Heartbreak for 90s boy band as sole survivor pays moving tribute
LFO once topped the charts with carefree summer anthems, but behind the music lies a story of unimaginable loss.
They may not have reached the heights of *NSYNC or Backstreet Boys, but in the late '90s, LFO made their mark with the infectiously catchy hit Summer Girls .
The song, packed with pop culture references and teen nostalgia, became an anthem of its era. Its music video, filmed at Coney Island's beach and boardwalk in 1999, captured the carefree vibe of youth. But behind the scenes, no one could have foreseen the heartbreak that would eventually shadow the band's legacy.
Of the original members, only one remains. Brad Fischetti, now 49, continues to perform in memory of his fallen bandmates through a tribute project called The LFO Story . Recently, he moved audiences in Celebration, Florida, with a powerful performance honoring the band's legacy, reports the Mirror.
LFO — short for Lyte Funkie Ones — was formed in 1995 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, when Brad and Rich Cronin teamed up with Brian "Brizz" Gillis. The group struggled to find its footing until a turning point in 1999, when Brizz left and Devin Lima joined. That year, they soared to fame with Summer Girls , which hit No. 1 in the U.S. and climbed to No. 16 in the UK charts.
The song became iconic for its quirky lyrics referencing everything from Cherry Coke and Abercrombie & Fitch to Macaulay Culkin and New Kids on the Block. Their popularity peaked in 2000 when LFO won a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Group, performed more than 230 shows, opened for Britney Spears, and even launched a line of dolls in 2001.
But like many pop acts of the era, their second album failed to capture the same magic, and they disbanded in 2002.

Rich Cronin later faced a fierce battle with leukemia. After undergoing treatment, he expressed gratitude for his time in the spotlight, saying, 'I am truly thankful for the success I had. And if it happens again, that'd be really nice.' He added with a touch of humor, 'I still only like girls in Abercrombie and Fitch.'
In 2009, LFO briefly reunited. Though their bond had been tested in the past, Rich, Brad, and Devin found renewed closeness. 'He was so happy,' Brad recalled in 2010. 'Devin and I both realized how much we loved him.' Tragically, Rich's health declined once more, and he passed away in September 2010 at the age of 36.
In 2017, Brad and Devin released a new LFO song—their first in 15 years—in Rich's memory. But just months later, more devastating news came. Devin was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. Despite undergoing surgery to remove a massive tumor and one of his kidneys, he died a year later in 2018 at the age of 41, leaving behind a partner and six children.
The tragedies didn't end there. In March 2023, original member Brizz passed away at 48. His family chose not to disclose the cause of death.
Now, Brad Fischetti stands alone as the last living member of LFO. But he remains determined to keep their story alive. After a recent LFO Story show, he shared on Instagram: "We honored the boys in a big way. The LFO Story show last week was beautiful and epic. Thank you for the love and support. The biggest thanks to Rich and Devin for leaving a beautiful legacy behind. We will nurture it and honor you for as long as the people will allow us to."
Fans were quick to express their emotions online. One wrote, 'Devin and Rich are there in spirit and are proud of you @thereallfo.' Another commented, 'Those guys are extremely missed.'

Dear Coleen: I'm unsure how to act when my teenager starts having sex
Dear Coleen, My 16-year-old daughter has a boyfriend and they've been dating for a couple of months. He's lovely and I know his parents to say hello to and the whole family seem so nice. However, I'm struggling to know how to cope with the sex stuff when it happens. I'm not naïve enough to think they're not doing things already or thinking about having sex but I don't really know what I should be doing, if anything. I'm not prudish but she's our only child, so I'm in unchartered waters. We've always been open about awkward subjects, so she's pretty open with us, too. I'm anticipating she might ask if he can stay over at our house and I don't know what to say to that. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! When I think back to when I was her age, I remember trying to out-manoeuvre my parents and find places to be alone with my boyfriend. How did you cope with all of this with your kids? Coleen says You're on a winning streak already if you have the kind of relationship with your daughter where you're comfortable talking about stuff. Why not say something like, 'I don't know if you're having sex or thinking about it but I'm here to talk to if ever you need me'? The main thing is letting her know that she mustn't be afraid to confide in you and it opens the door to discussing all the important issues around sex. I've always had very open relationships with my kids – there's nothing we can't talk about. But I've still found out things I didn't know were going on when they were teens. We have to accept that teenagers don't want to share everything with their parents and that's fine, as long as they can ask for support when they need it without you flying off the handle. As far as sleeping over, that's a personal thing. You could say he can stay on the couch or in the spare room (just expect they might sneak around at night because that's what I did!) But if you think by not letting them sleep in your house they're not going to have sex, you're wrong. If they want to do it, they'll find somewhere else. It is a weird moment as a parent when your child's partner stays over but it's weird for them, too. I think when they're in an established relationship with someone, it feels different, and you'll probably find that things work out naturally over time.

Edinburgh crowd goes wild as Michelle McManus join Robbie Williams for special duet
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Robbie Williams' fans were left gobsmacked on Saturday night when Pop Idol sensation Michelle McManus made a surprise appearance on stage with the Rock DJ singer. The unexpected duet took place as Robbie launched his Britpop tour at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium. Michelle, originally from Baillieston and winner of Pop Idol in 2003, joined her old mate Robbie to perform a duet of Relight My Fire to a crowd of 70,000 at Murrayfield. Their joint performance of the song, famously covered by Take That in 1993, thrilled fans who gave the pair a standing ovation. Robbie's setlist for the evening included all his biggest hits such as She's The One, Feel, Angels and Let Me Entertain You, making it an unforgettable night for his dedicated followers. (Image: Instagram/Michelle McManus) Before her performance, Michelle, 45, admitted she was more nervous about singing in front of Robbie than she had been when she performed for the Pope. She confessed: "My happy place is when I sing, so the singing part is not the problem. "The nervous part is singing to Robbie Williams in front of 70,000 people.", reports the Daily Record. "When we did the Pope's visit in Bellahouston, it was 80,000-but singing for a bunch of cardinals and a Pope was slightly different from singing for Robbie Williams." Back in March, it was revealed that Robbie, 51, had surprised Michelle with an invitation to sing with him during her BBC Scotland Radio show. In a surprising turn during their interview, Robbie popped the question: "Would you like to come and sing with me in Edinburgh?". Michelle was clearly taken aback, as she asked in disbelief: "Sorry... What? What was that?". Without hesitation, she excitedly accepted his invitation, saying: "Yes, I'm saying yes-I would love that. You are amazing. And you are an incredible human being. I meant every word I said before this even came up." Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sentstraight to your messages. Following their impromptu duet, Michelle took to Instagram to share a picture from their onstage collaboration, succinctly captioning it: "This diva though." Robbie didn't hold back on social media either, posting multiple images from his electrifying performance that night. He captured a particularly daring moment with the photo showing him suspended headfirst above the audience, accompanied by the caption: "Scotland – I love you. That was an incredible opening night. Until next time. Rob x".

Record numbers turn out for Aberdeen's Kiltwalk
A record breaking 6,000 people strode out on two routes to Duthie Park in the city, raising more than £1.2 million in donations for 500 charities. The streets of Aberdeen turned tartan today as thousands took part in this year's Kiltwalk. A record breaking 6,000 people strode out on two routes to Duthie Park in the city, raising more than £1.2 million in donations for 500 charities. The majority set off from Bellfield Park in Banchory at 9am on Super Sunday for the 18-mile Mighty Stride while 1,300 Wee Wanderers set off from Cults Academy to make the four-mile trek to the beauty spot, winding their way alongside the River Dee. Since it was set up by Sir Tom Hunter 10 years ago, Kiltwalk has raised £54 million. Kiltwalk CEO Paul Cooney, said: 'It's incredible that 517 charities here in the North East of Scotland will benefit from today's efforts. Charities of all sizes; the biggest with 325 supporters to countless smaller charities - each with one or two walkers. Every penny, every pound raised plus Gift Aid goes to the causes chosen by the walkers. 'Last year's Aberdeen Kiltwalk raised £1.1 million and we are set to raise even more this year. And Kiltwalk, now in its tenth year since it was rescued by The Hunter Foundation, founded by Sir Tom Hunter, has raised £54.7 million for 4,000 Scottish charities since 2016. 'Thank you for your Kiltwalk kindness.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. All Aberdeen Kiltwalkers who registered and fundraised are in with a chance of winning a car worth £30,000 thanks to headline sponsor Arnold Clark. Russell Borrie, Chief Executive Officer of Arnold Clark, said: 'The Kiltwalk continues to make a huge difference to so many communities across Scotland, bringing people together to raise vital funds for charities close to their hearts.' The Kiltwalk also provided four lucky local charities with an additional £5,000 as part of 'the happiest minute at the Kiltwalk'. They were: SensationALL, which offers specially designed play activities, social groups and practical support for people with neurodivergent or complex conditions across northeast Scotland; Charlie House, which helps improve the quality of life for babies, children and young people in the North-east of Scotland with life-limiting conditions; Friends of ANCHOR, established to support patients and staff at Aberdeen's cancer and haematology centre and Kayleigh's Wee Stars, which provides vital financial support to families where a child has a terminal illness, helping them make precious memories during the most difficult times. This year, Kiltwalk is also supporting Sir Chris Hoy's Tour de Four charity cycling event, established by the six-time Olympic gold medallist following his diagnosis of Stage 4 prostate cancer. This means anyone who chooses to walk for Kiltwalk itself in 2025 will see everything they raise, plus eligible Gift Aid, go to five cancer charities nominated by Sir Chris Hoy. The charities are Breast Cancer Now, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Maggie's and Prostate Cancer UK. Next up is St Andrews to Dundee on Sunday, August 17, and Edinburgh on Sunday, September 14.
