The Jaguar Supersport, '65 Ford Thunderbird and '73 Alfa Romeo are taken by other clients today, so Dug – an eight-year-old golden retriever – is being chauffeured to West Hollywood's Sunset Strip in a Cadillac stretch limo for his spa treatments.
He is headed to Collar & Comb, where he will get a blueberry facial and exfoliating mud mask from the same professionals who groom the mutts of Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Wahlberg and Dakota Johnson.
Wellness for dogs is a niche industry that mirrors the spectrum of wellness treatments for humans. As with humans, it swings from the relaxing and rejuvenating to the dubious.
Vet-affiliated treatments include acupuncture, hydrotherapy and chiropractic care. Nutrition includes raw and organic food, supplements, and Western and Chinese herbal remedies.
On the pampering end, dog spas and private practitioners offer massage, reiki meditation, inflammation-fighting red-light therapy, and skin and nail treatments, such as deluxe 'pawdicures'.

Why is humid heat so hard to beat? Here's the science behind hot, wet weather

Extreme heat makes it especially hard for your body to cool down, so you need to be extra careful if you exercise or play sports when temperatures are high. Your brain tries to keep your body within a degree or two of 37 degrees Celsius, and it does so in part by producing sweat (see graphic). Sweat cannot do its job when your body is creating a lot of heat or it is too hot and humid to cool down. This can cause you to be dehydrated or even get a heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion or heatstroke. According to Bharat Venkat, an associate professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the director of the UCLA Heat Lab, heat can affect the entire body, including our hearts and lungs. The higher the temperature, the harder it is for the body to stay cool. Humidity, the amount of water vapour in the air, plays a big role too. High humidity makes it feel hotter than the actual temperature because it makes sweating less effective. There is so much water in the air already that the air cannot take up the water in your sweat. If you want to exercise in the heat, here are some tips to stay safe, according to the United States' Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. Time your exercise and outdoor activities for the coolest parts of the day. Try to exercise in the shade as much as possible. Take frequent breaks. Drink lots of fluids, and limit drinks that are high in sugar. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink more. Exercise with someone so you can check on each other, or pair up with a teammate.

6 tips to help prevent gaming-related health problems like ‘gamer's thrombosis'

In video games, all players usually need to do to stay healthy is drink the occasional healing potion or perhaps grab a floating heart. Avoiding zombies and killer aliens helps, too. In real life, maintaining health while gaming is trickier. Luckily, it does not take a secret hack to stay well while playing, experts say – and some of their advice might even help you level up your game. Some aspects of gaming can even be good for you, says Dr Joanne Donoghue, director of clinical research at the New York Institute of Technology's College of Osteopathic Medicine, who has led several studies on professional gamers' health. Some action video games have been shown to improve reaction time and may help with multitasking, she says. And unlike gamers from earlier eras, modern players sitting with their headphones and microphones are ' live and interacting with a lot of people at one time . So there is a social component.' Excessive video game time can be associated with a lack of sleep and poor nutrition. Photo: TNS Dr Jason Nagata, an associate professor of paediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, has studied the effects of screen time, including video games, on children and adolescents. He says digital media is 'not inherently good or bad. There are some risks, but also some benefits.'
