Rio Rancho Police holding car design contest
RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Rio Rancho Police Department is holding a contest for the design of a new police car.
'Nobody wants to see the bosque destroyed': Neighbors voice concerns over Los Lunas project
Participants in the contest must be a Rio Rancho resident, enrolled in a school, under 18-years-old or a senior in high school. The design must include 'Rio Rancho Police serving since 1981 RRPD badge, American Flag and a cluster of three stars representing the three fallen officers or their call signs 103, 107, 163.
Anyone interested in participating can submit a design to Officer Daisy Gomez at dagomez@rrnm.gov or dropped off at the Rio Rancho Police Department. Submissions must be made by March 31, 2025.

Bus passenger shot and killed in Taos County
TAOS COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A passenger was killed when two individuals shot at a bus in Taos County Monday afternoon, according to the North Central Regional Transit District. The NCRTD said the shooting happened while the Blue Bus, which serviced Chili Line route 340, was stopped at the Rancho de Taos Post Office bus stop near the intersection of State Road 68 and San Francisco Street. Los Angeles Rioters Trash, Burn Robotaxis
Read the full story on The Auto Wire In case you haven't heard, there's been quite a bit of rioting in Los Angeles and Waymo robotaxis have become targets. This isn't the first time we've seen the driverless cars stopped and trashed by angry mobs, although in the past we've only seen it happen with maybe one or this seems to be at least several of the Jaguar I-PACEs bristling with pricey sensors. Now all of that is destroyed to make a political point. A videographer caught how at least one of the robotaxis was set on fire. One of the rioters put an American flag on the center console, then lit it on fire, we assume to let everyone know how much he hates the United States, taking out the vehicle with it. We can't confirm if that's true or if the vehicles just happened to be in the area of the rioting. What we do know is autonomous cars are often attacked and destroyed in riots. Destroying them because you're not getting your way seems like toddler behavior to us. People are asking why the police aren't stopping this. Well, the Los Angeles Police Department already put out a statement about the riots, saying they 'remained peaceful.' We guess if you ignore the problem, you don't have to solve it. So that's where the police are while Waymo loses who knows who many robotaxis, along with all the other damage done to Los Angeles. Estimates are that on top of the $72,000 MSRP there's about $130,000 to $150,000 in equipment added to the electric cars. Those are estimates, so the amount could be significantly higher, but we would be shocked if it were lower. In other words, this is costing Waymo or the insurance company covering the robotaxis. VIDEO: Santa Fe man arrested after ‘brandishing' gun at gas station
SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – We're getting new video of an arrest at a gas station in Santa Fe over the weekend, where police say a man confronted someone with a gun. Police connected 40-year-old Jose Nava with a handgun found inside a Speedway, and they believe it was the same weapon used to threaten a person earlier that day. 'Mr. Nava, let me see your hands. Hands up, turn around,' said a Santa Fe Police officer. Video shows the moment inside a Santa Fe gas station when officers put Jose Nava in handcuffs. Earlier in the day, Saturday, Santa Fe police responded to a report of a man threatening someone with a gun at the Speedway on Siler Road and Agua Fria Street. The victim told police a white truck and a blue Dodge pulled up to the gas station. That's when they say the man in the white truck got out and started threatening the victim while holding a pipe. Santa Fe college in jeopardy of losing federal funding Police said the victim raised his hands and told the man he didn't want any problems. Then the man in the blue Dodge, who police believe was Jose Nava, pulled out a handgun and pointed it towards the victim. When the victim asked what Nava wanted him to do, he responded by telling the driver to get in their car and get out of there. The victim complied, got in his car, and left. He gave police the license plate of the blue truck, and also said there was a female passenger in the truck, too. But when police go to arrest Nava, he says, 'That guy that pulled a gun out here, bro.' 'So we're here to talk to you about that, but you also have a warrant out for your arrest, okay?' a Santa Fe officer told Nava. After the arrest, police executed a search warrant at the Speedway. The crime scene unit showed up to help find the brandished gun. Santa Fe businesses' frustrations grow as road project continues Along with a key part of the team, a police service dog. Within minutes, the police K-9 points out a potential location of the gun to his handler. Video later shows police pull out the weapon from a box of chips. 'My dog was right,' said the K-9 handler. Nava was arrested and booked into the Santa Fe adult detention center for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. 'Keep your hands up, don't move,' said one officer. Nava was also booked on an active arrest warrant for failure to appear in a domestic violence-related case. Santa Fe police said they found two handguns and a shotgun in Nava's truck.
