Big 12 becomes final Power Four conference to start issuing player availability reports

The Big 12 will release player availability reports for football and men's and women's basketball before all conference games, the conference announced Wednesday.
Beginning this season, Big 12 football teams will submit daily injury and player availability reports starting three days before each conference game. Players will be designated as available, probable, questionable, doubtful or out.
Men's and women's basketball teams will submit reports the night before conference games, listing players as either available, game-time decision or out. Final reports are due 90 minutes before the start of each game.
The other Power Four conferences already issue availability reports. The Big Ten introduced the reports for football and men's and women's basketball in 2023. The Southeastern Conference followed suit in 2024, and the Atlantic Coast Conference began issuing the reports in July, including baseball on the list of participating sports.
The moves by the conferences are intended in part to curtail harassment of athletes by bettors seeking information about injuries or availability.
The Big 12 will release reports on the conference website.

Jim Harbaugh on NCAA punishment: "I'm done engaging"

The NFL and the Chargers officially had no comment on the NCAA's 10-year 'show cause' order on head coach Jim Harbaugh when both parties were reached on Friday. Harbaugh himself reflected that same sentiment during his press conference after Saturday's preseason matchup with the Rams. 'Like I told you last year, I'm not engaging,' Harbaugh said, via Khris Rhim of ESPN. 'I'm done engaging.' Instead of implementing a two-year postseason ban on Michigan, the NCAA elected to impose financial penalties and recruiting limitations as part of the final punishment issued in connection with the Connor Stalions advance scouting scandal. Harbaugh and the Wolverines won the CFP National Championship to cap the 2023 season, after which he left the program to become the Chargers head coach.

Despite different rooting interests, Steelers fans excited for football ahead of preseason home opener

Steelers fans had a fun day on the North Shore tailgating before heading in for Saturday night's tune-up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Saturday's contest was the only home preseason game of the 2025 season, but Max Kilgore's Acrisure Stadium debut still meant the world. "He was ready to put the T.J. [Watt] jersey on at about 7 o'clock this morning," Dan, Max's dad, said. Between the cornhole and the grilling, another crew was ready to support the Steelers, too. It's because of Max Hurleman, a rookie running back for Pittsburgh. "The guy who did the backflip last week after he scored the touchdown? That's my kid," Max's mother, Lisa, said. Her son is an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. "We're all here to celebrate his opportunity here with the Steelers," Jason, Max's father, said. Max's family and friends made the trip from Berks County, Pennsylvania. Before his final year at Notre Dame, he went to Colgate and played football there. Some of his friends from that school traveled to Pittsburgh on Saturday as well. As they celebrated with food and fun, they couldn't be prouder. "He's just doing his thing, and it's been very, very surreal," Lisa said. "Surreal" was echoed all over the North Shore on Saturday between family, friends, father, and son. The wins and losses may not count, but it's the memories that do. "I hope he goes to bed happy and had one of his favorite days ever," Kilgore said, referring to his son. The Steelers play their final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Aug. 21 on KDKA-TV. Just 22 days remain until the season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 7.
