Drug dealer jailed after police found £3,800,000 of cocaine during traffic stop
Officers discovered the haul of Class-A drugs wrapped with 'King Pro' packaging during a traffic stop in Solihull, West Midlands.
Driver Conrad Byrd, 50, was arrested at the scene after being pulled over on Kenilworth Road on March 14.
Following searches of his vehicle, officers found over 25 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of approximately £3,800,000.
Further searches were carried out at his home address in Sidcup, Bexley, South East London, where further kilos of drugs were found along with cash.
Detectives found Byrd had conducted many trips between the West Midlands and London to transfer drugs for a gang.
He pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply Class A drugs over a three month period and was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court for 13.5 years.
In April, two members of a gang were ordered to pay back more than £300,000 each after smuggling Class A drugs inside a shipment of raspberry sorbet.
William Morritt, 69, and John Madden, 51, moved 39kg of cocaine and 18kg of heroin from Belgium to England in 2017.
Police discovered the haul amongst 26 pallets of frozen raspberry yoghurt sorbet at a frozen food warehouse in Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire.
It was later revealed the pair made over £4.7 million from the operation.
The seizure was the biggest of its kind in Nottinghamshire for many years, said police.
After an investigation, a number of suspects were charged in connection with the smuggling operation.
Five people went on to be convicted of offences, including Madden and Morritt. More Trending
In 2023, Madden, of Kirkby, Knowsley, Merseyside, was jailed for 21 years after admitting conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a Class A drug.
Morritt, from Ashbourne, Derbyshire, the gang's haulier, was jailed for 18 years after being found guilty of the same charge.
Earlier this month, on April 2, Morritt received a confiscation order demanding repayment of £367,301.91 at Leicester Crown Court.
The Proceeds of Crime hearing was told he had benefitted by £2,384,655.93 from his illegal actions.

Drug driver, 81, told police someone slipped cocaine into his birthday lemonade
An 81-year-old has been disqualified from driving after he was found behind the wheel under the influence of cocaine. Arthur Ball was more than three times the legal limit when he was tested driving home from his own birthday party on June 2. Police had pulled Ball over just after midnight in Warrington, and his car – a Motability Toyota Yaris – had a police marker on it as potentially being used by a drug dealer. Ball said he had not been drinking alcohol or taking drugs, but while his roadside breath test result was a 0, the result of his blood test led to him being arrested. The pensioner claimed a guest at his birthday must have slipped a wrap of cocaine into his lemonade during the party. His results showed Ball had 162micrograms of benzoylecgonine (BZE) per litre of blood in his system. BZE is a breakdown product of cocaine and the legal limit is 50mg. Ball appeared at Warrington magistrates court where he pleaded guilty to drug driving. He was fined £120, banned from driving for a year, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge. His lawyer Mark Lever said in mitigation: 'He had been out for his birthday, a late birthday celebration. He had not been drinking. He believed that what he had drunk had been contaminated by cocaine. He does not use cocaine. More Trending 'He cannot bring evidence of that so he accepts that he has committed the offence. 'He was pulled up by the police. Strangely, police have a marker on his car for a drug dealer. He is not a drug dealer. How it got there goodness knows. 'His driving was not impaired. He has not driven in an erratic manner. He would like to drive again but he accepts he is going to find it difficult over the next 12 months.' Figures released in 2023 suggested drug driving had become more common than drink driving, with an average of 80 drug drivers caught every day. Maroon 5 star's wife files for divorce after accusing him of abuse and sexting
The wife of former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden has filed for divorce from the musician, following an allegation that he physically attacked her when she confronted him about 'sexting with teenage girls'. Catherine Blair Bowman filed for divorce from Madden, 46, on Wednesday (August 13) after three months of marriage, according to TMZ. The fashion influencer listed 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split. The couple were together for four years prior to getting married in May and Bowman is reportedly requesting spousal support. It comes after she said she was 'terrified' of Madden in court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on July 30. The fashion influencer was seeking a restraining order, with a judge then granting a temporary restraining order, People reported at the time. In documents seen by the publication, Bowman described a series of events which unfolded on July 21, in which she said the bass player went 'insane' after she asked him about the alleged messages with the teenage girls. Bowman's filing stated she asked to see Madden's phone, which he refused, and when she grabbed it and ran out the house she claims he 'became enraged'. Bowman described her efforts to flee in her court filing. The documents said: 'He put both his arms around my body around my abdomen and arms to restrain me. He then slammed my body against the marble kitchen counter.' 'I managed to move around and escape him, got up, and ran out of the house to escape him,' Bowman said in the filing. She continued: 'He ran after me in his underwear and barefoot, caught up to me, shoved me against the gate, and then tried to grab me back to the house.' Bowman said that she 'managed to escape and ran to the street' but Madden 'found [her] twice in different locations, physically abusing me each time'. She included images from ring camera footage to support her claims. In the filing, Bowman said she has been living with a friend since the incident. She also told the court that Madden had apologised to her via text message and said he was planning to seek help for sex addiction. Madden played bass for Maroon 5 – whose hits include Moves Like Jagger and Payphone – for nearly 26 years, but left the band in 2020. Audi Johnson, Ahmad Ghiasi, and Nicholas Mitchell bundled their victim, who was six months pregnant, into a van outside her home in Enfield, north London, on May 10 of last year. Her hands were bound with cable ties and questioned her about her partner, with one threatening to 'kick the baby out your stomach' if she lied to them. They made a series of phone calls to her partner, threatening to cut off her fingers if he didn't carry out their demands for money and jewellery. The victim was left alone and managed to escape the van, despite being bound at the wrists and blindfolded, and fled to her mum's house in a taxi. Police tracked down the van that same night and the three kidnappers were identified using DNA evidence, fingerprints and mobile phone data. All three appeared at Kingston crown court today where: Audi Johnson, 35, of Cranberry Close, Northolt pleaded guilty to conspiracy to kidnap and was sentenced to five years and four months Ahmad Ghiasi, 26, of Fourth Avenue, Luton was sentenced to seven years for conspiracy to kidnap Nicholas Mitchell, 55, of Mannock Close, Barnet was sentenced to nine years for conspiracy to kidnap In a statement submitted to the court, the victim said she hasn't been able to return to her home since the kidnapping, spending the rest of her pregnancy sleeping on her sister's sofa. She said: 'The incident ruined my life. I will never be the same person again. I am having to start my life all over again. 'I will forever have fear and paranoia as part of my life now. I didn't deserve to be a victim of what happened to me. And to top it off, it was all made so much worse by being pregnant. 'This will always be something that will be part of my pregnancy, which is meant to be a happy experience, and will always be something that is a part of my daughter.' Johnson, Ghiasi and Mitchell were members of a London-based gang, who had been contracted to carry out the kidnapping. Detective Inspector Ari Yoganathan from the Metropolitan Police said: 'The victim was leaving her home to see her personal trainer on a morning that should have been like any other.
