Mumbai Indians Recruitment Plans Slammed In Big Take by Ex-India Star: "Crowning Jewel..."
"The Mumbai Indians figure out everyone before time. I am going to take four names, who they had, but they let them go. So could the overseas player management have been better? They had Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Tim David and Cameron Green, and all in one year. These four players were together with them in the squad, and now not even one is there," he said.
"The Mumbai Indians have a very rich legacy of spotting talent, but they would definitely want to change one thing. Just as they are with Indian talent, maybe they will have to exercise a bit more patience with their overseas recruits, especially the greenhorns they catch. You let them go as small stones, but they get carved over time, and then they become a crowning jewel in somebody's crown," Chopra added.
Chopra also picked Cameron Green to become the costliest buy in the IPL 2026 auctions.
"Cameron Green, I feel he could be the most expensive player in the auction. Since he has returned from injury, his batting form is already incredible. He is not yet ready to bowl, but will start bowling at some stage. He is batting in the top order at the moment because he is not bowling," Chopra said.

'He Goes Out': Ashwin Points Out T20 World Cup Winner's Exclusion From Asia Cup Squad
Last Updated: Ravichandran Ashwin has spoken about Shreyas Iyer's potential inclusion for the Asia Cup, hinting that Shivam Dube may not fit into the squad despite his T20I experience. Ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said that if the selection committee decides to bring in Shreyas Iyer into the scheme of things for the upcoming Asia Cup, then Shivam Dube doesn't find a place, even though he was part of India's T20 World Cup-winning squad last year. Ashwin feels that Dube, who has been a mainstay in India's T20I team for almost two years, doesn't fit in the scheme of things for the Asia Cup. Ashwin said that Iyer is the best candidate to bat at No. 3 in India's T20I XI, followed by Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav, who might alternate given the situation of the game. 'Shreyas at 3. Surya and Tilak can float. Surya and Tilak can change between 4 and 5. If you are bringing Shreyas Iyer on the scheme of things, then Shivam Dube doesn't have a place," Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel. 'He (Dube) doesn't have a place. He can be in a backup position. Which we can discuss. Because if Shreyas Iyer, Surya and Tilak form your top 5, then it is 6 and 7. 6 and 7 is a block," Ashwin said. Dube scored 357 runs in 14 games for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, but his strike rate of 132.22 was his lowest in four years. Since Sanju Samson is more or less confirmed as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, Ashwin said that the backup keeper's spot could go to Jitesh Sharma. 'We have sent Sanju up (the order). So, we will have to discuss who the backup keeper is. There are many candidates for backup keeper. Last time, Dhruv Jhurel was there. KL Rahul is there. Rishabh Pant, I am not sure if he has recovered," Ashwin said. 'But on one hand, the real person that I think is going to walk into this Indian team is Jitesh Sharma. As per his IPL and the way he batted and he can play the role of a finisher. If Jitesh Sharma is your backup keeper, then Shivam Dube goes out of the window," Ashwin added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. " Bilkul Nahi Khelna Chahiye": Ex-India Star Slams Asia Cup 2025 Match vs Pakistan
Asia Cup 2025 will kick-start from September 9 in the UAE with Afghanistan taking on Hong Kong in the opening match. This Asia Cup is going to be a controversial one as it will be the first time that India will face Pakistan, since the Pahalgam terror attack in April this year. Many reports were making rounds that the continental tournament will be cancelled due to the tensed situation between India and Pakistan. However, the ACC announced that the tournament will be played and both India and Pakistan were placed in the same group. Many former cricketers have opined that India should refuse to play against Pakistan, in order to respect the soldiers and people who lost their lives during the border tensions. Echoing that opinion, former India batter Kedar Jadhav also stated that the match against Pakistan should be cancelled. "I think the Indian team should not play at all. As far as India is concerned, I think that wherever India plays, it will always win, but this match should not be played at all," Jadhav told the media on Sunday. #WATCH | Pune: On India to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, Former Indian Cricketer and BJP leader Kedar Jadhav says, "I think the Indian team should not play at all. As far as India is concerned, I think that wherever India plays, it will always win, but this match should not… — ANI (@ANI) August 17, 2025 "Ye match bilkul nahi khelna chahiye, aur khelenge bhi nahi, ye main daave ke saath keh sakta hun. (This match should not be played and India won't even play it. I can guarantee this)," he added. The Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to be played on September 14 in Dubai. Earlier, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh also stated that Team India should avoid playing against Pakistan as it makes a mockery of the soldiers, who lost their lives. "They need to understand what is important and what is not. This is as simple as that. For me, the soldier who stands on the border, whose family often doesn't get to see him, who sometimes sacrifices his life and never returns home - their sacrifice is so immense for all of us. Compared to that, this is a very small thing, that we can't skip playing one cricket match. It's a very small matter," Harbhajan had said on Times of India. "Our government has the same stance, 'Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.' (blood and sweat cannot co-exist). It cannot be the case that there's fighting on the border, tensions between the two nations, and we go to play cricket. Until these big issues are resolved, cricket is a very small matter. The nation always comes first," he added.
