Saturday morning Edmonton crash the second speed-related fatal in a day
Speed is a factor in two fatal Edmonton collisions in less than 24 hours, the latest early Saturday in west Edmonton when the driver lost control and struck a tree.
The driver of a black BMW heading south on 142 Street near 90 Avenue around 3:15 a.m. died at the scene, police said in a news release just before 7 a.m. Saturday.
The driver was the only person in the vehicle, police said.
The city police Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) expected to remain on scene for several hours, shutting down 142 Street from 87 Avenue to 91 Avenue.
Investigators say speed is believed to be a factor in the collision as well as a fatal north Edmonton crash Friday morning in which a 71-year-old man died when his car was struck by an SUV being driven by a 16-year-old male.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed or has dash camera or other video footage of either collision to contact the police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.

Man's body found in industrial bin
A man's body has been discovered inside an industrial bin at a business in Tasmania. Emergency services were called to the premises on Percy St at Bellerive near Hobart about 9am on Monday. Kaʻaʻawa collision leaves three in serious condition
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to a three-car collision in the Kaʻaʻawa area shortly after 3 p.m. on June 1. According to first responders, a 25-year-old male was one of four patients examined at the scene. Miss Hawaiʻi crowns new queen: Miss Kaneʻohe A 21-year-old male, a 56-year-old female and a male estimated to be 40 were also examined at the scene. Man dies from injuries following a fight inside a Phoenix motel room, PD says

Police say the person who stabbed him is claiming self-defense and has been released from detainment. PHOENIX - A man was found unresponsive in a Phoenix motel room after being stabbed on Saturday, and died at the hospital not long after, police said. What we know He was reportedly stabbed on May 31 at around 3:45 p.m. at an unspecified hotel near 7th Street and I-17 in central Phoenix. "When officers arrived, they were directed to a room where an unresponsive man was found on the ground with obvious signs of injuries. The fire department treated the man and transported him to the hospital where he later died. A second man was found on the motel grounds and was detained by officers after he was pointed out by several witnesses. The man also had obvious signs of injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment," Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky said. Investigators say it appears there was a fight between the two men inside the room, and that both men were using items inside the room as weapons, leading to the stabbing. "The surviving male was interviewed and provided detectives a self-defense claim. The details from the initial investigation were shared with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. In consultation with the County Attorney, the man was released pending the outcome of the case. A charging decision will be made at the conclusion of the investigation. Any additional information is part of an ongoing investigation," Sgt. Krynsky said. What we don't know Police didn't release any names in this case, but said the man who died is in his early 50s. Investigators didn't say why the men were fighting in the first place.
