Schwarber hits his 42nd homer in a 4-run 8th inning as the Phillies rally past the Reds
Schwarber's 42nd homer moved him past Shohei Ohtani and into the NL lead. The Dodgers faced the Angels later Monday night. Seattle's Cal Raleigh leads the AL and MLB with 45 homers. Schwarber has 97 RBIs this season.
Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott (8-3) allowed only three hits through seven innings. But, with two outs in the eighth, he allowed RBI doubles by Weston Wilson and Trea Turner. Schwarber followed with a two-run shot off Tony Santillan to complete the rally.
Abbott bounced back after a rough outing on Wednesday when he allowed four earned runs and a pair of homers in a 6-1 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Against the Phillies, he retired the first 12 batters he faced before J.T. Realmuto doubled leading off the fifth.
YANKEES 6, TWINS 2
NEW YORK (AP) — Will Warren gave up three hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings to become the first New York starting pitcher to get an out in the seventh inning in a month in a win over Minnesota.
Warren (7-5), who allowed homers to Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach, struck out seven and walked none before Luke Weaver and David Bednar finished off New York's 23rd win in its last 30 regular-season meetings with Minnesota.
Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice homered against Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews (3-4).
Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in the eighth after Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge hit RBI singles in the seventh.
CARDINALS 3, ROCKIES 2
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Brendan Donovan hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning, Miles Mikolas didn't give up a hit through 5 1/3 innings, and St. Louis sent Colorado to their eighth straight loss.
Juan Mejia (1-1) failed to hold a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning, while Kyle Leahy (3-1) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings after Mikolas went 6 2/3 innings, his longest outing of the season.
Mikolas was positioned for a loss after Warming Bernabel and Brenton Doyle drove in runs in the seventh inning to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead. Tyler Freeman broke up Mikolas' no-hit bid in the sixth inning. He gave up four hits, a walk and struck out three.
Mikolas lost his shot at a win after Jordan Beck bunted his way on and advanced to second on Nolan Gorman's throwing error. Doyle drove home Mickey Moniak to put the Rockies ahead.
Chase Dollander allowed one run through five innings, the first Rockies starter since Aug. 2 to allow fewer than five runs.
BREWERS 7, PIRATES 1
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brice Turang hit his first career leadoff home run, Jose Quintana allowed three hits over six solid innings and Milwaukee extended their winning streak to 10 games with a win over Pittsburgh.
Quintana (10-4) struck out three and walked one as the Brewers (74-44) improved to 25-4 over the last 29 games, including 13-1 in the last 14. The only real hiccup was Joey Bart's home run in the third.
Turang sent a sinker from Pirates starter Andrew Heaney over the wall in left center.
Christian Yelich opened the third with a solo home run, RBI singles from Sal Frelick and Brandon Lockridge and an unearned run on Bart's throwing error capped the third inning.
Grant Anderson held the Pirates without a hit in the seventh and eighth. Shelby Miller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
ROYALS 7, NATIONALS 4
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvadore Perez and Kyle Isbel hit two-run homers in the sixth inning and Kansas City beat Washington.

Perez homered off rookie Cade Cavalli after Maikel Garcia drew a leadoff walk, tying the game at 4. Adam Frazier singled, chasing Cavalli, and Jackson Rutledge (1-2) entered and retired Randal Grichuk on a double-play grounder. Nick Loftin had a two-out single before scoring on Isbel's fourth homer. Perez's homer was his 21st.
James Wood walked leading off the first against Bailey Falter in his home debut for the Royals after being acquired from the Pirates at the trade deadline. Josh Bell hit his 15th homer — a 422-foot, two-out shot to left-center — to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead.
Garcia, Perez and Frazier had consecutive singles to start the second for the Royals' first run. Loftin's sacrifice fly tied it 2-all.
Falter left a tie game after four innings and 76 pitches. Wood singled off Daniel Lynch IV (4-2) leading off the fifth and Paul DeJong hit his fourth homer one out later to put the Nationals up 4-2.
Mike Yastrzemski added a run in the eighth with a sac fly. Frazier finished 3 for 4 and Carlos Estévez pitched the ninth for his 30th save.

Jets' Justin Fields says his focus on his faith the past 6 months has helped him shake off criticism
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Justin Fields heard all the criticisms — and occasional kudos — that came his way from fans and media during his first four NFL seasons. The New York Jets quarterback would let it affect him, too. It would even shape his own opinions about his play and abilities. No more. 'I just let people be and let them speak,' Fields said after a joint practice with the Giants on Tuesday. 'That's not going to affect me whatsoever.' But it used to, he acknowledged. 'I would say I just kind of got like this the past six months, to be honest with you,' Fields said. It was a somewhat surprising revelation from Fields, given the ups and downs he has had during his NFL journey since being the 11th overall pick by Chicago out of Ohio State in 2021. He went from the hopeful franchise quarterback of the Bears to out the door after only three seasons, traded to Pittsburgh last year. He started for an injured Russell Wilson and went 4-2 in six games for the Steelers before seeing the bench again in favor of the veteran — who's also now in New York, but with the Giants. During this past offseason, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets — who immediately labeled him their new starter. Coach Aaron Glenn has regularly praised Fields' confidence and maturity, calling him 'a mature man' Tuesday and adding that 'the outside noise does not bother him.' That, however, has been a process. 'A lot's gone into that, to be honest,' Fields said. 'I would say experiences, for sure. But also, I think my relationship with God. I don't play for anybody's approval. You guys are all going to have your opinion and I'm never going to take any of it personal. Like I said, it doesn't matter. Y'all can have an opinion, y'all could say this and that, but at the end of the day, our lives aren't going to change. 'If I say something to y'all right now, the same thing's going to happen. It doesn't really affect life, it doesn't affect the way we live. So, if you look at it from that perspective, the bigger perspective, no matter what anybody says, it doesn't matter at the end of the day. It has zero meaning to me, to anybody, and God controls everything that happens in this world.' While the 26-year-old Fields didn't detail the events that triggered his religious re-awakening, he acknowledged that the Bible has been even more impactful than any playbook. 'Yeah, I mean, me really getting closer to God, like I said, my relationship, me reading the Bible every day,' he said. 'And if I'm being real, there are some great lines and great wisdom that I didn't even know of. So I'm low-key addicted to getting in my Bible each and every day just because I learn something new every day and I'm able to apply it in my everyday life.
