok 5 The Beckhams weren't invited to the lavish ceremony Credit: AFP Brooklyn's original wedding with Nicola took place on Nelson's estate in Palm Beach, Florida, with Brooklyn's sister Harper among the bridesmaids, and he proposed to Nicola in 2020 by a lake. But ahead of their vow renewal, which has been branded a 'gratuitous display of wealth,' Brooklyn proposed to his wife for a second time. Nicola shared a romantic clip of Brooklyn getting down on one knee in a white t-shirt and jeans in a summer house by a lake. She captioned the video: 'We showed our friends how he proposed,' and Nicola could be seen in a baggy t-shirt looking delighted at her husband's romantic gesture. But fans were left outraged by the post, as they demand they drop the Beckham surname. One person wrote: 'I don't understand why you have the Beckham name when you hate them so much.' A second penned: 'Drop the Beckham name if you're going to ignore them and snub them from everything.' Someone else questioned: 'Why have you kept the Beckham surname?' A source close to the Beckhams says the family has questioned Brooklyn's need to renew his vows after just three years. Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz 'renew wedding vows' after 3 years of marriage One friend said: 'They would understand if it was, say, 10 years down the line - maybe even five. But three?! It seems like quite a gratuitous display of obscene wealth. "Also, if Brooklyn wanted to create a really cute memory, why couldn't he have just let his family know their plans first? 'To be honest, although there have been moments of rapprochement, this hostility dates back to 2021, around six months before the original wedding. "The dynamics have just never really gelled. 'Of course David and Victoria want Brooklyn to be happy and clearly he is wildly in love still, but a lot of people have been hurt. "It is a very sad situation and everyone fears there is no way back now. It is done.' It was also revealed that even Brooklyn's grandparents were excluded from the special day - despite their close relationship. This week, a source said: 'This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. 'Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. "Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. 'His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them. 'It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. 'This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy - and see no way back. "Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the 'Beckham' surname - will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 - is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? 'It certainly feels like it.' 5 The vow renewal has been branded a 'gratuitous display of wealth'

From Goals to Gold: Ronaldo's engagement ring has a champion's price tag
Cristiano Ronaldo's engagement ring that he used to propose to his girlfriend reportedly cost millions. The Al-Nassr winger announced his engagement to his partner Georgina Rodriguez on Monday (August 11), and in true Ronaldo fashion, didn't do anything in half measures — namely the ring, which was, to put it lightly, massive. With the couple being together for nine years, the ring has been obviously a massive talking point, with some jewellers reckoning that it could cost nearly $5million (€4.2million). No details of the ring have been revealed at the time of writing, but several jewellers and diamond connoisseurs have reckoned that the ring cost millions. Tobias Kormind, director of 77 Diamonds in London, claimed to People magazine that the oval cut diamond is around 37 carats, and is worth a massive £3.7million (€4.2million), while Loren Diamonds' Laura Taylor reckoned that the diamonds range between 15-20 carats, for a more *ahem* 'affordable' price of over £1.5million (€1.73million). Another jeweller and diamond aficionado in Julia Chafe added that the ring is still worth an estimated £2.2million (€2.5million). Georgina Rodriguez's engagement ring is rumoured to cost between €1.7million to €4.2million. Pic: Georgina Rodriguez/Instagram Despite the unconfirmed value of the giant rock, people still found the ring remarkable; with Ronaldo's now fiancée sharing a photo of her holding up the ring on Instagram, saying in the post 'yes I do. In this and all my lives.' The couple met in 2016 when Georgina, a dancer and model, worked at a Gucci store. They share five children together — three of whom were born via two separate surrogate mothers — with them tragically losing their baby boy, who was set to be one half of twins, in 2022. The couple said at the time that 'only the birth of our baby girl gives us strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.' Ronaldo and Georgina have been together since 2016. Pic: Instagram Ronaldo, one of the most recognisable footballers in the world, recently signed a new contract with Al-Nassr, his current club in Saudi Arabia, which will see the 40-year-old stay on until the 2027 season. He's also expected to play in the World Cup in 2026 with Portugal. What do we think? Has Ronaldo set off a new wedding trend or are we not loving it?
