Tiger King star Joe Exotic marries fellow inmate in prison
Joe Exotic has married fellow inmate Jorge Flores Maldonado in prison. The 62-year-old reality star - who is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence after being found guilty of a murder-for-hire plot against rival Carole Baskin - found love behind bars with Jorge Marquez and confirmed on Tuesday (22.04.25) that they have now tied the knot. He wrote on X: "Never been more proud of someone. Meet my husband Jorge Flores Maldonado." Joe previously shared his hopes that making their union official would give his partner a reason not to be deported back to his home country, and that he was ready to follow him to South America if need be. Joe told RadarOnline.com: "Whether it helps his immigration status or not, we love each other enough to get married. We even got tattooed matching wedding bands already on. "What it would do is, it would assure him, and it would show the court, that he has a little bit of financial stability to stay in America." It's gonna look better for his asylum case to be married. We're just hoping that the prison will allow us to get married and stay in the same prison." He told the outlet that if he can't get help from the government to "keep him here", then "I guess I'm going to Mexico." Announcing their engagement in October last year, Joe described his fiancé as "so amazing" and admitted he wished he had "met him long" before. Joe shared a photo of them together on his X account and wrote: "Meet Jorge Marquez he is 33. He is so amazing and is from Mexico. "Now, the quest of getting married in prison and getting him asylum or we be leaving America when we both get out. Either way, I wish I would have met him long ago." The former 'Tiger King' star then confirmed the engagement to Entertainment Weekly. He told them in a phone call from prison: "We filed our official papers for the marriage license from the prison yesterday, so we're just waiting for an approval. He has picked out December 12 as the date we're hoping to get this approved by." The former zoo keeper seemed hopeful at the time that this relationship will turn out better than his previous marriages to Dillon Passage, who he finalised his divorce from in January 2023, and Travis Maldonado, who died in 2017. He said: "We love each other very much, spend every minute of the day together. "I've been through some s*** in my days. "I buried two husbands, the third one ran off with 2.6 million bucks from Netflix and left my a** here, but Jorge is a very amazing young man."

Delighted Splinter Cell fans were shown a trio of clips from the upcoming animated Deathwatch series today at Annecy as Ubisoft execs gave them a peek into the making of the highly-anticipated Netflix adaptation. The audience at a packed Salle Pierre Lamy were shown three clips featuring the first appearance of protagonist Sam Fisher, voiced by Liev Schreiber, an epic fight scene and a car chase. One of Ubisoft's flagship franchises, the hugely popular game series follows Fisher, the highly trained agent of a fictional black-ops sub-division within the NSA, dubbed 'Third Echelon', as he overcomes his adversaries. Having first been announced in 2020, the Ubisoft series will air later this year on Netflix. Director Guillaume Dousse said he approached the immense task of helming an adaptation of one of the world's most beloved video games by melding Michael Mann and Japanese director-animator Satoshi Kon. Live action noir properties like Ghost in the Shell were also a major influence, he added. 'We took huge inspiration from live action,' he said. 'There is this element of melancholy to the mise en scène. We wanted it to be full of contrasts.' Dousse incorporated lengthier, fixed shots, a rarity for animation, as he cited the famous 17-minute scene in Steve McQueen's Hunger as an example of something he wanted to move towards. The creatives repeatedly stressed that the eight-episode show takes its time, going against the grain of super fast-paced narratives. The soundtrack was also hugely important, with Dousse citing inspirations like Ozark and Tokyo Vice. Another slightly more unlikely inspiration for the older central character was Tom Cruise in the Mission Impossible franchise, who has been making those movies for decades and has grown up with them. 'It was interesting to have this ageing character, not totally like the Tom Cruise version but more realistic, and more weathered by life,' said producer Hugo Revon. Notably, Schreiber is taking on voice duties from Michael Ironside. Ironside, who voiced Fisher in the games, has previously said he is too old to return for the show. Schreiber was 'important for the project' as he is known for live action and the show is aiming to attract a broad audience who simply enjoy a great narrative, Revon said. 'His voice comes to life,' he added of the Ray Donovan star. 'It is so natural.' The show brings the action to Europe and was described as a 'roadtrip around Europe' by Ubisoft development manager Carl Tamakloe. Fast forwarding to 2025 meant facing up to the realities of how war has changed since Splinter Cell first started out as a game. 'We were interested in hybrid warfare,' added Tamakloe. 'Fake news can destabilize a state. We wanted to be rooted in the idea that in 2025 you don't fight like you did in 2000.' Without giving too much away, Tamakloe revealed some of the show will be set around the fictional Cop 31 climate conference, drawing out themes of energy and power. The first Splinter Cell video game was released in 2002. A series of tie-in novels following Fisher on his missions as a black ops agent were published in the mid-2000s. The team were speaking on the first day of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in the south of France, which is being attended by all the big American studios. Protests against the use of artificial intelligence in animation are planned at this week's Annecy fest, Deadline understands. A slew of AI-related talks are set to take place over the next 72 hours at the festival's MIFA market and we are told that small groups of protestors are prepared to make their voices heard. The main fears revolve around layoffs as more and more animated processes become automated, while there are also copyright concerns. Last week, French outlet Écran Total reported that a coalition of unions, federations and international organizations from the animation, video game and other sectors are planning an open-air meeting close to the festival's Bonlieu hub in Annecy on Thursday: 'to draw attention to the destructive impact of generative artificial intelligence on the global animation industry.' The group plans to read out a statement, extracts of which were reported by Écran Total. 'It is an undeniable fact: the animated film industry has been suffering greatly for several years,' it reads, citing challenges such as 'massive layoffs, the offshoring of jobs, mergers, liquidations and receiverships that lead to the closure of studios and increasingly restricted budgets.' 'The rapid expansion of generative AI in animation is driven by the belief that it is a response to the crisis,' continues the statement, adding: 'Generative AI is not a tool, nor is it efficient or profitable. It is a biased, destructive, and expensive copycat machine to operate. (…) It endangers the creative and technical professions in each of the industries cited, which will ultimately lead not only to an inevitable loss of knowledge and talent lost forever, but also to the privatization of all artistic processes and of thought itself.' Signatories of the statement include America's The Animation Guild, Belgium's (Association gathering authors and creators of animation), French animation guild l'AGrAF and screenwriters orgs La Guilde and Le Syndicat des Scénaristes. Some 18,000 animation professionals and students are attending Annecy this year, and with AI expected to disrupt their futures, it is a major topic as the MIFA market gets underway Tuesday. 'It feels as though we're toast,' said one senior animation exec on the ground. 'People are talking about losing 50% of the workforce.' This isn't the first time AI concerns have hit Annecy. Last year, it was reported that audience members booed the screening of Chien Mechant's French music video Etoile Filante, which was made using generative AI software.
